The
coming home function illuminates the
area around the vehicle when the ignition is
switched off and the driver's door is opened.
The length of time the lights remain on can be
set in the menu display
(Lights> Exterior
lights> coming home) .
The leaving home function illuminates the
area around the vehicle when unlocking it.
.&_ WARNING
- Never use daytime running lights to see
where you are going. They are not bright enough and will not let you see far
enough ahead for safety, especially at dusk or when it is dark. Be aware of
changes in outside light conditions when
you are driving and respond by switching
on your low beams.
- Automatic head- and taillight control is
only intended to assist the driver. This
feature does not relieve the driver of his
responsibility to check the headlights
and to turn them on manually according
to the current light and visibility condi­
tions. For example, fog and rain cannot be detected by the light sensors. Conse­
quently, always switch the headlights on
under these weather conditions and
when driving in the dark.
- Crashes can happen when you cannot see
the road ahead and when you cannot be
seen by other motorists.
-Always turn on the headlights so that you can see ahead and so that others can see your car from the back.
(D Tips
- Always observe the specific local regula­
tions for your area when to use your
lights .
- Turn on low beams as evening ap­
proaches or in conditions of poor visibili­
ty.
- Do not attach stickers to the windshield
in front of the sensors as this can disable the automatic head- and
taillight control
and the automatic glare-dimming of the
rearview mirror(s)*.
- If you
remove the ignition from the igni­
tion lock while the headlights are still
on, a buzzer will sound as long as the
driver's door is open to remind you to
turn off the lights.
- In the AUTO mode, the low beams are
turned off when the ignition is turned
off. The remaining lights are turned off
when the key is taken out of the ignition .
- In cool or damp weather conditions the
headlights may fog
over temporarily on
the inside.
- The critical factor is the temperature
difference between the interior and the
exterior of the headlight lens.
- With the main beams switched on, the
light-emitting area will be free of con­
densation after a short time, however
the edges of the glass may still be fog­
ged.
- This physical phenomenon has no ef­
fect on the life of your vehicle's light­
ing system.
Instrument panel illumination
The illumination of the instruments, displays
and the center console can be adjusted.

You regulate the brightness of the instru­

A phototransistor integrated into the instru­
ment cluster controls the illumination of the
needles in it. When the lights are switched on,

Using the climate controls economically
Economical use of the climate controls helps
to save fuel.
When climate control is wor king in cool ing
mode, engine performance is reduced and
fuel consumption is affected. To keep the time
the air conditioning is on as short as possible,
you shou ld do the fo llow ing:
.,. If you would like to save f uel, sw itch the air
condition ing off.
... If you open the windows whi le driving,
switch the air conditioning off.
... If the vehicle is extremely hot due to the
heat of the sun, briefly open doors and win­
dows .
@ For the sake of the environment
When you save fuel, you reduce emissions
from the vehicle.
Rear window defogger
The rear window defogger clears the rear win­
dow of condensation .
... Press the~ button c::> page 72, fig. 82 to
turn the rear window defogger on and off.
The rear window defogger works only when
the eng ine is running. The indicator light in
the butto n illum inates when the rear window
defogger is turned on .
The rear window defogger is switched off au­
tomatically after approx. 10 minutes.
@ For the sake of the environment
As soon as the rear window is clear, yo u
should switch the rear window defogger
off. The reduced power consumption has a
beneficial effect on fuel consumption.
Heated seats
The seat cushion and the seotbock of the
front seats con be heated electrically.
... Press the heated seats button I- ., +I
c::> page 72, fig . 82 to set the level of heating
desired.
The range of contro ls goes from 1 to 3. The
heat setting selected is shown by LEDs above
the button.
(D Note
To avoid damage to the heating elements
in the seats, do not kneel on the seats or
place heavy loads on a small area of the
seat .

