The head-up display may seem dark or
hard to see when v iewed through sun- glasses, especiall y polarized sun-
glasses. Adjust t he brightness of the
head-up display or remove your sun - glasses.

ness of the head-up display image does not interfere with safe driving.
Incorrect adjustment of the image’s
position or bright ness may obstruct the driver’s view and lead to an

head-up display while driving as you may fail to see pedestrians,
objects on the roa d, etc. ahead of

■Enabling/disabling of the head-up
display
If the head-up display is disabled, it will remain disabled when the power switch
is turned off then back to ON.

The brightness of t he head-up display
can be adjusted on screen of the
multi-information display. Also, it is auto -
matically adjusted according to the
ambient brightness.

■Caution for changing settings of the head-up display
If the hybrid system i s operating when
changing the display settings, ensure that the vehicle is parked in a place
with adequate ventilat ion. In a closed
area such as a garage, exhaust gases including harmful carbon mon -
oxide (CO) may collect and enter the
vehicle. This may lead to death or a serious health hazard.
NOTICE
■When changing the settings of
the head-up display
To prevent 12-volt battery discharge,
ensure that the hyb rid system is oper-
ating while changing the settings of the head-up display.

●When the ambient temperature is
approximately 3°C (37°F) or lower,
will flash for approximately 10
seconds and the out side temperature
display will turn off.
●In the following situ ations, the correct
outside temperature may not be dis - played, or the display may take longer
than normal to change:
• When stopped (including when using “My Room Mode”), o r driving at low
speeds (less than 2 0 km/h [12 mph])
• When the outside temperature has changed suddenly (at the
entrance/exit of a garage, tunnel, etc.)
●When “--” or “E” is displayed, the sys -
tem may be malfunctioning.
Take your vehicle to any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota authorized
repairer, or any reliable repairer.

tery) remains with out charging while
the shift lever is in N, or the remaining charge amount drops below a certain
level. If the remaining charge amount
drops further, the buzzer sounds con - tinuously.
●When a warning message is shown
on the multi-information display and the buzzer sounds, follow the instruc -
tions displayed on the screen to per -
form troubleshooting.
■Color of the gasoline engine on the audio system screen
It will be blue when the engine is warm -

■Rear seat reminder function
●In order to remind you not to forget
luggage, etc. in the rear seat, when
the power switch i s turned to OFF after any of the fo llowing conditions
are met, a buzzer will sound and a
message will be displayed on the multi-information di splay for approxi-
mately 6 seconds.
• The hybrid system is started within 10 minutes after opening and closing a
rear door.
• A rear door has been opened and closed after the hy brid system was
started.
However, if a rear door is opened and
then closed within approximately 2 sec-
onds, the rear seat reminder function
may not operate.
●The rear seat reminder function deter - mines that luggage, etc. has been
placed in a rear seat based on open -
ing and closing of a rear door. There - fore, depending on t he situation, the
rear seat reminder function may not
operate and you may still forget lug - gage, etc. in the rear seat, or it may
operate unnecessarily.
●The rear seat reminder function can
be enabled/disabled. ( →P.629)
■Customization
Settings (e.g. unlocking function using a key) can be changed.

WARNING
■To prevent an accident
Observe the following precautions while driving the vehicle.
Failure to do so may result in a door
opening and an occupant could be thrown out of the v ehicle, resulting in
death or serious injury.
●Ensure that all doo rs are properly closed.
●Do not pull the in side handle of the doors while driving.
Be especially care ful for the front
doors, as the doors may be opened even if the inside lock buttons are in
locked position.
●Set the rear door child-protector
locks when childre n are seated in
the rear seats.
■When opening or closing a door
Check the surroundings of the vehicle such as whether the vehicle is on an
incline, whether there is enough
space for a door to open and whether a strong wind is blowing. When open -
ing or closing the door, hold the door
handle tightly to prepare for any unpredictable movement.

The front doors can be opened by pull-
ing the inside handle even if the lock
buttons are in the lock position.
■Locking the front doors from the
outside without a key
1 Move the inside lock button to the
lock position.
2 Close the door while pulling the door handle.
The door cannot be locked if the power
switch is in ACC or ON, or the electronic
key is left insi de the vehicle.
Depending on the position of the elec -
tronic key, the key m ay not be detected
correctly and the door may be locked.
■Open door warning buzzer
If the vehicle speed r eaches 5 km/h (3
mph), a buzzer sounds to indicate that
the door(s) or the hood is not fully closed.
The open door(s) or hood is displayed
on the multi-information display.
■When all the doors are locked with
the entry functi on or wireless remote control

Operate the power window or pan - oramic moon roof a fter checking to

of any passenger having any of their
body parts caught in the side window or panoramic moon r oof. Also, do not
allow children to o perate the wireless
remote control or me chanical key. It is possible for chil dren and other pas-
sengers to get caugh t in the side win-
dow or panoramic moon roof.

