Lower track control link,
removing and installing

Removing

- Remove wheel trim.

On light alloy wheels use puller in vehicle tool kit
to remove trim cap.

- Remove wheel.

Notes:

Cover the CV joint boot (e.g. by inserting a
piece of leather) to protect it from damage.
For vehicles with headlight range control

Be careful not to damage the boot. - Remove nut from ball joint of lower track control link, then press ball
joint from tapered seat.
- If necessary counterhold ball joint using 4 mm hex wrench.

CAUTION!
Install a support device (e.g. VAG1383A transmission jack) to
prevent damage to the upper link joints resulting from excessive
rebound travel in the suspension.
Installing
Notes: - Remove bolt -1-.
- Remove ribbed nuts -2- and -3-, then remove connecting link.
- Remove bolt -4-.
- Remove lower track control link.
All nuts and bolts must be replaced

CAUTION!
The bonded rubber bushings can only be turned to a limited extent.
The bolted connections on the suspension links should therefore
only be tightened when the vehicle is standing on the ground.
Only use inner holes (arrows).Remove any residue from threads of ball joint.

Arrow on the connecting link points in the direction of travel. - Install new bolt -4- and new nut.

Tightening torque: 80 Nm (59 ft lb) + 1/4-turn (90 )- Tighten nuts at ball joints (lower guide and track control links) to 100
Nm (74 ft lb).
- Tighten nut -1- to 90 Nm (66 ft lb).
- For vehicles with headlight range control, install linkage page 40

Tighten nut -2- to 40 Nm (30 ft lb) + 1/4-turn (90 ).- Tighten nut -3- to 100 Nm (74 ft lb).

Note:
Always use protective jaw covers when clamping
an aluminium link in a vise.

The markings on the lower track control link and on the side of the
bushing should be parallel.

Pulling in inner bushing
- Insert bushing -A- 3.2 mm (1/8 in.) into recess of 3346/1 thrust piece.
- Pull bushing in up to stop.

- Insert bushing -A- 8 mm (5/16 in.) into recess of 3346/1 thrust piece.
- Pull bushing in up to stop.