Cruise control
Introduction
The cruise control system keeps the speed
constant .
The cruise control system makes it possible to
drive at a constant speed over 20 mph (US
model) or 30 km/h (Canadian model). This is
true only to the extent that engine power or
engine braking effect allow . Using the system
takes the strain off the "gas peda l foot" -es­
pec ial ly on long tr ips.
In the control mode, the indicator light in the
instrument cluster is lit
(Dj;(i )~i~ (US model) ,111
(Canadian model).
The cruise control system automatically
switches itself off imm ed iately under the fol­
lowing cond itions:
- Pressing the brake pedal.
- Pressing the clutch pedal.
A WARNING
-Always pay attention to traffic even when
the cruise control system is switched on.
You are always responsible for your
speed and the distance between your ve­ hicle and other vehicles.
- For safety reasons, the cruise control sys­ tem shou ld not be used in the city, in
stop-and-go traffic, on twisting roads
and when road conditions are poo r (such
as ice, fog, gravel, heavy rain and hydro­
planing) -risk of accident.
- Turn off the cr uise control system tem­
porarily when entering turn lanes, high­
way exit lanes or in construction zones.
- Please note that inadvertently "rest ing"
your foot on the accelerator peda l causes
the cruise control system not to brake .
This is because the cruise contro l system
is overridden by the driver's acceleration.

On manual transmission vehicles: If you
shift into neutral with the cruise contro l

system switched on, always depress the
clutch pedal! Otherwise the engine will
race and could be damaged as a result .
(D Tips
When driving on steep downward grades,
the cruise control system cannot keep the
speed constant. The vehicle's own weight
increases the speed. Shift into a lower gear
i n plenty of t ime or brake the vehicle with
the foot brake .
Saving the speed
The desired speed must be saved.

After the button @is released, the current ve­
hicle speed is sto red and maintai ned, i.e. you
are driv ing in control mode.

Plastic and vinyl
-
Use a clean, damp cloth or sponge to remove
dust and light surface dirt. For other soil, use
a lukewarm all-purpose clean ing solution or a
mild saddle soap for viny l trim. Paint care
products are not suitable for plastic and vinyl.

Carbon-fiber parts
App lies to vehicles: with carbon-fiber parts
The carbon -fibe r parts of your ve hicle have a
pa inted su rface. They do no t require special
care and are cleaned like o ther pa inted parts
¢page 161.
Touch-up paint
-
Your authorized A udi dealer has touch-up
pa int for minor sc ratches and stone ch ips. Mi­
nor paint damages such as scratches or stone
chips should be touched up immediately to prevent cor rosion.
The number for the or igina l vehicle paint can
be found on the vehicle ident ificat ion labe l
c::> page 226 .
However, if corrosion has fo rmed, you must
have this thorough ly removed by you author­
ized A udi dealer or other qualified workshop.

Windows
Clear vision improves traffic safety .
In order to maintain the performance of the
windshield wiper blades, never clean the w in­
dow glass with insect remover or wax.
Rubber, o il, g rease, or silicone residue can be
removed using a glass cleaner or a silicone re­
mo ver . Wax residue, however, can only be re­
moved using a spec ial cleaner. You can obta in
more information from yo ur autho rized Aud i
dealer .
You should a lso clean the inside of the win­
dow glass at regular i nterva ls.
T he cloth or chamois used on paint surfaces
contains wax residue. Use a separate cloth or
c h amois to dry the w indow glass.
Cleaning the rear window
Audi recommends clean ing the window using
a soft cotton cloth and water mixed with
cleaning so lution o r window cleane r (1:1 mix­
ture). To avo id streaks, do not w ipe the w in ­
dow dry with paper towels.
Do not use any cleaning sol utions that contain
ammonia, acids, silicone or fluoride or clean­
ers that are abras ive or could cause scratches.
Do not use any alkaline cleaning so luti ons.

- The winds hield must not be treated w ith
wate r-repellent materials . They can in­
crease glare unde r poo r vis ibility condi­
tions such a s wetness, da rkness, or w hen
the sun is low on the hor izon. In addi­
t ion, they can ca u se the w indshie ld w ip­
ers to chatter .
