The system could be delayed or malfunction in
the following situations:'yWhen the system has not been initialized.'yWhen driving on a snowy or slippery road
surface.'ySporty driving style: spinning traction
wheels, high lateral acceleration (drifting).'yWhen driving with snow chains.
Actionsintheeventofaflattire
Normaltires
1.Identify the damaged tire.
Check the air pressure in all four tires, e.g., using the tire pressure gage of a tire repair
kit.
If the tire inflation pressure in all four tires
is correct, the Flat Tire Monitor may not
have been initialized. In this case, initialize
the system.
If identification of flat tire damage is not possible, please contact a dealerss servicecenter or another qualified service center
or repair shop.2.Repair the flat tire, e.g., with a tire repair kit
or by changing the tire.
Run-flattires
Maximumspeed
You may continue driving with a damaged tire
at speeds up to 50 mph/80 km/h.
Continueddrivingwithaflattire
If continuing to drive with a damaged tire:
1.Avoid sudden braking and steering maneuj vers.2.Do not exceed a speed of 50 mph/80 km/h.3.Check the air pressure in all four tires atthe next opportunity.
If the tire inflation pressure in all four tires
is correct, the Flat Tire Monitor may nothave been initialized. In this case, initialize
the system.
Possible driving distance with complete loss of tire inflation pressure:
The possible driving distance with a flat tire
depends on cargo load, driving style and road
conditions.
A vehicle with an average load has a possible driving range of approx. 50 miles/80 km.
A vehicle with a damaged tire reacts differj
ently, e.g., it has reduced lane stability during
braking, a longer braking distance and different
self-steering properties. Adjust your driving
style accordingly. Avoid abrupt steering maj
neuvers or driving over obstacles, e.g., curbs,
potholes, etc.
Because the possible driving distance dej
pends on how the vehicle is used during the
trip, the actual distance may be shorter or lonj
ger depending on the driving speed, road conj
ditions, external temperature, cargo load, etc.
WARNING
Your vehicle handles differently when a
run-flat tire is damaged and has low or missing
tire inflation pressure, e.g., your lane stability is
reduced when braking, braking distances are longer and the self-steering properties will
change. There is a risk of an accident.
Drive moderately and do not exceed a speed of
50 mph/80 km/h.'

IntelligentSafetyTheconcept
Intelligent Safety enables central operation of
the driver assistance system.
Depending on how the vehicle is equipped, Inj
telligent Safety consists of one or more sysj tems that can help prevent a imminent collijsion. These systems are active automaticallyevery time the engine is started using the
Start/Stop button:'yFront-end collision warning, refer to
page 113.'yPedestrian warning, refer to page 118.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sysj
tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an acj
cident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and activelyintervene in the respective situations.'

Front-endcollisionwarning
Depending on the equipment, the collision
warning system consists of one of the two sysj
tems:'yFront-end collision warning with City Brakj
ing function, refer to page 113.'yFront-end collision warning with braking
function, refer to page 115

Concept
The system can help prevent accidents. If an
accident cannot be prevented, the system will help reduce the collision speed.
The system sounds a warning before an immij
nent collision and actuates brakes independj
ently, if needed.
The automatic braking intervention is done with limited force and duration.
A camera in the area of the rearview mirror
controls the system.
The approach control warning is available even if cruise control has been deactivated.
With the vehicle approaching another vehicle
intentionally, the approach control warning and braking are delayed in order to avoid false sysj
tem reactions.
Generalinformation The system warns at two levels of an imminentdanger of collision at speeds from approx.3 mph/5 km/h. Time of warnings may vary withthe current driving situation.
Appropriate braking kicks in at speeds of up to
35 mph/60 km/h.
Detectionrange
Objects are responded to if they are detected
by the system.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sysj tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an acj cident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic
conditions. Watch traffic closely and activelyintervene in the respective situations.'

Prewarning
This warning is issued, e.g., when there is the impending danger of a collision or the distanceto the vehicle ahead is too small.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is a prewarning.
Acutewarningwithbrakingfunction
Acute warning is displayed in case of the immij nent danger of a collision when the vehicle apj
proaches another object at a high differential
speed.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is an acute warning. If necessary, the driver is
assisted by a minor automatic braking interj
vention in a possible risk of collision.

Acute warnings can also be triggered without
previous forewarning.
Brakingintervention
The warning prompts the driver himself/herself to react. During a warning, the maximum brakj
ing force is used. Prerequisite for the brake booster is sufficiently quick and hard steppingon the brake pedal. The system can assist withsome braking intervention if there is a risk of acollision. At low speeds vehicles may thus
come to a complete stop.
Manual transmission: During a braking interj
vention up to a complete stop, the engine may
be shut down.
The braking intervention is executed only if vej
hicle stability has not been restricted, e.g., by
deactivating the DSC Dynamic Stability Conj
trol.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acj
tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Observe
the limitations of the detection range and funcj tional restrictions.

Safetyinformation WARNING
The system can react incorrectly or not
at all due to the system limits. There is a risk of
accidents or risk of property damage. Observe the information regarding the system limits
and actively intervene, if needed.'

The system sounds a warning before an immij
nent collision and actuates brakes independj
ently if needed.
The automatic braking intervention is executed with limited braking force and for a brief period
only.
If the vehicle is equipped with Active Cruise
Control with Stop&Go, the front-end collision
warning is controlled via the cruise control raj
dar sensor.
The front-end collision warning is available even if cruise control has been deactivated.
With the vehicle approaching another vehicle
intentionally, the collision warning and braking
are delayed in order to avoid false system rej actions.
Generalinformation
The system issues a two-phase warning of a possible danger of collision with vehicles at
speeds above approx. 3 mph/5 km/h. Time of warnings may vary with the current driving sitjuation.
Detectionrange
Objects are responded to if they are detected
by the system.
Safetyinformation WARNING

The detection of objects can be influenced by
technical system limitations, e.g. pedestrians or stationary objects. Limitations of the detecj

Above approx. 130 mph/210 km/h the braking
intervention occurs as a brief braking pressure.
No automatic delay occurs.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acj tively moving the steering wheel.Seite 117SafetyControls117
