Sideview
The side view can be selected for the right or
left vehicle side.
This view helps when positioning the vehicle at the curb or with other obstacles on the side bydisplaying the side surroundings.
The side view looks from rear to front and in
case of danger, focuses automatically on posj sible obstacles.
Automaticcameraperspective
The automatic camera perspective shows a
steering-dependent view in the respective driving direction.
This perspective adapts to the respective drivj ing situation.
As soon as obstacles are detected, the view
changes to a fixed display of the area in front or
at the rear behind the bumper or, if necessary,
changes to a side view.
When reverse gear is engaged, the automatic
camera perspective is closed and the system
uses a fixed perspective of the rearview camj era. If necessary, manually select the autoj
matic camera perspective when reverse gear is engaged. The automatic camera perspective
will be retained for the current parking maneuj
ver.
Movablecameraperspective
With selection of the movable camera perj
spective, a circle appears on the Control Disj play.
By turning the controller or via touch function,
specified perspectives on the circle can be sej
lected.
The current perspective is marked with a camj era symbol.
With BMW Gesture Control: an additional camj era symbol appears on the circle. This camera
symbol is freely movable via BMW Gesture Control, refer to page 30.To leave the circle, move the controller sidej
ways and press or tap the active camera symj
bol via the touchscreen.
Rearviewcamera This view shows the picture of the rearview
camera.

ParkingaidlinesPathwaylines
Pathway lines help you to estimate the space
required when parking and maneuvering on level roads.
Pathway lines depend on the steering angle
and are continuously adjusted to the steering
wheel movements.
Turningradiuslines
Turning radius lines can only be superimposed
on the camera image together with pathway
lines.
Turning radius lines show the course of the smallest possible turning radius on a level road.
Only one turning radius line is displayed after
the steering wheel is turned past a certain anj
gle.
Parkingusingpathwayandturningradius
lines1.Position the vehicle so that the red turning radius line leads to within the limits of theparking space.2.Turn the steering wheel to the point where
the green pathway line covers the correj sponding turning radius line.
Obstaclemarking
Obstacles behind the vehicle are detected bythe PDC sensors.
Obstacle markings can be shown in the camj era image.
The colored thresholds of the obstacle markj
ings match the markings of the PDC.
Vehiclewashview
The vehicle wash view assists when entering a vehicle wash by displaying the floor and the
vehicle's own track.

SideprotectionConcept
To protect the sides of the vehicle, obstacle markings are displayed on the vehicle at the
sides.'yNo markings: no obstacles were detected.'yColor markings: warning against detected
obstacles.
Limitsofsideprotection
The system only displays stationary obstacles
that were previously detected by sensors while passing them.
The system does not detect whether an obstaj
cle moves later on. For this reason, at standj
still, the markings are not shown anymore in
the display after a certain time. The area next
to the vehicle must be newly captured.
Dooropeningangle Concept
The system indicates fixed obstacles that obj
struct the opening angles of the doors.
The system does not provide a warning of apj
proaching traffic.
Steptronic transmission: the maximum openj
ing angles of the doors are displayed in selecj
tor lever position P.
As soon as the vehicle begins moving, the
opening angles are replaced by parking aid lines.
Limitsofthedisplay
The vehicle surroundings are displayed with distorted image for technical reasons.
Even if the symbols for the door opening anj
gles do not cross other objects on the Control
Display, the following needs to be noted when
parking next to other objects:
Because of the perspective, higher, protruding objects may be closer than they appear on the
Control Display.
PanoramaView
Concept
The system provides an early look at cross
traffic at blind driveways and intersections.
Generalinformation
Road users concealed by obstacles to the left
and right of the vehicle can only be detected relatively late from the driver's seat. The camj
eras in the front and rear capture the sideways traffic area to improve the view.
Yellow lines in the screen display mark the
front and rear end of the vehicle.
The camera image shows different levels of
distortion in some areas and is thus not suitaj ble for distance estimations.

Systemlimits
Non-visibleareas
Because of the camera angle, the areas under the vehicle cannot be viewed by the cameras.
Detectionofobjects
Very low obstacles as well as high, protruding
objects such as ledges may not be detected by the system.
Assistance functions also take into account
data of the PDC.
Observe, refer to page 183, the notes in the
PDC Park Distance Control chapter.
The objects displayed on the Control Displaymay be closer than they appear. Do not estijmate the distance from the objects on the disj
play.
Malfunction A camera malfunction is displayed on the Conj
trol Display.
A yellow symbol is displayed and the

ParkingassistantConcept
The system supports parking in the following
situations:
'yWhen parking parallel to the road.'yWhen reverse parking diagonally to the
road.
Generalinformation
Handling
Parking assistant handling is divided into three steps:
'ySwitching on and activating.'yParking space search.'yParking.
System status and instructions on required acj tions are displayed on the Control Display.
Ultrasound sensors measure parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
SteptronictransmissionThe parking assistant calculates the best posj
sible parking line and takes control of the folj
lowing functions during the parking procedure:
'ySteering.'yAccelerating and braking.'yChanging the gears.
Press and hold the park assistance button for the duration of the parking procedure. Parkingis automatic.
RemoteControlParking
The vehicle can be remotely parked and driven
out, refer to page 201, in reverse if suitable
forward-parking spaces are available.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysj
tem, it cannot independently react to all traffic situations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch
traffic closely and actively intervene in the rej
spective situations.'
