xDrive xDrive is the all-wheel-drive system of your vej
hicle. Concerted action by the xDrive and DSC
Dynamic Stability Control further optimizes
traction and driving dynamics. The xDrive all-
wheel-drive system variably distributes the
drive forces to the front and rear axles as dej
manded by the driving situation and road surj
face.
DynamicDampingControl
Concept
This system reduces undesirable vehicle moj tion when using a dynamic driving style or travj
eling on uneven road surfaces.
This enhances the driving dynamics and drivj
ing comfort depending on the road surface
condition and driving style.
ProgramsThe system offers several different programs.
The programs can be selected via Driving Dyj namics Control.
SPORT Consistently sporty control of the shock abj
sorbers for greater driving agility.
SPORT+ Consistently sporty control of the shock abj
sorbers for greater driving agility when driving with limited driving stabilization.COMFORT/ECOPRO
Balanced control of the vehicle.
Variablesportsteering The support offered by the variable sport
steering changes according to the angle by
which the steering wheel has been turned and
the speed.
So, for instance the steering angle of the front wheels is made larger when parking or taking
tight corners. This makes it easier to drive
around bends.
Furthermore, the system provides the steering with more support at low speeds than at higher ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance, and makes steering more direct when drivingat faster speeds.
By taking the angle by which the steering wheel has been turned and the speed into acjcount, a sporty steering response adapted tothe particular driving situation can be achieved.
Activerearspoiler
Concept
The active rear spoiler increases driving stabilj ity. The rear spoiler extends and retracts autoj
matically depending on the driving speed.
Generalinformation
When using automatic vehicle washes, ensure that the rear spoiler is retracted.
Clean the rear spoiler compartment regularly.
Observe information on automatic washing systems or vehicle washes, refer to page 265,
and caring for special components, refer to page 267.Seite 151DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsControls151

SafetyinformationNOTE
If the rear spoiler is hindered when exj
tending and retracting, it can be damaged.
There is a risk of property damage. Make sure
that the rear spoiler can move freely, e.g., keep it free of ice.'

Press and hold the button until the
rear spoiler is fully retracted and the
LED goes out.
The system is in automatic mode.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed. The rear spoiler can no longer be automatically rej
tracted, extended, or adjusted, for instance due to temporary icing.
If a malfunction occurs, DSC Dynamic Stability
Control is switched on at speeds higher than
45 mph/70 km/h.
In case of a temporary or an ongoing malfuncj tion, continue to drive at a maximum of 80 mph/130 km/h.
In case of an ongoing malfunction, have the system checked by a dealerss service center oranother qualified service center or repair shop.
DrivingDynamicsControl Concept
The Driving Dynamics Control helps to fine- tune the vehicle's settings and features. Varij
ous programs can be selected for this purpose.
The Driving Dynamics Control and the DSC
OFF buttons can each be used to activate a
program.

After the foot brake is released, the vehicle is held in place for approx. 2 seconds.
Depending on the vehicle load, the vehicle may roll back slightly.
Servotronic
Concept
Servotronic is a speed-dependent power steering function.
The system provides the steering force with
more support at low speeds than at higher ones. This makes it easier to park, for instance, and makes steering more direct when drivingat faster speeds.
Furthermore, the steering force adapts accordj ing to the driving program, so that a direct, sporty feel or a comfortable steering responseis conveyed.Seite 155DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsControls155

DrivingcomfortVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.

Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a disj
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using
the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle acj
celerates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the
set distance to the vehicle ahead is mainj
tained. The speed is adjusted as far as the
given situation allows.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respecj tive speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and
then proceeds to drive again within a brief pej
riod, the system is able to detect this within the given system limits.
Generalinformation Depending on the driving settings, the featuresof the cruise control can change in certain
areas.Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not relieve from perj
sonal responsibility to assess the traffic situaj tion. Based on the limits of the system, it canjnot independently react to all traffic situations.
There is a risk of an accident. Adjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closelyand actively intervene where appropriate.'

gaged.'yDynamic Traction Control DTC is activated
or DSC Dynamic Stability Control is deactij vated.'yIf DSC Dynamic Stability Control interj
venes.'yWhen SPORT+ is activated with Driving
Dynamics Control.'yIf the safety belt is unbuckled and the drivj
er's door is opened while the vehicle is standing still.'yIf the system has not detected objects for
an extended period, for instance on a road
with very little traffic without curb or
shoulder markings.'yIf the detection range of the radar is imj paired, for instance by dirt or heavy fog.'yAfter a stationary period of approx. 3 secj
onds when the vehicle has been braked to
a stop by the system.

to page 159.
DSC Dynamic Stability Control is switched on,
if necessary.
The speed can also be stored bypressing a button.
Press button.
Changingthespeed
Press the rocker switch up or down repeatedly
until the desired speed is set.
If active, the displayed speed is stored and the vehicle reaches the stored speed when the
road is clear.
'yEach time the rocker switch is pressed to
the point of resistance, the desired speed increases or decreases by approx.
1 mph/1 km/h.'yEach time the rocker switch is pressed
past the resistance point, the desired
speed changes by a maximum of 5 mph/
