UnlockingPress button on the remote control.
Depending on the settings, refer to page 62,
the following access points are unlocked.'yDriver's door and fuel filler flap.
Press the button of the remote control
again to unlock the other vehicle access
points.'yAll doors, tailgate, and fuel filler flap.
In addition, the following functions are exej
cuted:
'yThe settings stored in the driver profile, rej
fer to page 60, are applied.'yThe driver's seat is set to the last position
saved in the driver's profile. This function
must be activated in the settings, refer to page 62.'yThe interior lights are switched on, unless
they were manually switched off. Switch
the interior lights on/off manually, refer to
page 122.'yThe exterior lighting activated in the setj
tings, refer to page 62, is switched on.'yAutomatically folded in exterior mirrors are
folded open. This function must be actijvated in the settings.'yThe alarm system, refer to page 64, is
switched off.
The light functions may depend on the ambij
ent brightness.
Convenientopening Press and hold this button on the rejmote control after unlocking.
The windows and the glass sunroof are
opened, as long as the button on the remote
control is pressed.
Locking
1.Close the driver's door.2. Press button on the remote control.
The following functions are executed:
'yAll doors, the tailgate, and the fuel filler flap
are being locked.'yThe alarm system, refer to page 64, is
switched on.
If the engine or ignition is still switched on when you lock the vehicle, the vehicle horn
honks twice. In this case, the engine or ignition
must be switched off by means of the Start/ Stop button.
Switchingoninteriorlightsand
courtesylight
Press button on the remote control with
the vehicle locked.
This function is not available, if the interior
lights were switched off manually.
The light functions may depend on the ambij
ent brightness.
After locking, wait 10 seconds before pressing the button again.
Tailgate
Generalinformation
To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not place
the remote control in the cargo area.
Depending on your vehicle's equipment and
the country version, it is possible to specify
whether the doors are also unlocked when unj
locking with the remote control. Adjusting the
settings, refer to page 62.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operatj
ing the tailgate. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that the area of movement of the tailgateis clear during opening and closing.'

Malfunction
Generalinformation
A Check Control message is displayed.
Remote control detection by the vehicle may
malfunction under the following circumstanj
ces:'yThe battery of the remote control is disj charged. Replacing the battery, refer to
page 52.'yInterference of the radio connection from
transmission towers or other equipmentwith high transmitting power.'yShielding of the remote control due tometal objects.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with metal objects.'yInterference of the radio connection from mobile phones or other electronic devices
in direct proximity to the remote control.
Do not transport the remote control tojgether with electronic devices.'yInterference of radio transmission by a
charging process of mobile devices, for inj stance charging of a mobile phone.'yThe remote control is in direct proximity ofthe wireless charging tray.
Place the remote control down at a differj
ent location.
In the case of interference, the vehicle can be
unlocked and locked from the outside with the
integrated key, refer to page 53.
Startingtheengineviaemergency
detectionoftheremotecontrol1.Hold the remote control with its backagainst the marked area on the steering
column.2.Start the engine within 10 seconds.
If the remote control is not detected, slightly
change the position of the remote control and repeat the procedure.
Integratedkey Generalinformation
The driver's door can be locked and unlocked without remote control using the integrated
key.
The integrated key can also be used for the glove compartment on the front passengerside.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Unlocking from the inside is only possij
ble with special knowledge.
Persons who spend a lengthy time in the vehij
cle while being exposed to extreme temperaj
tures are at risk of injury or death. Do not lock the vehicle from the outside when there are
people in it.'

NOTE
The door lock is permanently joined with
the door. The door handle can be moved. When pulling the door handle with the
integrated key inserted, paint or the integrated
key can be damaged. There is a risk of damage
to property. Remove the integrated key before
pulling the outside door handle.'

'yOn the door to be opened, pull the doorhandle twice: the first time unlocks thedoor, the second time opens it. The other
doors remain locked.
ComfortAccess
Concept
The vehicle can be accessed without activatj
ing the remote control.
All you need to do is to have the remote conj
trol with you, such as in your pants pocket.
The vehicle automatically detects the remote
control when it is in close proximity or in the
vehicle's interior.
Generalinformation
Comfort Access supports the following funcj
tions:
'yUnlocking and locking the vehicle.'yConvenient closing.'yOpen the tailgate.'yOpening/closing the tailgate with no-touch activation.
Functionalrequirements
'yTo lock the vehicle, the remote controlmust be located outside of the vehicle near
the doors.'yThe next unlocking and locking cycle is not possible until after approx. 2 seconds.Unlocking
Grasp the door handle on the driver's or front
passenger door completely.
This corresponds with pressing the button

on the remote control.
Locking
Touch the surface on the door handle of thedriver's or front passenger door with your finj
ger for approx. 1 second without grasping the
door handle.
This corresponds with pressing the button

on the remote control.
Convenientclosing
Safetyinformation WARNING
With convenient closing, body parts can
be jammed. There is a risk of injury. Make sure
that the area of movement of the doors is clear
during convenient closing.'

