Generalinformation
An interrupted cruise control can be continued
by calling up the stored speed.
Make sure that the difference between current
speed and stored speed is not too large before
calling up the stored speed. Otherwise, uninj
tentional braking or accelerating may occur.
In the following cases, the stored speed value
is deleted and cannot be called up again:'yWhen the system is switched off.'yWhen the ignition is switched off.

Detectionrange
The detection capacity of the system and the
automatic braking capacity are limited.
Two-wheeled vehicles driving ahead of you for instance might not be detected.
Deceleration The system does not decelerate when a stajtionary obstacle is located in the same lane,
e.g., a vehicle at a red traffic light or at the end
of traffic congestion.
The system also does not react in the followj
ing situations:
'yFor pedestrians or similarly slow-moving
road users.'yFor red traffic lights.'yStationary objects.'yFor cross traffic.'yFor oncoming traffic.Seite 152ControlsDrivingcomfort152

Swervingvehicles
A vehicle driving in front of you is not detecteduntil it is completely within the same lane as
your vehicle.
If a vehicle driving ahead of you suddenly
swerves into your lane, the system may not be able to automatically restore the selected disj
tance. It may not be possible to restore the sej
lected distance in certain situations, including if you are driving significantly faster than vehijcles driving ahead of you, for instance when
rapidly approaching a truck. When a vehicle
driving ahead of you is reliably detected, the
system requests that the driver intervene by
braking and carrying out evasive maneuvers, if
needed.
Unexpectedlanechange
If a vehicle ahead of you unexpectedly moves
into another lane from behind a stopped vehij
cle, you yourself must react, as the system does not react to stopped vehicles.
Cornering
If the desired speed is too high for a curve, the
speed is reduced slightly, although curves canj not be anticipated in advance. Therefore, drive
into a curve at an appropriate speed.
The system has a limited detection range. Sitj uations can arise in tight curves where a vehij
cle driving ahead will not be detected or will be
detected very late.
When you approach a curve the system may briefly report vehicles in the next lane due to
the bend of the curve. If the system decelerj
ates you may compensate it by briefly accelerj
ating.
After releasing the accelerator pedal the sysj tem is reactivated and controls speed indej
pendently.
Drivingaway In some situations, the vehicle cannot drive off
automatically; for example:
'yOn steep inclines.'yFrom bumps in the road.
In these cases, step on the accelerator pedal.

favorable weather or light conditions:'yPoorer vehicle recognition.'yShort-term interruptions for vehicles that
are already recognized.
Examples of unfavorable weather or light conj
ditions:
'yRain.'ySnowfall.'ySlush.'yFog.'yGlare.
Drive attentively, and react to the current traffic situation. If necessary, intervene actively, for
instance by braking, steering or evading.
Enginepower The desired speed is also maintained downhill, but may not be maintained on uphill grades if
engine power is insufficient.
Malfunction
The system cannot be activated if the radar
sensor is not aligned correctly. This may be
caused by damage incurred, e.g., during parkj
ing.
A Check Control message is displayed if the
system fails.
CruisecontrolTheconcept
Using this system, a desired speed can be adj
justed using the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed. The system accelerates and brakes automaticallyas needed.
Generalinformation
Depending on the driving settings, the features of the cruise control can change in certain
areas.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysj
tem, it cannot independently react to all traffic
situations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch
traffic closely and actively intervene in the rej
spective situations.'

PDCParkDistanceControl
Concept
PDC is a support when parking. When you
slowly approach an object in the rear - or also
in the front of the vehicle if the feature is availaj ble - then the object is reported through:'ySignal tones.'yVisual display.
With appropriate equipment: obstacles on theside of the vehicle that are detected by the
sensors of the parking assistant can also be rej
ported by the PDC. See side protection, refer to page 159.
Generalinformation
The ultrasound sensors for measuring the disj
tances are located in the bumpers.
The maneuvering range, depending on the obj
stacle and environmental conditions, is approx.
6 ft/2 m.
An acoustic warning is first given in the followj
ing situations:
'yBy the front sensors and the two rear corj
ner sensors at approx. 24 in/60 cm from
the object.'yBy the rear middle sensors at a distance to
the object of approx. 5 ft/1.50 m.'yWhen a collision is imminent.'yWith parking assistant: by the side sensors at approx. 24 in/60 cm from the object.Safetyinformation

