Pathwaylines
Pathway lines can be superimposed on the imj
age of the rearview camera.
Pathway lines help you to estimate the space
required when parking and maneuvering on level roads.
Pathway lines depend on the current steering angle and are continuously adjusted to the
steering wheel movements.
Turningradiuslines
Turning radius lines can only be superimposed
on the rearview camera image together with pathway lines.
Turning radius lines show the course of the
smallest possible turning radius on a level road.
Only one turning radius line is displayed after
the steering wheel is turned past a certain anj
gle.
Obstaclemarking
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, obstacle
markings can be faded into the image of the rearview camera.
The colored thresholds of the obstacle markj
ings match the markings of the PDC Park Disj
tance Control.

Detectionofobjects
Very low obstacles as well as high, protruding objects such as ledges may not be detected by
the system.
If the vehicle is equipped accordingly, some
assistance functions also consider data from
PDC Park Distance Control.
Follow the notes in the PDC Park Distance
Control chapter.
The objects displayed on the Control Display may be closer than they appear. Do not estij
mate the distance from the objects on the disj
play.
Parkingassistant
Concept
The system supports parking in the following
situations:
'yWhen parking parallel to the road.'yWhen reverse parking diagonally to the
road.
Generalinformation
Parking assistant handling is divided into three
steps:
'ySwitching on and activating.'yParking space search.'yParking.
Ultrasound sensors measure parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
The parking assistant calculates the best posj
sible parking line and takes control of steering
during the parking procedure.
System status and instructions on required acj tions are displayed on the Control Display.
The parking assistant uses the sensors of PDC
Park Distance Control.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving

Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Ultrasonic measurements might not function in
the following situations:'yFor small children and animals.'yFor persons with certain clothing, for inj
stance coats.'yWith external interference of the ultraj
sound, for instance from passing vehicles or loud machines.'yWhen sensors are dirty, iced over, damj
aged or out of position.'yUnder certain weather conditions such as
high relative humidity, wet conditions,
snowfall, extreme heat, or strong wind.'yWith tow bars and trailer couplings of other vehicles.'yWith thin or wedge-shaped objects.'yWith moving objects.'yWith elevated, protruding objects such asledges or cargo.'yWith objects with corners and sharp edges.'yWith objects with a fine surface structuresuch as fences.'yFor objects with porous surfaces.'yIf cargo protrudes.'yLow objects already displayed, for instance
curbs, can move into the blind area of the sensors before or after a continuous tone
sounds.
Parking spaces that are not suitable may be
detected or suitable parking spaces may not be detected at all.

ClimatecontrolVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.Interiorairquality
The air quality inside the vehicle is improved
by an emissions-tested interior, a microfilter, and a climate-control system for regulatingtemperature, air flow, and recirculated-airmode.
In addition there are other functions which dej
pend on the vehicle's equipment, for instance microfilter/activated-charcoal filter, automaticclimate control with automatic recirculated-air
control AUC, and parked-car ventilation.

Switchingthesystemon/off
Switchingon
Press any button except for the following:'yRear window defroster.'ySeat heating.
Switchingoff
Press the left button for the minimumspeed.
Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if necesj sary by using the maximum cooling or heatingpower, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temj perature settings. Otherwise, the automatic clijmate control will not have sufficient time to adj
just the set temperature.
Airconditioning Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and
dehumidified and, depending on the temperaj
ture setting, warmed again.
The car's interior can only be cooled with the
engine running.
Switchingon/off
Press button.
Air conditioning is switched on or off.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when the enj
gine is started.
The air conditioning is switched on automatij
cally with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water, refer to page 195, develj
ops and drains underneath the vehicle. This is
normal.
AUTOprogram
Concept
Air flow, air distribution and temperature are controlled automatically.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Depending on the selected temperaj
ture and outside influences, the air is directed to the windshield, side windows, upper body, and into the floor area.
The air conditioning, refer to page 169, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO proj gram.
Recirculated-airmode Concept
You may react to unpleasant odors or polluj
tants in the immediate environment by tempoj rarily suspending the supply of outside air. The
system then recirculates the air flow within the
vehicle.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:Seite 169ClimatecontrolControls169

'yLED off: outside air flows in continuously.'yLED on, recirculated-air mode: the supply
of outside air into the vehicle is permaj
nently blocked.
To prevent window fogging, recirculated-air
mode switches off automatically after a certain amount of time, depending on the environj
mental conditions.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the car's interior deteriorates and the
fogging of the windows increases.
If the windows fog over, switch off recircuj
lated-air mode and increase the air flow, if
needed.
Controllingtheairflowmanually
Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted manually.
Operation Press the left or right side of the butj
ton: decrease or increase air flow.
The air flow from the air conditioner may be rej duced automatically to save battery power.
Controllingtheairdistribution
manually
Concept
The air distribution for climate control can be
adjusted manually.
Operation

Defrostingwindowsandremoving
condensation
Make the following settings to defrost the winjdows and remove condensation:
'yDirect the air distribution onto the winj
dows.'yIncreasing the air flow.'yIncrease the temperature.'ySwitch on the air conditioning if needed.
Rearwindowdefroster
Press button. The LED lights up.The rear window defroster switches
off automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter In external and recirculated-air mode the mijcrofilter filters dust and pollen from the air.
Have this filter changed during vehicle maintejnance, refer to page 238.
