The appropriate light comes on in
this display if the trunk or any door
is not closed tightly.
All the lights in the monitor display
come on f or a f ew seconds when you
turn the ignition switch to ON (II).The lef t or right turn signal light
blinks when you signal a lane change
or turn. If the light does not blink or
blinks rapidly, it usually means one
of the turn signal bulbs is burned out
(see page ). Replace the bulb as
soon as possible, since other drivers
cannot see that you are signaling.
This indicator has three f unctions:
Itcomesonasareminderthatyou
have turned of f the Vehicle
Stability Assist (VSA) system.
It flashes when VSA is active (see
page ).
It comes on along with the VSA
system indicator if there is a
problem with the VSA system.
This indicator normally comes on f or
a f ew seconds when you turn the
ignition switch to ON (II). See page f or more inf ormation on the
VSA system. Whenyouturnonthehazard
warning switch, both turn signal
lights blink, and all turn signals on
the outside of the car should f lash.

This shows the temperature of the
engine’s coolant. During normal
operation, the pointer should rise
from the bottom white mark to about
the middle of the gauge. In severe
driving conditions, such as very hot
weather or a long period of uphill
driving, the pointer may rise into the
upperhalfofthegauge.Ifitreaches
the red (Hot) mark, pull safely to the
side of the road. Turn to page f or
instructions and precautions on
checking the engine’s cooling
system.
This meter shows the number of
miles (U.S.) or kilometers (Canada)
driven since you last reset it.
This indicator displays the outside
Fahrenheit temperature in U.S.
models, and Centigrade temperature
in Canadian models.
The temperature sensor is located in
the f ront bumper. Theref ore, the
temperature reading can be af f ected
by heat ref lection f rom the road sur-
f ace, engine heat, and the exhaust
f rom surrounding traf f ic. This can
cause an incorrect temperature read-
ing when your speed is under
19 mph (30 km/h).
In certain weather conditions,
temperature readings near f reezing
(32°F, 0°C) could mean that ice is
f orming on the road surf ace. There are two trip meters: Trip A
and Trip B. Switch between these
displays by pressing the Select/
Reset knob repeatedly. Each trip
meter works independently, so you
can keep track of two dif f erent
distances.
When you turn the ignition switch to
ON (II), what you last selected is
displayed.
To reset a trip meter, display it and
then press and hold the Select/Reset
knob until the number resets to ‘‘0.0’’.
Both trip meters will reset if the car’s
battery goes dead or is disconnected.

With the headlight switch off, the
high beam headlights and the high
beam indicator come on with
reduced brightness when you turn
the ignition switch to ON (II) and
release the parking brake. They
remain on until you turn the ignition
of f , even if you set the parking brake.
The headlights revert to normal
operation when you turn them on
with the switch.The instrument panel will illuminate
with reduced brightness when you
unlock and open the driver’s door.
The brightness will increase slightly
when you insert the key in the
ignitionswitch,thengotonormal
brightness when you turn the
ignition switch to ON (II).
Turntheknobontherightsideof
the instrument panel to adjust the
instrument panel brightness. There
are six brightness levels. When you
turn the knob, the odometer display
changes to circles that show you the
current level. The display returns to
the odometer values f ive seconds
af ter you stop adjusting the knob. If you do not insert the key in the
ignition switch af ter opening and
closing the driver’s door, the
illumination turns of f in about 30
seconds.
If you insert the key but do not turn
the ignition switch to ON (II), the
illumination turns of f in about 10
seconds.

ÛÝPressing the OFF button shuts the
climate control system completely
of f . Keep the system completely of f
only f or short periods. To keep stale
air and mustiness f rom collecting,
you should have the f an running at
all times.
The system automatically selects the
proper mix of conditioned and/or
heated air that will, as quickly as
possible, raise or lower the interior
temperature f rom its current level to
the set temperature.
When you set the temperature to its
lower limit ‘‘ ’’ or its upper
limit ‘‘ ’’, the system runs at
f ull cooling or heating only. It does
not regulate the interior temperature.
In cold weather, the f an will not
come on automatically until the car
has been driven f or a short time and
the heater starts to develop warm air.
To put the Automatic Climate
Control in f ully-automatic mode,
press the AUTO button, then set the
desired temperature by pressing
‘‘ ’’ or ‘‘ ’’ on the driver’s side
temperature control bar. You will see
AUTO in the system’s display. Fully-automatic Operation

Press the A/C button to turn the air
conditioningonandoff.Youwillsee
A/C ON or A/C OFF in the display. You can manually select various
f unctions of the Climate Control
system when it is in f ully automatic
mode. All other f eatures remain
automatically controlled. Making any
manual selection causes the word
AUTO in the display to go out.
When you turn the A/C of f , the sys-
tem cannot regulate the inside tem-
perature if you set the temperature
below the outside temperature. With
the A/C of f , use the driver’s side tem-
perature control bar to adjust the
temperature of the air flow to a com-

Ý Use the MODE button to select the
vents the air flows from. Some air
will f low f rom the dashboard corner
vents in all modes; you can turn it of f
with the dial below each vent. Each
time you press the MODE button,
the display shows the mode selected.
Press the button four times to see allthe modes.
This button controls the source of air
going into the system. When the
indicator in this button is lit, air f rom
the car’s interior is sent through the
system again (Recirculation mode).
When the indicator is off, air is
brought in f rom outside the car
(Fresh Air mode).
You can, f or example, manually put
the system in recirculation mode
when driving through an area of
smoke or f umes.
Press the DUAL button to select
dual temperature control mode (see
page ).
You can manually select the f an
speed by pressing the f an control
bar: to increase the f an’s speed, or
to decrease the f an’s speed.

Your car is equipped with two
temperature control bars, one f or the
driver, and one f or the passenger.
Thedriver’ssideandthepassenger’s
side can be controlled independently
by adjusting these bars when the
green indicator in the DUAL button
is lit.
Push the fan, the A/C, the AUTO, or
the button, and the set
temperatures appear in the display.
When the indicator in the DUAL
button is off, you can adjust both
sides to the same temperature with
the driver’s side control bar.
To set the driver’s side temperature
to a different value than the
passenger’s, press the DUAL button,
then press ‘‘ ’’ or ‘‘ ’’ on the driver’s
side control bar. To set the
passenger’s side to a dif f erent value
than the driver’s side, press ‘‘ ’’ or
‘‘ ’’ on the passenger’s side control
bar (see page ). You can adjust
the passenger’s side without
pressing the DUAL button first.When you set the temperature to its
lower limit or its upper limit, it will be
displayed as ‘‘ ’’ or ‘‘ ’’.

To put the Automatic Climate
Control in f ully-automatic mode,
press the AUTO button. The
indicator in the button will light.
Then set the desired temperature by
pressing ‘‘ ’’ or ‘‘ ’’ on the driver’s
side temperature control bar.
The system automatically selects the