WARNING
Signaltones An intermittent tone indicates when the vehijcle is approaching an object. E.g., if an object
is detected to the left rear of the vehicle, a sigj
nal tone sounds from the left rear speaker.
The shorter the distance to the object, the
shorter the intervals.
If the distance to a detected object is less than
approx. 10 inches/25 cm, a continuous tone is sounded.
With front PDC: if objects are simultaneously located both in front of and behind the vehicle, an alternating continuous signal is sounded.
The signal tone is switched off, when selector
lever position P is engaged on vehicles with Steptronic transmission.
Volume
The ratio of the PDC signal tone volume to the entertainment volume can be adjusted.

The approach of the vehicle to an object is
shown on the Control Display. Objects that are farther away are already displayed on the Conjtrol Display before a signal sounds.
A display appears as soon as Park Distance
Control (PDC) is activated.
The range of the sensors is represented in the
colors green, yellow and red.
When the image of the rearview camera is disj played, the switch can be made to PDC:
1.Move the Controller to the left, if needed.2. "Rear view camera"
Withappropriateprotection:side
protection
Concept
The system warns of obstacles on the side of
the vehicle.
Generalinformation
The system uses the ultrasound sensors of
PDC and parking assistant.
Display
To protect the sides of the vehicle, obstacle markings are displayed on the vehicle at the
sides.
'yColor markings: warning against detected
obstacles.'yGray markings, hatched area: no obstacles were detected.'yNo markings, black area: the area next to
the vehicle was not yet captured.
Limitsofsideprotection
The system only displays stationary obstaclesthat were previously detected by sensors whilepassing them.
The system does not detect whether an obstaj cle moves later on. If the vehicle is stationary,
the markings are shown in black after a certain time. The area next to the vehicle must be
newly captured.
Systemlimits
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system can react incorrectly or not
at all due to the system limits. There is a risk of
accidents or risk of property damage. Observe
the information regarding the system limits
and actively intervene, if needed.'

Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Ultrasonic measurements might not function in
the following situations:'yFor small children and animals.'yFor persons with certain clothing, e.g., coats.'yWith external interference of the ultraj
sound, e.g., from passing vehicles or loud machines.'yWhen sensors are dirty, iced over, damj
aged or out of position.'yUnder certain weather conditions such as
high relative humidity, rain, snowfall, exj
treme heat or strong wind.'yWith tow bars and trailer couplings of other vehicles.'yWith thin or wedge-shaped objects.'yWith moving objects.'yWith elevated, protruding objects such asledges or cargo.'yWith objects with corners and sharp edges.'yWith objects with a fine surface structuresuch as fences.'yFor objects with porous surfaces.'yIf cargo protrudes.'yLow objects already displayed, e.g., curbs,
can move into the blind area of the sensors
before or after a continuous tone sounds.
Falsewarnings
The system may issue a warning under the folj lowing conditions even though there is no objstacle within the detection range:
'yIn heavy rain.'yWhen sensors are very dirty or coveredwith ice.'yWhen sensors are covered in snow.'yOn rough road surfaces.'yOn uneven surfaces, such as speed
bumps.'yIn large buildings with right angles and
smooth walls, for instance in underground
garages.'yIn automatic vehicle washes.'yDue to heavy exhaust.'yDue to other ultrasound sources, for inj
stance sweeping machines, high pressure steam cleaners or neon lights.
As soon as the malfunction due to other ultraj
sound sources is no longer present, the sysj tem is again fully functional.
If necessary, switch off automatic PDC activaj tion on obstacle detection, for instance in vehij
cle washes, to reduce false alarms.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed.
The range of the sensors is shown as a shaded area on the Control Display.
PDC has failed. Have the system checked by a
dealerss service center or another qualified service center or repair shop.