Closing
Touch the surface on the door handle of thedriver's or front passenger door, arrow, withyour finger and hold it there without graspingthe door handle.
This corresponds with pressing and holding
the button
on the remote control.
In addition to locking, the windows and the
glass sunroof close and the exterior mirrors fold in.
Openingthetailgate
Generalinformation
To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not place the remote control in the cargo area.
If the remote control is in the sensor area, the tailgate may open or close inadvertently if youunintentionally move your foot or if something
else moves in the detection area.
The sensor has an approximate range of
5 ft/1.50 m extending from the rear of the vehij
cle.
If the tailgate is opened via Comfort Access,
locked doors are not unlocked.

The sensor has an approximate range of 5 ft/1.50 m extending from the rear of the vehij

If the tailgate is opened with no-touch activaj
tion, locked doors are not unlocked.

During no-touch activation, vehicle parts
may be touched, e.g., hot exhaust system.
There is a risk of injury. When moving your
foot, make sure you have a firm stance and do
not touch the vehicle.'

the vehicle using the buttons of the remote
control or using the integrated key, refer to

Tailgate

If the vehicle is locked, selector lever positionP must be engaged first.
With manual transmission:
With the vehicle stationary, press the
button in the driver's floor area twice in quick
succession.
If the vehicle is stationary, the tailgate opens
automatically to the adjusted opening height.
Interruptionoftheopeningprocedure
The opening procedure is interrupted in the following situations:'yWhen the vehicle starts moving.'yBy pressing the button on the outside of
the tailgate.'yBy pressing the button on the inside of the tailgate.'yBy pressing the button on the remote conj
trol.'yBy pressing the button in the driver's floor
area.
Closing
Fromtheoutside
Press the button on tailgate's exterior.
Frominsidethetailgate
Without Comfort Access:
Press button on the inside of the tailgate.
With Comfort Access:
'yPress button, arrow 1, on the inside of the
tailgate.'yPress button, arrow 2.
The vehicle will be locked after closing the
tailgate. The driver's door must be closed
for this purpose and the remote control
must be outside of the vehicle in the area
of the tailgate.
Interruptionoftheclosingprocedure
The closing procedure is interrupted in the folj
lowing situations:
'yIf the vehicle starts off with a jerky movej
ment.'yBy pressing the button on the outside of
the tailgate.'yBy pressing the button on the inside of the tailgate.
Malfunction
Safetyinformation WARNING
With manual operation of a blocked tailj
gate, it can release itself unexpectedly from
the blockage. There is a risk of injury or risk of property damage. Do not operate the tailgatemanually if it is blocked. Have it checked by a
dealerss service center or another qualified
service center or repair shop.'

To close the tailgate fully, press down lightly
only. Closing occurs automatically.
LockingseparatelyThe tailgate can be locked separately using the
switch in the glove compartment. If the glove compartment is locked, the tailgate cannot beopened.'yThe tailgate is locked, arj
row 1.'yThe tailgate is unlocked, arj
row 2.
Slide the switch into the arrow 1 position. The tailgate is secured and disconnected from the
central locking system.
This is beneficial when the vehicle is parked using a valet service. The remote control can
be handed out without the integrated key.
Trunkemergencyunlocking
Pull the handle inside the cargo area.
The tailgate is unlocked.
Driverprofile
Concept
In the driver profiles, individual settings for several drivers can be stored and called upagain when required.
Generalinformation
There are three driver profiles with which perj
sonal vehicle settings can be stored. Every rej
mote control has one of these driver profiles
assigned.
If the vehicle is unlocked using a remote conj
trol, the assigned personal driver profile will be
activated. All settings stored in the driver proj
file are automatically applied.
If several drivers use their own remote control,
the vehicle will adjust the personal settings
during unlocking. These settings are also rej
stored, if the vehicle has been used in the
meantime by a person with a different remote control.
Changes to the settings are automatically
stored in the driver profile currently activated.
If another driver profile is selected via iDrive, the settings stored in it will be applied autoj
matically. The new driver profile is assigned to
the remote control currently used.
There is an additional guest profile available
that is not assigned to any remote control. It can be used to apply settings in the vehicle
without changing the personal driver profiles.
Functionalrequirements
For the system to be able to identify the driver
profile associated to a particular driver, the dej
tected remote control must be clearly alloj
cated to the driver.
This is the case when:'yThe driver is only carrying his or her own
remote control.'yThe driver unlocks the vehicle.'yThe driver gets into the vehicle through the
driver's door.
Settings
The settings for the following systems and
functions are stored in the active profile. The
scope of storable settings depends on country
and equipment.
