The information in this chapter helps you in

OpeningandclosingVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
RemotecontrolGeneralinformation
The vehicle is supplied with two remote conj trols with integrated key.
Each remote control contains a replaceable battery. Replacing the battery, refer to
page 56.
You may set the key functions depending on the optional features and country-specific verjsion. Settings, refer to page 70.
The vehicle stores personal settings for every
remote control. Driver profile, refer to
page 68.
The remote controls hold information about rej
quired maintenance. Service data in the rej mote control, refer to page 294.
Safetyinformation WARNING
People or animals in the vehicle can lock
the doors from the inside and lock themselves
in. In this case, the vehicle cannot be opened
from the outside. There is a risk of injury. Take the remote control with you so that the vehiclecan be opened from the outside.'

Unlocking
Press button on the remote control.
Depending on the settings, refer to page 70,
the following access points are unlocked:
'yDriver's door and fuel filler flap.
Press the button of the remote control
again to unlock the other vehicle access
points.'yAll doors, tailgate, and fuel filler flap.
In addition, the following functions are exej
cuted:
'yThe settings saved in the driver profile, rej fer to page 68, are applied.'yThe interior lights are switched on, unless
they were manually switched off. Switching
the interior lights on and off manually, refer
to page 135.'yThe exterior lighting activated in the setj
tings, refer to page 132, is switched on.'yAutomatically folded in exterior mirrors are
folded open. This function must be actijvated in the settings, refer to page 132.'yWith anti-theft protection: Anti-theft proj
tection is switched off.'yThe alarm system, refer to page 72, is
switched off.
After opening the driver's door, the vehicle is
ready for operation, refer to page 20.
The light functions may depend on the ambij
ent brightness.
Convenientopening Press and hold this button on the rejmote control after unlocking.
The windows and the glass sunroof are
opened, as long as the button on the remote
control is pressed.
Locking1.Close the driver's door.2. Press button on the remote control.'yAll doors and the tailgate are locked.'yThe exterior mirrors are folded in. This
function must be activated in the settings, refer to page 70.'yWith anti-theft protection: Anti-theft proj
tection is switched on. This prevents the doors from being unlocked using the lock
buttons or the door openers.'yThe alarm system, refer to page 72, is
switched on.
If the drive-ready state is still switched on
when you lock the vehicle, the vehicle horn honks twice. In this case, the drive-ready statemust be switched off by means of the Start/Stop button.
Switchingontheinteriorandexterior
lights
Press button on the remote control with
the vehicle locked.
'yThe interior lights are switched on, unless they were manually switched off. Switching
the interior lights on and off manually, refer
to page 135.'yThe exterior lighting activated in the setj
tings, refer to page 132, is switched on.
The welcome light is only switched on
when the vehicle is being unlocked.
The light functions may depend on the ambij
ent brightness.
If the button is pressed again within 10 secj onds after vehicle was locked, the interior moj tion sensor and tilt alarm sensor of the anti-
theft warning system, refer to page 73, are

turned off. After locking, wait 10 seconds bej
fore pressing the button again.
Tailgate
Generalinformation
To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not place
the remote control in the cargo area.
Depending on the features and the country
version, it is also possible to have the doors unlocked. Adjusting the settings, refer to
page 70.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operatj
ing the tailgate. There is a risk of injury. Make
sure that the area of movement of the tailgate
is clear during opening and closing.'

