WARNING LIGHTS AND MESSAGES
IMPORTANT The warning light switches on in the instrument panel together with a dedicated message and/or acoustic signal when
applicable. These indications are indicative and precautionary and as such must not be considered as exhaustive and/or alternative to
the information contained in the Owner Handbook, which you are advised to read carefully in all cases. Always refer to the information
in this section in the event of a failure indication.
IMPORTANT Failure indications displayed are divided into two categories: very serious and less serious failures. Serious faults are
indicated by a repeated and prolonged warning “cycle”. Less serious faults are indicated by a warning “cycle” with a shorter duration.
The display cycle of both categories can be interrupted. The instrument panel warning light will stay on until the cause of the
malfunction is eliminated.
WARNING LIGHTS ON INSTRUMENT PANEL
Warning lights on panelMeaning What to do
Restore the brake fluid level, then check that the warning
light has switched off.
If the warning light stays on, contact a dedicated Alfa
Romeo Dealership.
Release the handbrake, then check that the warning light
has switched off.
If the warning light stays on, contact a dedicated Alfa
Romeo Dealership.
LOW BRAKE FLUID/HANDBRAKE APPLIED
The warning light switches on when the key is turned to
MAR-ON, but it should switch off after a few seconds.
Low brake fluid level
The warning light turns on when the level of the brake fluid
in the reservoir falls below the minimum level, possibly
due to a leak in the circuit.
Handbrake engaged
The warning light switches on when the handbrake is
engaged.

(2) Irrespective of the mileage, the timing drive belt must be replaced every 4 years for heavy-duty use
(cold climates, town use, long periods of idling) or, in any case, every 5 years.
(3) The actual interval for changing the oil and replacing the engine oil filter depends on the car usage conditions and is signalled by the warning light

PERIODIC CHECKS
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys,
check and, if necessary, top up the
following:
❒ engine coolant level;
❒ brake fluid;
❒ windscreen washer fluid;
❒ tyre inflation pressure and condition;
❒ operation of lighting system
(headlights, direction indicators, hazard
warning lights, etc.);
❒ operation of windscreen
washing/wiping system and
positioning/wear of wiper blade.
Every 3,000 km check and top up if
required: engine oil level.
IMPORTANT To find out the correct oil
quantity, always check using the dipstick.
Carry out the check with the vehicle
parked on level ground.
DEMANDING USE OF THE CAR
If the vehicle is used mainly under one of
the following conditions:
❒ trailer or caravan towing;
❒ dusty roads;
❒ short repeated distances (less than
7-8 km) and with external temperatures
below zero;
❒ engine often idling or driving long
distances at low speeds or long periods
of inactivity;
❒ you should perform the following
inspections more frequently than shown
in the Scheduled Servicing Plan:
❒ check front disk brake pad conditions
and wear;
❒ check cleanness of locks, bonnet and
boot and lever cleanness and lubrication;
❒ visually inspect condition of: engine,
gearbox, transmission, pipes and hoses
(exhaust - fuel system - brakes) and
rubber elements (gaiters - sleeves -
bushes - etc.);
❒ check battery charge and battery fluid
level (electrolyte);❒ visually inspect conditions of the
accessory drive belts;
❒ check and, if necessary, change engine
oil and replace oil filter;
❒ check air cleaner and replace it, if
required.
Using the car on track should be regarded
as an exception. The car has been
designed and produced for road use.

If the fluid level in the reservoir is not
sufficient, proceed as follows:
❒ take the black funnel for topping up
the brake fluid and its extension pipe
from the servicing kit in the luggage
compartment;
94A0L0149
❒ undo the cap of the vessel and

116)Alfa 4C is designed and produced
for road use, in compliance with the
current regulations. Car use in the track
must be considered as occasional and in
any case under the responsibility of the
user. The car CANNOT be modified or
tampered with for any reason; this would
alter the Manufacturer homologation
and/or safety requirements. Using a
modified or tampered product relieves
the Manufacturer from any responsibility
on the product and may expose people to
serious risks.
117)Never smoke while working in the
engine compartment: gas and
inflammable vapours may be present,
with the risk of fire.
118)Be very careful when working in the
engine compartment when the engine is
hot: you may get burned.
119)If the engine oil is being topped up,
wait for the engine to cool down before
loosening the filler cap, particularly for
vehicles with aluminium cap (where
provided). WARNING: risk of burns!
120)The cooling system is pressurised.
If necessary, only replace the cap with
another original one or the operation of
the system may be adversely affected.
Do not remove the reservoir plug when
the engine is hot: you risk scalding
yourself.
IMPORTANT121)Do not travel with the windscreen
washer fluid reservoir empty: the
windscreen washer is essential for
improving visibility. Repeated operation
of the system without fluid could damage
or cause rapid deterioration of some
system components.
122) Some commercial additives for
windscreen washer fluid are flammable.
The engine compartment contains hot
components which may start a fire.
123)Brake fluid is poisonous and highly
corrosive. In the event of accidental
contact, immediately wash the affected
parts with water and mild soap.
Then rinse thoroughly. Call a doctor
immediately if swallowed.
124) The πsymbol on the container
indicates a synthetic brake fluid, which is
different from a mineral fluid. Using a
mineral fluid will damage the special
rubber seals of the braking system
beyond repair.
14)Be careful not to confuse the various
types of fluids while topping up: they are
not compatible with one another! Topping
up with an unsuitable fluid could severely
damage your vehicle.
15)The oil level must never exceed the
MAX reference.
16)Do not add oil with specifications
other than those of the oil already in the
engine.
17)PARAFLU
UPanti-freeze fluid is used in
the engine cooling system; use the same
fluid type as that already in the cooling
system when topping up.
PARAFLU
UPmay not be mixed with other
types of anti-freeze fluids. In the event of
topping up with an unsuitable product,
under no circumstances start the engine
and contact a dedicated Alfa Romeo
Dealership.
18)Prevent brake fluid, which is highly
corrosive, from coming into contact with
painted parts. Should it happen, wash
immediately with water.
19)Be very careful when restoring /
topping up the brake fluid level, as it may
be leaking from the extension pipe, inside
the vehicle bonnet and parts of
windscreen and body, causing corrosion
damages. Provide for the use of
appropriate guards (e.g. absorbent paper)
in order to limit this risk at most.
WARNING
4)Used engine oil and oil filters contain
substances which are harmful to the
environment. You are advised to go to a
dedicated Alfa Romeo Dealership to have
the oil and filters changed.
