Therecommendationsonthispage
are the ones we consider to be the
most important.
A seat belt is your best protection in
all types of collisions. Airbags are
designed to supplement seat belts,
not replace them. So even though
your vehicle is equipped with airbags,
make sure you and your passengers
always wear your seat belts, and
wear them properly (see page ).
Alcohol and driving don’t mix. Even
one drink can reduce your ability to
respond to changing conditions, and
your reaction time gets worse withevery additional drink. So don’t drink
and drive, and don’t let your f riends
drink and drive, either.
While airbags can save lives, they
can cause serious or fatal injuries to
occupants who sit too close to them,
or are not properly restrained.
Inf ants, young children, and short
adults are at the greatest risk. Be
sure to f ollow all instructions and
warnings in this manual.
Children age 12 and under should
ride properly restrained in a back
seat, not the front seat. Infants and
smallchildrenshouldberestrained
in a child seat. Larger children
should use a booster seat and a lap/
shoulder belt until they can use the
belt properly without a booster seat
(see pages ). Excessive speed is a major f actor in
crash injuries and deaths. Generally,
the higher the speed, the greater the
risk, but serious injuries can also
occur at lower speeds. Never drive
f aster than is saf e f or current
conditions, regardless of the
maximum speed posted.
Having a tire blowout or a
mechanical f ailure can be extremely
hazardous. To reduce the possibility
of such problems, check your tire
pressures and condition f requently,
and perform all regularly scheduled
maintenance (see page ).

Your f ront airbags are dual-stage
airbags. This means they have two
inf lation stages that can be ignited
sequentially or simultaneously,
depending on crash severity.
In a crash, both stages
will ignite simultaneously to provide
the quickest and greatest protection.
In a crash, one stage will
ignite first, then the second stage
will ignite a split second later. This
provides longer airbag inf lation time
with a little less force.
The total time for inflation and
def lation is one-tenth of a second, so
f ast that most occupants are not
aware that the airbags deployed until
they see them lying in their laps.
After a crash, you may see what
looks like smoke. This is actually
powder f rom the airbag’s surf ace.
Although the powder is not harmf ul,
people with respiratory problems
mayexperiencesometemporary
discomf ort. If this occurs, get out of
the vehicle as soon as it is saf e to do
so.
Af ter inf lating, the f ront airbags
immediately def late, so they won’t
interf ere with the driver’s visibility,
or the ability to steer or operate
other controls.

Children depend on adults to protect
them. However, despite their best
intentions, many adults do not know
how to protect child
passengers.
If you have children, or ever need to
drive with a child in your vehicle, be
sure to read this section. It begins
with important general guidelines,
then presents special inf ormation f or
infants, small children, and larger
children.To reduce the number of child
deaths and injuries, every state and
Canadian province requires that
inf ants and children be properly
restrained when they ride in a
vehicle.

Each year, many children are injured
or killed in vehicle crashes because
they are either unrestrained or not
properly restrained. In f act, vehicle
accidents are the number one cause
of the death of children aged 12 and
under.

When you turn the ignition switch to
the ON (II) position, the immobilizer
system indicator should come on
brief ly, then go of f . If the indicator
starts to blink, it means the system
does not recognize the coding of the
key. Turn the ignition switch to the
LOCK (0) position, remove the key,
reinsert it, and turn the ignition
switch to the ON (II) position again. If you have lost your key and cannot start the engine, contact your dealer.
Do not attempt to alter this system
or add other devices to it. Electrical
problems could result that may make
your vehicle undrivable.
If the system repeatedly does not
recognize the coding of your key,
contact your dealer.
The system may not recognize your
key’s coding if another immobilizer
key or other metal object (i.e. key
f ob) is near the ignition switch when
you insert the key.
The immobilizer system protects
your vehicle f rom thef t. If an
improperly-coded key (or other
device) is used, the engine’s f uel
system is disabled.

You can use the inside of the lid f or a
pen holder, a coin holder and a card
holder.The console compartment has two
shelves to divide it into two levels.
To store small items, you can use the
upperhalfofthespacebyputting
the shelves down until they latch.
The f ront and rear shelves can be
used separately.When you store a large item like a
brief case, lif t the shelves up to
create a large space.
The console compartment light
comes on when the parking lights
are on. The items on each shelves should
not exceed 11 lbs (5 kg). Heavy
items may damage the shelves.The maximum dimensions of the
item you can store in the console
compartment are:

To pause a disc, press the
corresponding number of the
current disc on the appropriate side
of the preset bars. To play the disc
again, press the preset bar again.
If you turn the system of f while a CD
is playing, either with the PWR/VOL
knob or by turning off the ignition
switch, the disc will stay in the drive.
When you turn the system back on,
the CD will begin playing where it
left off.Press and hold the eject button until
you hear a beep to remove all the
discs from the changer.
You can also eject discs when the
ignition switch is of f by pressing the
eject button. The disc that was last
selected is ejected f irst. You can
eject the rest of the discs one at a
time.

To remove a dif f erent CD f rom the
changer, select it with the
appropriate side of the preset bar.
When that CD begins playing, press
the eject button.
To take the system out of CD mode,
press the AM or FM, CD/AUX, or
button. To return to CD
mode, press the CD/AUX button.
The system will continue at the same
point that it left off. To remove the disc that is currently
playing, press and release the eject
( ) button. You will see
‘‘EJECT’’ on the center display.
When you remove the disc f rom the
slot, the system begins the load
sequence so you can load another
disc in that position. If you do not
load another CD within 10 seconds,
the system selects the previous
mode (AM, FM1, FM2, or XM
Radio).
If you do not remove the CD f rom
the slot, the system will reload the
CD af ter 10 seconds and put the CD
changer in pause mode. To begin
playing the CD, press the CD/AUX
button.

In MP3/WMA mode
This
f eature plays the f iles within a f older
in random order, rather than in the
order they are compressed in MP3/
WMA. To activate folder random
play, press the AUDIO button to
view the audio control display, then
push down the selector on the
interface dial. Rotate the interface
dial to select the f older random.
Press ENTER on the selector to
enter your selection.
You will see ‘‘FOLDER RANDOM’’
on the audio control display. To turn
of f this f eature, select the f older
random then, press ENTER again.You can play a DVD-A disc in the CD
changer. The disc controls are same
as previously described.
To pause a disc, press the preset
button which corresponds to the
current disc. To play the disc again,
press the preset button again.
You can also pause a disc on the
audio control display. Press the
AUDIO button to view the display,
select the corresponding number of
the current disc on the preset icons
by turning the interface knob, then
press ENTER on the interf ace
selector. To play the disc again,
select the preset icon, then press
ENTER again.
