Rear window and outside rear view mirror defoggers
: If equipped
■The defoggers can be operated when
Vehicles without a smart key system
The engine switch is in the “ON” position.
Vehicles with a smart key system
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■ The outside rear view mirr or defoggers (if equipped)
Turning the rear window defogger on will turn the outside rear view mirror
defoggers on.
CAUTION
■ When the outside rear view mirr or defoggers are on (if equipped)
Do not touch the outside surface of the rear view mirrors, as they can
become very hot and burn you.
Defoggers are used to defog the rear window, and to remove rain-
drops, dew and frost from the outsid e rear view mirrors (if equipped).
On/off
The defoggers will automati-
cally turn off after approxi-
mately 15 minutes.

■Illuminated entry system
Vehicles without a smart key system
The lights automatically turn on/off according to the engine switch position,
whether the doors are locked/unlocked, and whether the doors are open/
closed.
Vehicles with a smart key system
The lights automatically turn on/off according to “ENGINE START STOP”
switch mode, the presence of the electronic key, whether the doors are
locked/unlocked, and whether the doors are open/closed.
■ To prevent battery discharge
If the interior lights remain on when the door is not fully closed and the inte-
rior light switch is in door position, the lights will go off automatically after 20
minutes.
■ Customization that can be configured at Scion dealer
Settings (e.g. The time elapsed before lights turn off) can be changed. 

Glove boxThe glove box can be opened by pulling the lever and can be locked
and unlocked by using the master key (vehicles without a smart key
system) or the mechanical key (veh icles with a smart key system).

■Caution while driving
Keep the glove box closed. In the event of sudden braking or sudden swerv-
ing, an accident may occur due to an occupant being struck by the open

Power outlet
■The power outlet can be used when

The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON
mode.
NOTICE
■To avoid damaging the power outlet
Close the power outlet lid when the power outlet is not in use. 
Foreign objects or liquids that enter the power outlet may cause a short cir-
cuit.
■ To prevent blown fuse
Do not use an accessory that uses more than 12 V 10 A.
■ To prevent battery discharge
Do not use the power outlet longer than necessary when the engine is not\

running.
The power outlet can be used for 12 V accessories that run on less
than 10 A.

Seat heaters
■The seat heaters can be used when
Vehicles without a smart key system
The engine switch is in the “ON” position.
Vehicles with a smart key system
The “ENGINE START STOP” switch is in IGNITION ON mode.
■ When not in use
Turn the seat heater off by returning the switch to its level position. The indi-
cator light turns off.

■
Automatic car washes
● Fold the mirrors and remove the antenna before washing the vehicle.
Start washing from the front of the vehicle. Make sure to re-install the
antenna and extend the mirrors before driving.
● Brushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface
and harm your vehicle’s paint.
■ High pressure car washes
● Do not allow the nozzles of the car wash to come within close proximity
of the windows.
● Before using the car wash, check that the fuel filler door on your vehicle
is closed properly.
■ Aluminum wheels
● Remove any dirt immediately by using a neutral detergent. Do not use
hard brushes or abrasive cleaners. Do not use strong or harsh chemical
cleaners. 
Use the same mild detergent and wax as used on the paint.
● Do not use detergent on the wheels when they are hot, for example after
driving for long distance in the hot weather.
● Wash detergent from the wheels immediately after use.
■ Bumpers and side moldings
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
■ Notes for vehicles with a smar t key system (if equipped)
● If the door handle becomes wet while the electronic key is within the
effective range, the door may lock and unlock repeatedly. Place the key
in a position 6 ft. (2 m) or more separate from the vehicle while the vehi-
cle is being washed. (Take care to ensure that the key is not stolen.)
● If the electronic key is inside the vehicle and a door handle becomes wet
during a car wash, a buzzer will sound outside the vehicle. To turn off the
alarm, lock all the doors.

■Reset the maintenance data (U.S.A. only)
After the required maintenance is performed according to the maintenance
schedule, please reset the maintenance data.
To reset the data, follow the procedures described below:
Switch the display to the trip meter A when the engine is running.

Vehicles without a smart key system 
Turn the engine switch off. 
Vehicles with a smart key system 
Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off.
Vehicles without a smart key system 
While pressing the odometer/trip meter display change button
( P. 188), turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (do not start
the engine because reset mode will be canceled). Continue to
press and hold the button until the trip meter displays “000000”. 
Vehicles with a smart key system 
While pressing the odometer/trip meter display change button
( P. 188), turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to the IGNI-
TION ON mode (do not start the engine because otherwise the
reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the but-
ton until the trip meter displays “000000”.
■ Allow inspection and repairs to be performed by a Scion dealer
● Scion technicians are well-trained specialists and are kept up to date with
the latest service information. They are well informed about the opera-
tions of all systems on your vehicle.
● Keep a copy of the repair order. It proves that the maintenance that has
been performed is under warranty coverage. If any problem should arise
while your vehicle is under warranty, y our Scion dealer will promptly take
care of it.

When working near the electric c ooling fans or radiator grille
Vehicles without a smart key system
Be sure the engine switch is off. With the engine switch in the “ON” position,
the electric cooling fans may automatically start to run if the air conditioning
is on and/or the coolant temperature is high. ( P. 301)
Vehicles with a smart key system
Be sure the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is off. With the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch in IGNITION ON mode, the electric cooling fans may automat\
-
ically start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or the coolant temperature
is high. ( P. 301)
■ Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from
getting your eyes.
NOTICE
■If you remove the air cleaner filter
Driving with the air cleaner filter removed may cause excessive engine wear
due to dirt in the air. Also, a backfire could cause a fire in the engine com-
partment.
