OIL AND FILTER
INSPECTION
1. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY
Check the oil for deterioration, entry of water, discoloring or thin-
ning.
If the quality is visibly poor, replace the oil.
Oil grade:
API grade or SJ, Energy±Conserving or ILSAC multi-
grade engine oil is recommended. SAE 5W±30 is the
best choice for your vehicle, for good fuel economy,
and good starting in cold weather.
2. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL
After warming up the engine and then 5 minutes after the en-
gine stop, oil level should be between the ºLº and ºFº marks on
the dipstick.
If low. check for leakage and add oil up to the ºFº mark.
NOTICE:
Do not fill with engine oil above the ºFº mark.
3. REMOVE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, AND INSTALL OIL
PRESSURE GAUGE
(a) Remove the oil pressure switch.
(b) Install the oil pressure gauge.
4. ACTIVATE INSPECTION MODE AND WARM UP EN-
GINE (See page IN±10)
Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
5. CHECK OIL PRESSURE
Oil pressure:
At idle speed
29 kPa (0.3 kgf/cm
2, 4.3 psi) or more
At 2,250 rpm
150 ± 550 kPa (1.5 ± 5.6 kgf/cm
2, 22 ± 80 psi)
6. REMOVE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE AND REINSTALL
OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
(a) Remove the oil pressure gauge.

(c) Clean the spark plugs.
If the electrode has traces of wet carbon, allow it to dry and then
clean with a spark plug cleaner.
Air pressure: Below 588 kPa (6 kgf/cm
2, 85 psi)
Duration: 20 seconds or less
HINT:
If there are traces of oil, remove it with gasoline before using the
spark plug cleaner.
(d) Check the spark plug for thread damage and insulator
damage.
If abnormal, replace the spark plug.
Recommended spark plug:
DENSO madeSK16R11
NGK madeIFR5A11
(e) Check the electrode gap.
Electrode gap: 1.0 ± 1.1 mm (0.039 ± 0.043 in.)
Maximum electrode gap: 1.2 mm (0.047 in.)
If the electrode gap is greater than maximum, replace the spark
plug.
(f) Using a 16 mm (0.63 in.) plug wrench, install the spark
plugs.
Torque: 18 N´m (184 kgf´cm, 13 ft´lbf)
(g) Install the ignition coils (with igniter) (See page IG±7).
3. INSPECT CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR
(a) Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.
(b) Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between ter-
minals.
Resistance:
Cold1,630 ± 2,740 W
Hot2,065 ± 3,225 W
If the resistance is not as specified, replace the camshaft posi-
tion sensor.
(c) Connect the camshaft position sensor connector.
