Immediately have the service
perf ormed, and make sure to reset
the engine oil lif e display as
previously described.
If the indicated maintenance service
is not done and the remaining engine
oil lif e reaches 0%, the multi-
inf ormation display will show the
message ‘‘SERVICE PAST DUE’’
and the maintenance item code(s).
This message is displayed when the
total distance traveled is less than 10
miles (f or U.S. models) or 10 km (f or
Canadian models) af ter the engine
oillifebecame0%. Press the SEL/RESET button on the
steering wheel repeatedly to select
the engine oil lif e minder. The
message ‘‘SERVICE OIL LIFE’’,
along with ‘‘0%’’, and the
maintenance item code are displayed
on the lower part of the multi-
inf ormation display when the
calculated engine oil lif e is 0 percent.
These messages will come on every
time you turn the ignition switch to
the ON (II) position.
Pressing either INFO button ( / )
switches the display f rom the
message to another display. To see
the message again, press either
INFO button repeatedly.

when you drive over 10 miles (f or
U.S. models) or 10 km (f or Canadian
models) af ter seeing 0%.
When you press the SEL/RESET
button to select the engine oil lif e
minder, the message ‘‘SERVICE’’,

traveled af ter the oil lif e became 0
percent, will be displayed on the

done but do not reset the display, or
reset the display without doing the
service, the system will not show the
correct maintenance intervals. This

If the message ‘‘SERVICE DUE NOW’’ does not appear more than 12 months
after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year.
See information on maintenance and emissions warranty on page .
Inspect idle speed every 160,000 miles (256,000 km).
Adjust the valves during services A, B, 1, 2, or 3 only if they are noisy. Independent of the Maintenance Minder information, replace the brake
fluid every 3 years.

The component parts in the engine
compartment are protected by
several covers. You may need to
remove the covers when you
perf orm some simple maintenance
work.
All of the covers are secured by
holding clips.
To remove the battery cover, turn
the knob of the f astener and remove
the holding clips by pushing on the
center of each f astener head.
To remove the f ront bulkhead cover:Remove the battery cover.

To remove the lef t engine
compartment cover:
To remove the right engine
compartment cover:Remove the battery and front
bulkhead covers (see page ).
Remove the holding clips by
pushingonthecenterof each
f astener head.
Take the windshield washer hose
out f rom the holder on the bottom
side of the cover.
When reinstalling the covers, make
sure the pins and tabs are in their
proper positions. Remove the holding clips by
pushingonthecenterof each
f astener head. Remove the battery cover (see
page ).

If your vehicle’s battery is
disconnected or goes dead, all stored
driving positions will be lost. To
store the driving positions again, see
the storing procedure on page .
The navigation system will also
disableitself.Thenexttimeyouturn
on the ignition switch, the system
will require you to enter a PIN
bef ore it can be used. Ref er to the
navigation system manual.If your vehicle’s battery is
disconnected or goes dead, the audio
system may disable itself . The next
timeyouturnontheradioyouwill
see ‘‘ ’’ in the f requency
display. Use the preset buttons to
enter the code (see page ).
If your vehicle’s battery is
disconnected or goes dead, the
power tilt and telescopic steering
wheel system will be disabled. The
system needs to be reset af ter
reconnecting the battery (see page
).
The compass system will also disable
itself.Thenexttimeyouturnonthe
ignition switch, the system will
require you to enter a PIN bef ore it
can be used. Enter the f our-digit anti-
theftsecuritycode(seepage ).
You will also need to reset the clock
according to the instruction of
setting the clock (see page ).
