CAUTION
Road accident cautions
If your vehicle is involved in an accident, observe the following precautions
to reduce the risk of death or serious injury:
Stop the vehicle in a safe place to prevent subsequent accidents, shift the
shift position to P, apply the parking brake, and turn the hybrid system off.

Do not touch the high voltage parts, cables and connectors.
If electric wires are exposed inside or outside your vehicle, an electric
shock may occur. Never touch exposed electric wires.
If a fluid leak occurs, do not touch the fluid as it may be strong alkaline
electrolyte from the hybrid battery (traction battery). If it comes into contact
with your skin or eyes, wash it off immediately with a large amount of water
or, if possible, boric acid solution. Seek immediate medical attention.
If a fire occurs in the hybrid vehicle, leave the vehicle as soon as possible.
Never use a fire extinguisher that is not meant for electric fires. Using even
a small amount of water may be dangerous.
If your vehicle needs to be towed, do so with the front wheels raised. If the
wheels connected to the electric motor (traction motor) are on the ground
when towing, the motor may continue to generate electricity. This may
cause an electricity leakage leading to a fire. (P. 575)
Carefully inspect the ground under the vehicle. If you find that liquid has
leaked onto the ground, the fuel system may have been damaged. Leave
the vehicle as soon as possible.

Except hybrid model (vehicles without a smart entry & start system):
The engine switch is in the “ACC” or “ON” position.
Except hybrid model (vehicles with a smart entry & start system):
The engine switch is in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode.
Hybrid model:
The power switch is in ACCESSORY or ON mode.
When the mirrors are fogged up
The outside rear view mirrors can be cleared using the mirror defoggers. Turn
on the rear window defogger to turn on the outside rear view mirror defog-
gers. (P. 398)
Using automatic mode in cold weather (if equipped)
When automatic mode is used in cold weather, the door mirror could freeze
up and automatic stowing and return may not be possible. In this event,
remove any ice and snow from the door mirror, then either operate the mirror
using manual mode or move the mirror by hand.
CAUTION
Important points while driving
Observe the following precautions while driving.
Failure to do so may result in loss of control of the vehicle and cause an
accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
Do not adjust the mirrors while driving.
Do not drive with the mirrors folded.
Both the driver and passenger side mirrors must be extended and properly
adjusted before driving.
When a mirror is moving
To avoid personal injury and mirror malfunction, be careful not to get your
hand caught by the moving mirror.
When the mirror defoggers are operating
Do not touch the rear view mirror surfaces, as they can become very hot
and burn you.

Weight limits
Check the allowable towing capacity, GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass),
MPAC (Maximum Permissible Axle Capacity), and permissible
drawbar load before towing. (P. 696)
Towing hitch/bracket
Toyota recommends the use of the Toyota hitch/bracket for your
vehicle. Other products of a suitable nature and comparable quality
may also be used.
To prevent an accident
The handling of the vehicle will feel different when towing a trailer.
Beware of the 3 most common causes of towing-related accidents:
driver error, excessive speed, and overloading.
Trailer towing (except hybrid model)
The strain of towing a trailer will have a negative impact on the
running performance, handling, fuel consumption and endur-
ance of your vehicle. Use the vehicle features in the correct
manner and operate the vehicle with care for safer driving and
optimal comfort. Damage and/or malfunctions that occur as a
result of towing performed for commercial purposes are not
covered by the Toyota warranty.
Contact any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professional for further information
about additional requirements such as towing kits, etc.

Exceeding this weight is danger-

When towing a trailer, use a fric-
tion coupler or friction stabilizer
(sway control device).
Permissible drawbar load
Allocate the trailer load so that
the drawbar load is greater than
25 kg (55.1 lb.) or 4% of the tow-
ing capacity. Do not let the draw-
bar load exceed the indicated
