■Automatic Lighting Control1Automatic Lighting Control
We recommend that you tu rn on the lights manually
when driving at night, in a dense fog, or in dark areas
such as long tunnels or parking facilities.
The light sensor is in the location shown below.
Do not cover this light sensor with anything;
otherwise, the automatic lighting system may not
work properly.

■Switching between the recirculation and fresh air modes
1.Select , or currently
shown.
2. Switch the mode depending on
environmental conditions to the following:
(recirculation mode): Recirculates air
from the vehicle’s interi or through the system.
(auto mode): Automatically switch
between the recirculation and fresh air modes
most suitable to environmental conditions. If
the ambient temperature is low, the mode
may not change to recirculation to keep the
windows from fogging up. (fresh air mode): Maintains outside
ventilation. Keep the sy stem in fresh air mode
in normal situations.1 Switching between the recirc ulation and fresh air modes
While the climate control system is in AUTO, is
highlighted.

When Driving
Starting the Engine
1.Make sure the parking brake is applied.
u The electric parking brake indicator
comes on for 15 seconds when you pull
up the electric parking brake switch.
2. Check that the shift lever is in
(P, then
depress the brake pedal.
u Although it is possibl e to start the vehicle
in
(N, it is safer to start it in (P.
1 Starting the Engine
Keep your foot firmly on the brake pedal when
starting the engine.
The engine is harder to st art in cold weather and in
thinner air found at altitudes above 8,000 feet (2,400
meters).
When starting the engine in cold weather, turn off all
electrical accessories such as the lights, climate
control system, and rear de fogger in order to reduce
battery drain.
If you live in a region where winter is extremely cold,
an engine block heater will improve starting and
warming of the engine. Cons ult a dealer for details.
If the exhaust system sounds abnormal or you can
smell exhaust gas inside the vehicle, have your vehicle
checked by a dealer. There may be a problem with
the engine or exhaust system.
The immobilizer system pr otects your vehicle from
theft.
If an improperly c oded device is used, the engine’s
fuel system is disabled.

■Roadway conditions
• Driving on a snowy or wet roadway (obscured lane marking, vehicle tracks,
reflected lights, road spray, high contrast).
■Vehicle conditions
• The outside of the windshie ld is blocked by dirt, mud, leaves, wet snow, etc.
• An abnormal tire or wheel condition (Wrong sized, varied size or construction,
improperly inflated, compact spare tire
*, etc.).
• The camera temperature gets too high.
• The parking brake is applied.
• When the front grille is dirty.
• When the front of the vehicle tilts up due to heavy cargo in the trunk or rear seats.
• When tire chains are installed.

uuWhen Driving uForward Collision Warning (FCW)
Driving
FCW may not activate or may not detect a ve hicle in front of your vehicle, and may
activate even when you are aware of a ve hicle ahead of you, or when there is no
vehicle ahead, under the following conditions.
■FCW Limitations
Condition
●The distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead of you is too short.●A vehicle cuts in front of you at a slow speed, and it brakes suddenly.●A vehicle suddenly crosses in front of you.●When either your vehicle or the vehicle ahead of you a ccelerates rapidly.●The vehicle ahead of you is a motorcycle, a small vehicle, or a unique vehicle such as a tractor.●When you drive off-road or on a mountain road, or curved and wi nding road for an extended period that makes it difficult for the sensor/camera to
properly detect a vehicle in front of you.
●When there are pedestrians or an imals in front of your vehicle.●When you drive in bad weather (rain, fog, etc.).●A heavy load in the rear or modificati ons to the suspension tilts your vehicle.●An abnormal tire condition is detected (wrong tire size, flat tire, etc.).●When the windshield is blocked by dirt, mud, leaves, wet snow, etc.●When the temperature inside the system is high.●A sudden change between light and dark such as an entrance or exit of a tunnel.●You drive into the sunlight (e.g. at dawn or dusk).●When the windshield is dirty or cloudy.●When streetlights are perceived as the ta illight of a vehicle in front of yours.●When driving at night, the vehicle ahead of you is running with either taillight bulb burned out.●When you drive in the shadows of trees, buildings, etc.

uuWhen Driving uLane Departure Warning (LDW)
Driving
LDW may not activate or may not recognize lanes, and may activate even when
keeping in the middle of a lane, under the following conditions.
■LDW Limitations
Condition
●When you drive in bad weather (rain, fog, etc.).●A heavy load in the rear or modificati ons to the suspension tilts your vehicle.●An abnormal tire condition is detected (wrong tire size, flat tire, etc.).●When the windshield is blocked by dirt, mud, leaves, wet snow, etc.●When the temperature inside the system is high.●A sudden change between light and dark such as an entrance or exit of a tunnel.●You drive into the sunlight (e.g. at dawn or dusk).●When the windshield is dirty or cloudy.●When you drive in the shadows of trees, buildings, etc.●When you drive on a wet road su rface following another vehicle.
uThe camera may perceive the tire tracks in the water as lane lines.●When there is snow or wheel tracks on the side of the road.●When the road has many repaired area or an erased lane line.●When the vehicle is running over pa inted signs or crosswalk markings.●When you drive in a lane with worn-out lane markings.
