makes it even more necessary to pay close attention to traffic.
• Always select a speed and distance to traffic ahead that is safe
and appropriate under the prevailing traffic, road, weather and

• Never rely on the distance control feature of ACC alone to
prevent rear-end collisions. Always be prepared to brake and take
evasive action to avoid collisions and other accident situations.
• Never allow the closing speed between you and other vehicles
to be so high that the Adaptive Cruise Control may not be able to slow your vehicle safely .
If closing speed is too high, you must
apply the brakes yourself to reduce the risk of a rear-end crash.
• Always select a greater following distance to the vehicle ahead
on wet roads than on dry roads.

• Distance can be adjusted using the slider switch on the lever and
through Adaptive Cruise Control in the MMI menu~ page
150. The
settings in the MMI menu are stored automatically and allocated to
the remote control key.
• If the distance was not set in the MMI menu Adaptive Cruise
Control , it is reset to the factory setting DISTANCE 3 when the igni­
tion is turned on. •

set is highlighted in the speedometer and the warning lights show
whether adjustments are being made fo r an object ahead .
This information is always disp layed. Display area @is therefore

primary display.
@ Supplementary disp lay
In display area@ infor mation fro m the navigation sys te m and the
trip computer is displayed in addition to information about Adaptive
Cruise Control. You can select among
the different information by repeated brief
t aps on the RESET b utto n on the w indshield wiper lever ~

P articularly on your first trips with Adaptive Cruise Control, the
supplementary display should be turned on.

your lane of travel. Your speed is adjusted according to the speed of
the vehicle up front. ACC accelerates and brakes automatical ly
within the system's capabilities.

You as the driver must slow the vehicle with the foot brake. The
symbo l "°""G'.'.::l tells you that the Adaptive Cruise Control is not able

vehicle in front of you . A warning tone signal wi ll also sound when
the symbol appears .

• If the Adaptive Cruise Control initiates braking, the hydraulic
brake system is under pressure . Therefore, the brake peda l distance
is shorter and the pedal feels "harder".
• If you use the accelerator to go faster than the speed of the
vehicle ahead of you, the driver intervention prompt wi ll not be
accompanied by a warning tone.
• If the speed you previously set is exceeded, the indicator light in
the speedometer wi ll switch o ff.•

Rear -view camera (Rear View)
The rear -vie w camera picture, appearing in the MM/
Dis play, sh ows the area behind the vehicle .

Parking m od e
Two different parking modes are available for parking with the rear ­
view camera . The two different parking modes are denotes as
"parking mode 1 " => page 178 and "parking mode Z' => page 179.
"Parking mode 1 " => fig . 196, for example, can be used to park in a
parking space or a parking garage=>
page 178.
"Parking mode 2" => fig . 197, for example, can be used to (parallel)
park on the side of the road =>
page 179.
"Parking mode 1" appears by default in the MM I Disp lay if the rear ­
view camera is activated=>
page 173. You can switch to "parking
mode
2" by pressing the control button with the mode ©
=> page 178, fig . 201 function. By repeated ly pressing the control
bu tton with the
mode function, you can switch back and forth
between "parking mode
1" and "parking mode 2" .
Or ientat ion lines and marked surface s
Orientation lines and colored marked surfaces(=> page 178, fig. 200
or=> page 179 , fig. 202) are projected into the rear -view camera
pictures , subject to the two different parking modes . These orienta ­
t ion lines and surfaces offer aid when parking or maneuvering . The
orientation lines and surfaces refer to the height of a level driving
surface.
When the indicated orientat ion lines and indicated blue surfaces
superimpose vehicles or objects, at the latest, the respective
distance to the vehicles or objects has become too short
=>
page 782 .
If the t runk lid is open or if an electrical connection to the trailer
socket* is established=>
page 783, the orientation lines and marked
surfaces are notdisplayed .
In the MMI you can preset wh ich sys tem is to be shown on the MMI
display =>
page 785:
• Visual disp lay,
• Rear -view camera picture,
• An automatic sw itch between v isual disp lay and rear -view

T he rear -view camera can be turned on and off in the MM I

The visual display and rear-view camera are preset in the
MM!.

The rear-view camera and the visual display can be used separately
or in combination for parking .
When you switch manually to the rear -view camera v ia the control
button with the
Re ar V ie w function => fig. 211, the control button
with the
Graphic function => page 180, fig. 203 appears . You can
switch back and forth between the rear-view camera and visua l
parking assist at any
time via the disp layed control button function .
The presettings in the MMI are retained .
"Graphic " setting
If you have set the Graphi c function, the visual display will be
displayed in the MMI display by defau lt upon activation of the
parking assis t system => fig . 211 .
"Rear Vi evv " s ett ing
If you have set the R ear View function , the picture from the rear­
v iew camera =>
page 178, fig. 20 1 will be displayed when driving
backward and forward whenever the parking assist system is acti­
vated.
" Autom atic" sett in g
If you have set the automat ic function, the picture fro m the rear­
view camera will automatically be displayed when reverse gear is engaged and the visual disp lay will be displayed on the MM I display
when you drive forward . .,.
