The cooling syste m for the passenger compart
ment o nl y functions when the engin e is running
and the fan is switched on.
The air conditioner is most efficient when the w indows an d the power sunroof are closed. However,
if th e vehicle is sta ti o nary and the passenger compartment becomes very hot due to sunlight, opening the w indows briefly may speed up the cooling proce ss.

The vehicl e's diesel engine was designed sole ly
for use with ULSD fuel. For this reason , nev er use gaso line, heating oil, or other unsuitable fuels. The properties of these fuels may cause serious damage to the fuel system and to the engin e. Such damage will not be covered by any Volkswagen
Limited Warrant y.
The vehicle was designed to run on diesel with blend leve ls up to and including 5% methyl ester biodi esel. Never use methyl ester biodiesel in
blend lev els hi gher than 5% (5% methyl est er
blends are sometime s designated or labeled as
B5). The propertie s of methyl ester biodiesel
blend s in leve ls greater than 5% may cause riou s damage to the fuel injection system and to the engine. This co uld lead to expensive repairs that will not b e cove red any Volkswagen Limited

Plenum chamber
The pl enum ch am ber is loca te d in the engin e compartment betwee n wind shi eld and engin e, under a pe rforated cover. Outs ide air is take n into
the vehicl e int erior fro m the pl enum chambe r via the heating and air cond itioni ng sys tem.
Regularly remove leaves and other loose object s
from the plenum chamber cover by hand or with a
vacuum cleaner.