Back door
The back door can be
locked/unlocked and
opened/closed by the follow -
ing procedures.
Charging port lid and charging
connector will also be locked and
unlocked. ( →P.121)
WARNING
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may result in death or
serious injury.
■Before driving
●Make sure that the back door is fully closed.
If the back door is not fully closed, it
may open unexpectedly while driv - ing and hit near-by objects or lug -
gage in the luggage compartment
may be thrown out, causing an accident.
●Do not allow children to play in the luggage compartment.
If a child is accidentally locked in
the luggage compartment, they could get heat exhaustion or other
injuries.
●Do not allow a child to open or
close the back door.
Doing so may cause the back door to operate unexpectedly, or cause
the child’s hands, head, or neck to
be caught by the closing back door.
■Important points while driving
●Keep the back door closed while driving.
If the back door is left open, it may
hit near-by objects or luggage in the luggage compartment may be
thrown out, causing an accident.
●Never let anyone sit in the luggage compartment.
In the event of sudden braking, sud -
den swerving or a collision, they are susceptible to death or serious
injury.
■Back door handles
Do not hang any ob ject to the back
door handles. If any object is hung, the back door
may suddenly shut, causing parts of
the body to be caught, resulting in death or serious injury.
■Operating the back door
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause parts of
the body to be caught, resulting in death or serious injury.
●Remove any heavy loads, such as
snow and ice, from the back door before opening it. Failure to do so
may cause the back door to sud -
denly shut again af ter it is opened.
●When opening or closing the back
door, thoroughly check to make sure the surrounding area is safe.
●If anyone is in the vicinity, make sure they are safe and let them
know that the back door is about to
open or close.
●Use caution when opening or clos -
ing the back door in windy weather as it may move abr uptly in strong
wind.

The back door may suddenly shut if
it is not opened fully . It is more diffi- cult to open or clo se the back door
on an incline than on a level sur -
face, so beware of the back door unexpectedly opening or closing by
itself. Make sure that the back door
is fully open and secure before
using the luggage compartment.
●Vehicles with power back door: The
back door may suddenly shut if it is not opened fully, while on a steep
incline. Make sure that the back
door is secured before using the luggage compartment.
●When closing the back door, take extra care to prevent your fingers,
etc. from being caught.
●Vehicles without power back door:
When closing the back door, make
sure to press it lig htly on its outer surface. If the back door handle is
used to fully close the back door, it
may result in hands or arms being caught.
●Vehicles without power back door: Do not pull on the back door
damper stay ( →P.213) to close the
back door, and do not hang on the back door damper stay.
Doing so may cause hands to be
caught or the back door damper stay to break, caus ing an accident.
●Vehicles with power back door: Do not pull on the back door spindle
( →P.221) to close the back door,
and do not hang o n the back door spindle.
Doing so may cause hands to be
caught or the back door spindle to break, causing an accident.
●Vehicles without power back door: If a bicycle carrier or similar heavy
object is attached to the back door,
it may suddenly shut again after being opened, causing someone’s
hands, head or neck to be caught
and injured. W hen installing an accessory part to the back door,
using a genuine Toyota part is rec -
ommended.

Unlock the back door before operating.
Pressing the switch while the power
back door is opening/closing stops the

The back door is equipped with
damper stays that hold the back door in place.
Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause damage to the back door damper stay, result -
ing in malfunction.
●Do not attach any foreign objects, such as stickers, plastic sheets, or
adhesives to the damper stay rod.
●Do not touch the damper stay rod
with gloves or other fabric items.
●Do not attach any accessories
other than genuine Toyota parts to
the back door.
●Do not place your hand on the
damper stay or app ly lateral forces to it.

■Back door closer
●In the event that the back door is
left slightly open, the back door closer will automatically close it to
the fully closed po sition. It takes
several seconds before the back door closer begins to operate. Be
careful not to catch fingers or any -
thing else in the back door, as this
may cause bone frac tures or other serious injuries.
●Use caution when using the back door closer as it still operates when
the power back d oor system is can-
celed.
■Power back door
Observe the following precautions when operating the power back door.
Failure to do so m ay cause death or
serious injury.
●Check the safety of the surrounding
area to make sur e there are no
obstacles or anything that could cause any of your belongings to get
caught.
●If anyone is in the vicinity, make
sure they are safe and let them
know that the back door is about to open or close.
●If the power back door system is turned off while the back door is
operating automatically, the auto -
matic operation is stopped. The back door then has to be operated
manually. Take extra care when on
an incline, as the back door may open or close unexpectedly.
