INSPECTION
1. CHECK TORQUE SENSOR
(a) Check the torque sensor (see page PS-19).
2. CHECK POWER STEERING MOTOR
(a) Check the power steering motor (see page PS-22).
3. CHECK MOTOR ROTATION ANGLE SENSOR
(a) Check the motor rotation angle sensor (see page
PS-25).
REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH
ASSEMBLY
(a) Attach the 2 claws to install the ignition switch onto
the steering column bracket upper.
2. INSTALL KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID
(a) for Automatic Transaxle:
(1) Install the key interlock solenoid onto the
steering column bracket upper with the 2
screws.
3. INSTALL UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Attach the 2 claws to install the unlock warning
switch onto the steering column bracket upper.
HINT:

3. REGISTRATION OF ADDITIONAL KEY (PROCEDURE
"A")
HINT:
• A maximum of 5 master key codes and 3 sub-key
codes can be registered.
• Additional key code registration mode ends if each
step is not completed within the specified time.
• When proceeding to the next step while the timer is
running, the timer is reset and begins the countdown
for the next step.
• When the ignition key cylinder or the ignition key
cylinder set is replaced, remove the transmitter
module from the original master key. Then install this
transmitter module to a new key and use the new key
as the master key. If necessary, use this master key to
register other keys.
NOTICE:
When the ignition key cylinder has been replaced,
locking and unlocking doors are possible with the
new master key once the transmitter module from
the original master key has been transferred to it.
However, the new master key will not be able to lock
and unlock doors through the door key cylinder.
Keep the original master key. If the new master key's
transmitter module battery fails, the original master
key can be used to lock and unlock doors through
the door key cylinder.
(a) Additional key code registration
Condition:
At least one key code must be registered in the
transponder key ECU.

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
1. LIGHTING SYSTEM
(a) Illumination control system (Illuminated entry
system):
When the doors are unlocked by a key or
transmitter operation, or when a door is opened or
closed, the illuminated entry system turns on the
room light, map light, foot light and ignition key
cylinder light*1 or transponder key amplifier*2.
(1) The main body ECU receives the following
signals (A).
• Door courtesy switch signal
• Door detection switch signal
• Ignition switch signal
(2) The main body ECU controls the following signal
based on the signals listed in A.
• Illumination operation signal
(3) The main body ECU controls the on/off and
fade-in/fade-out operation of the following parts.
•Room light
• Map light
•Foot light
• Ignition key cylinder light*1 or transponder
key amplifier*2
HINT:
*1: w/o Engine immobiliser system
*2: w/ Engine immobiliser system
(b) Battery saver system:
When the ignition switch is turned off and any of the
doors is open continuously for 20 minutes, the main
body ECU turns the illumination operation signal off.
As a result, the room light, map light, foot light and
ignition key cylinder lights*1 or transponder key
amplifier*2 turn off.
HINT:
*1: w/o Engine immobiliser system
*2: w/ Engine immobiliser system
(1) The main body ECU receives the following
signals (B).
• Door courtesy switch signal
• Ignition switch signal
(2) The main body ECU controls the following signal
based on the signals listed in B (C).
• Illumination operation signal
(3) The main body ECU controls the illumination
period of the following parts based on the
signals listed in C.

(b) Check that the lights come on when unlocking any
of the doors that are closed and locked with the
ignition switch OFF. Then check that the lights fade
out under the following conditions:
(1) Leave the doors unlocked for 15 seconds.
(2) Turn the ignition switch ACC or ON.
(3) Lock all the doors.
(c) Check that the lights stay on for at least 15 seconds
after opening any of the doors before fading out.
Then check that the lights fade out 15 seconds after
closing all the doors.
(d) Check that the lights stay lit after turning the ignition
switch OFF with all the doors closed and the ignition
switch in the ACC or ON position. Then check that
the lights fade out under the following conditions:
(1) Leave the doors unlocked for 15 seconds.
(2) Turn the ignition switch ACC or ON.
(3) Lock all the doors.
(e) Check that the lights stay on for at least 15 seconds
after opening any of the doors. Then check that the
lights fade out 15 seconds after closing all the
doors.
(f) Check that the lights come on when opening any of
the doors and fade out when closing and locking all
the doors or turning the ignition switch to the ACC or
ON position.
2. FOOT LIGHT OPERATION CHECK
(a) Check that the lights come on when unlocking any
of the doors that are closed and locked with the
ignition switch OFF. Then check that the lights fade
out under the following conditions:
(1) Leave the doors unlocked for 15 seconds.
(2) Lock all the closed doors and turn the ignition
switch OFF.
(b) Check that the lights stay on for at least 15 seconds
under the following conditions before going off.
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and
move the shift lever to the P position.
(2) Open any of the doors.
(c) Check that the lights dim before going off when
turning the ignition switch ON and shifting the shift
lever into any position other than P.

OPERATION CHECK
1. CHECK ELECTRICAL DOOR LOCK OPERATION
(a) Check the basic function.
(1) Check that all doors lock when the door control
switch (for manual operation) is turned to LOCK
and all doors unlock when turned to UNLOCK.
(2) Check that all doors lock when the driver side
door lock key cylinder is turned to LOCK using
the key.
(3) Check that only the driver side door unlocks
when the driver side door lock key cylinder is
turned to UNLOCK and all doors unlock when
turned to UNLOCK once again within 3 seconds
using the key (2-step unlocking function).
(b) Check the key lock-in prevention.
NOTICE:
In order to prevent the key from being actually
locked-in, the inspection should be made with
the driver side door window open.
(1) Have the key inserted into the ignition key
cylinder.
(2) With the driver side door open, check that all
doors unlock immediately after the door lock
knob for the driver side door is turned to LOCK.
(3) With the driver side door open, check that all
doors unlock immediately after the door control
switch (for manual operation) is turned to LOCK.
(4) With the driver side door open, turn the driver
side door lock knob to LOCK and hold it for 2
seconds or more, and then close the driver side
door. Then check that all doors unlock.
