SafetyinformationWARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess one's physical state. An increasing lack of alertness or fatiguemay not be detected or not be detected intime. There is a risk of an accident. Make sure
that the driver is rested and alert. Adjust drivj ing style to traffic conditions.'

DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Anti-lockBrakingSystem
ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during
braking.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing
active safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the enj gine.
Brakeassistant When you apply the brakes rapidly, this systemautomatically produces the greatest possible
braking force boost. It reduces the braking disj
tance to a minimum during emergency stop.
This system utilizes all of the benefits provided
by the Antilock Brake System ABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.DSCDynamicStability
Control
Concept
Within the physical limits, the system helps to
keep the vehicle on a steady course by reducj
ing engine speed and by applying brakes to
the individual wheels.
Generalinformation
DSC detects the following unstable driving conditions, for instance:'yFishtailing, which can lead to oversteering.'yLoss of traction of the front wheels, which
can lead to understeering.
Dynamic Traction Control DTC, refer to
page 143, is a version of the DSC where forj
ward momentum is optimized.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canj
not independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving
style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely
and actively intervene where appropriate.'

Indicator/warninglights The indicator lamp flashes: DSC conj
trols the drive and braking forces.
The indicator lamp lights up: DSC has
malfunctioned.
DeactivatingDSC:DSCOFF
Generalinformation When DSC is deactivated, driving stability is
reduced during acceleration and when driving in curves.
To increase vehicle stability, activate DSC again as soon as possible.
DeactivatingDSC Press and hold this button but not lonjger than approx. 10 seconds, until the
indicator light for DSC OFF lights up in the inj
strument cluster and displays DSC OFF.
DSC is switched off.
The steering and, depending on the equipj
ment, suspension are tuned for sporty driving.

Indicator/warninglights When DSC is deactivated, DSC OFF is disj
played in the instrument cluster.
The indicator lamp lights up: DSC is
deactivated.
DTCDynamicTraction
Control
Concept
DTC is a version of the DSC Dynamic Stability Control where forward momentum is optij mized.
The system ensures maximum headway on
special road conditions or loose road surfaces,
for instance unplowed snowy roads, but with
somewhat limited driving stability.
When DTC is activated, the vehicle has maxij
mum traction. Driving stability is limited during
acceleration and when driving in curves.
Drive carefully.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC
under the following special circumstances:'yWhen driving in slush or on uncleared,
snow-covered roads.'yWhen freeing vehicle from deep snow or driving off from loose ground.'yWhen driving with snow chains.

xDrive xDrive is the all-wheel-drive system of your vej
hicle. Concerted action by the xDrive and DSC
Dynamic Stability Control further optimizes
traction and driving dynamics. The xDrive all-
wheel-drive system variably distributes the
drive forces to the front and rear axles as dej
manded by the driving situation and road surj
face.
DynamicDampingControl
Concept
This system reduces undesirable vehicle moj tion when using a dynamic driving style or travj
eling on uneven road surfaces.
This enhances the driving dynamics and drivj
ing comfort depending on the road surface
condition and driving style.
ProgramsThe system offers several different programs.
The programs can be selected via Driving Dyj namics Control.
SPORT Consistently sporty control of the shock abj
sorbers for greater driving agility.
SPORT+ Consistently sporty control of the shock abj
sorbers for greater driving agility when driving with limited driving stabilization.COMFORT/ECOPRO
Balanced control of the vehicle.
Variablesportsteering The support offered by the variable sport
steering changes according to the angle by
which the steering wheel has been turned and
the speed.
So, for instance the steering angle of the front wheels is made larger when parking or taking
tight corners. This makes it easier to drive
around bends.
Furthermore, the system provides the steering with more support at low speeds than at higher ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance, and makes steering more direct when drivingat faster speeds.
By taking the angle by which the steering wheel has been turned and the speed into acjcount, a sporty steering response adapted tothe particular driving situation can be achieved.
Servotronic
Concept
Servotronic is a speed-dependent power
steering function.
The system provides the steering force with
more support at low speeds than at higher
ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance,
and makes steering more direct when driving
at faster speeds.
Furthermore, the steering force adapts accordj ing to the driving program, so that a direct,
sporty feel or a comfortable steering response
is conveyed.Seite 144ControlsDrivingstabilitycontrolsystems144

DrivingDynamicsControlConcept
The Driving Dynamics Control helps to fine-
tune the vehicle's settings and features. Varij ous programs can be selected for this purpose.
The Driving Dynamics Control and the DSC OFF buttons can each be used to activate a
program.

ActiveCruiseControlwith
Stop&GofunctionACC
Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a disj
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using
the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle acj
celerates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the
set distance to the vehicle ahead is mainj
tained. The speed is adjusted as far as the
given situation allows.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respecj tive speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and
then proceeds to drive again within a brief pej
riod, the system is able to detect this within the given system limits.
Generalinformation Depending on the driving settings, the featuresof the cruise control can change in certain
areas.Safetyinformation

gaged.'yDynamic Traction Control DTC is activated
or DSC Dynamic Stability Control is deactij vated.'yIf DSC Dynamic Stability Control interj
venes.'yWhen SPORT+ is activated with Driving

an extended period, for instance on a road
with very little traffic without curb or
shoulder markings.'yIf the detection range of the radar is imj paired, for instance by dirt or heavy fog.'yAfter a stationary period of approx. 3 secj

Settingthespeed
Maintaining/storingthespeed
Press the rocker switch while the system is inj terrupted.
When the system is switched on, the current
speed is maintained and stored as the desired
speed.
The stored speed is displayed in the speedomj
eter and briefly in the instrument cluster, refer
to page 151.
DSC Dynamic Stability Control is switched on,
if necessary.
The speed can also be stored bypressing a button.
Press button.
Changingthespeed
Press the rocker switch up or down repeatedly
until the desired speed is set.
If active, the displayed speed is stored and the vehicle reaches the stored speed when the
road is clear.
'yEach time the rocker switch is pressed to
the point of resistance, the desired speed increases or decreases by approx.
1 mph/1 km/h.'yEach time the rocker switch is pressed
past the resistance point, the desired
speed changes by a maximum of 5 mph/