AdditionalremotecontrolsAdditional remote controls are available from a
dealerss service center or another qualified service center or repair shop.
Lossoftheremotecontrols
A lost remote control can be blocked and rej
placed by a dealerss service center or another qualified service center or repair shop.
Malfunction
Generalinformation
A Check Control message, refer to page 116,
is displayed.
Remote control detection by the vehicle may malfunction under the following circumstanj
ces:'yThe battery of the remote control is disj charged. Replacing the battery, refer to
page 56.'yInterference of the radio connection from
transmission towers or other equipmentwith high transmitting power.'yShielding of the remote control due tometal objects.
Do not transport the remote control toj gether with metal objects.'yInterference of the radio connection from mobile phones or other electronic devices
in direct proximity to the remote control.
Do not transport the remote control tojgether with electronic devices.'yInterference of radio transmission by a
charging process of mobile devices, for inj stance charging of a mobile phone.'yThe remote control is in direct proximity ofthe wireless charging tray.
Place the remote control down at a differj
ent location.
In the case of interference, the vehicle can be
unlocked and locked from the outside with the
integrated key, refer to page 61.
Switchingthedrive-readystateonvia
emergencydetectionoftheremote
control1.Hold the remote control with its back against the marked area on the steering
column.2.Switch on drive-ready state within 10 secj
onds.
If the remote control is not detected, slightly
change the position of the remote control and repeat the procedure.
BMWdisplaykey
Generalinformation The BMW display key is supplied with a mej
chanical key. If the display key is used, the mej
chanical key should be carried with you, e.g., in
the wallet.
The display key supports all functions of the standard remote control.
In addition, the following functions are also available:
'yDisplay status of doors and windows.'yDisplay status of the anti-theft warning
system.'yWith parked-vehicle heating: operate
parked-vehicle heating.

Generalinformation
The display is divided into the upper status line, the information area, and the lower status
line.
UpperstatuslineThe upper status line displays the following inj
formation:'y Vehicle secured.
Vehicle not secured.
'ySet time in the vehicle.'y Charge state of the display key batj
tery.
Informationarea
The information area can be used to access injformation and perform additional functions.
If the information area contains more than one
page, then page indicators are shown beneath
the information.
The indicator for the current page has
been filled in.
Swipe to the right or left with a finger to
change between the pages.
If further information is available on a page, tap the appropriate symbol.
To return to the original page:
tap on the
symbol beneath the display.
LowerstatuslineThe lower status line indicates whether or not
the display key is within reception range, refer
to page 58.
'y"Connected": the display key is within rej
ception range.'y"Updated": the display key is not within rej ception range. It indicates when the last
data transfer from the vehicle took place.Switchingon/off
The display will go out automatically after a
brief period to conserve battery power.
To hide the display manually:
Press the button on the left side of the display
key. Overview, refer to page 58.
To show the display:1.Press the button on the left side of the disj
play key.2.Then, swipe with your finger from bottom
to top to unlock the screen lock.
To switch off the display to increase the usable
battery life:
1.Press and hold the button on the left side
of the display key for longer than 4 secj onds.2."OK"
To switch the display on:
Press the button on the left side of the display key.

Depending on the equipment, there are up to

Displaykeybattery
Generalinformation
Observe the following information:
'yIf the charge state of the display key batj tery declines, the display is switched off
automatically. The battery must be rej
charged so that the display can be
switched back on. The operability of the
standard buttons is retained until the batj
tery is completely discharged.'yCharge the battery for at least three hours
before using the display key for the first
time or if the key has not been used for an
extended period.'yThe display key can be used while it is bej ing charged. If the battery is fully disj
charged, it may take some time before the
display key can be used again.'yDue to the large number of USB chargers available on the market, it cannot be guarj
anteed that every charger will function
properly. The charging duration depends
on the charger used.'yDuring charging, the charger and the disj play key may become warm. At higher
temperatures, the display key may cause a
reduction in the charging current, and in isolated cases the charging process may
be interrupted temporarily.
Charging
'yConnect the display key via the micro-USB charging socket to a USB port.'yWith Steptronic transmission:
Place the display key into the middle of the
wireless charging tray in front of the cup holders.
Ensure that the display is facing up.
Close the tray cover.
Malfunction

A Check Control message is displayed.
BMW display key detection by the vehicle may
malfunction under the following circumstanj

'yThe battery of the display key is disj
