The braking intervention occurs only if vehicle
stability has not been restricted, for instance by deactivating the DSC Dynamic Stability Control.
The driver may cancel the braking intervention
by stepping on the accelerator pedal or by acj
tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Follow the limitations of the detection range and functionalrestrictions.

Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system can react not at all, too late, incorj
rectly, or without justification due to the system
limits. There is a risk of accidents or risk of damage to property. Follow the information rejgarding the system limits and actively interveneif needed.
Detectionrange
The detection potential of the camera is limited.
Thus, a warning might not be issued or be isjsued late.
The following situations may not be detected, for instance:
'xPartially covered pedestrians.'xPedestrians that are not detected as such bej
cause of the viewing angle or contour.'xPedestrians outside of the detection range.'xPedestrians having a body size less than 32 in/80 cm.
Functionallimitations
The system may not be fully functional or may
not be available in the following situations:
'xIn heavy fog, wet conditions, or snowfall.'xIn tight curves.'xIf the driving stability control systems are dej activated, for instance DSC OFF.'xIf the field of view of the camera or the windjshield is dirty or covered in the area of the inj
terior mirror.'xIf the camera has overheated and been temj
porarily switched off due to excessively high
temperatures.'xUp to 10 seconds after the start of the engine
via the Start/Stop button.'xDuring calibration of the camera immediately
after vehicle delivery.'xIf there are constant blinding effects because
of oncoming light, for instance from the sun low in the sky.'xWhen it is dark outside.
NightVisionwith
pedestrianandanimal detection
Concept
Night Vision with pedestrian and animal detecj
tion is a night vision system.
An infrared camera scans the area in front of the
vehicle and issues a warning if it detects pedesj trians and animals on the street. The system dej
tects warm objects that are similar in shape to
human beings or animals. If necessary, the therj
mal image can be displayed on the Control Disj
play.

Generalinformation
Thermalimage
The image shows the heat radiated by objects in
the field of view of the camera.
Warm objects have a light appearance and cold
objects a dark appearance.
The ability to detect an object depends on the temperature difference between the object and
the background and on the level of heat radiation
emitted by the object. Objects that are similar in
temperature to the environment or that radiate
very little heat are difficult to detect.
For safety reasons, when driving at speeds above approx. 3 mph/5 km/h and in low ambientlight, the image is only displayed when the low
beams are switched on.
A still image is displayed at regular intervals for a
fraction of a second.
Pedestrianandanimaldetection
Object detection and warning only functions in
darkness.
Objects whose form is similar to people with sufj
ficient heat radiation are detected.
In addition, the system also detects animals above a certain minimum size, for instance deer.
Display on the Control Display with thermal imj
age activated:'xPeople detected by the system: in light yelj low.'xAnimals detected by the system: in dark yelj
low.
Range of object detection, with good ambient
conditions:
'xPedestrian detection: up to approx.
330 ft/100 m.'xDetection of large animals: up to approx. 490 ft/150 m.'xDetection of medium animals: up to approx.230 ft/70 m.
Environmental influences can limit the availability
of object detection.
If the vehicle systems detect that the vehicle is
located in a residential area, the animal detection
is temporarily switched off.

Limitsofpedestrianandanimal
detection
In some situations, it may occur that pedestriansare detected as animals or animals as pedesjtrians.
Small animals are not detected by the object dej tection function, even if they are clearly visible inthe image.
Limited detection, for instance in the following circumstances:'xPeople or animals who are fully or partially covered, especially when their heads are covjered.'xPeople who are not in an upright position, for
instance lying down.'xCyclists on unconventional bicycles (e.g., rej cumbent bicycles).'xAfter physical damage to the system, for inj
stance after an accident.
Lanedeparturewarning
Concept
The lane departure warning alerts when the vehij
cle on roads with lane markings is about to leave
the lane.
Generalinformation This camera-based system warns starting at a
minimum speed.
The minimum speed is country-specific and is displayed in the menu for the Intelligent Safety systems.
Warnings are issued by means of a steering
wheel vibration. The severity of the steering
wheel vibration can be adjusted. The time of the
warning may vary depending on the current drivj
ing situation.
The system does not provide a warning if the
turn signal is set before leaving the lane.
Vehicles with side collision warning: if in the speed range up to 130 mph/210 km/h a lane
marking is crossed, the system intervenes with a
brief active steering intervention in addition to vij
brating. The system thus helps keep the vehicle
in the lane.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system cannot serve as a substitute for the
driverss personal judgment in assessing road and traffic safety. There is a risk of an accident.Adjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watch
traffic closely and actively intervene where apj propriate. Do not jerk the steering wheel in rej

ActiveBlindSpotDetection
Concept
Active Blind Spot Detection detects vehicles in the blind spot or vehicles approaching from bej
hind in the adjacent lane. A warning is issued in various gradations in these situations.
Generalinformation
Two radar sensors in the rear bumper monitorthe area behind and next to the vehicle when
traveling faster than a minimum speed.
The minimum speed is shown in the menu for
the Intelligent Safety systems.
The system indicates whether there are vehicles
in the blind spot, arrow 1, or approaching from
behind in the adjacent lane, arrow 2.
The light in the exterior mirror lights up dimmed.
Before you change lanes after setting the turn
signal, the system issues a warning in the situaj
tions described above.
The light in the exterior mirror flashes and the
steering wheel vibrates.
Vehicles with side collision warning: at speeds between 45 mph/70 km/h and
130 mph/210 km/h, the system can intervene
with a brief active steering intervention and help to return the vehicle into the lane.
