DTCDynamicTractionControl
Concept
DTC is a version of the DSC Dynamic Stability
Control where forward momentum is optimized.
The system ensures maximum headway on spejcial road conditions or loose road surfaces, for inj
stance unplowed snowy roads, but with somej what limited driving stability.
Generalinformation When DTC is activated, the vehicle has maxijmum traction. Driving stability is limited during
acceleration and when driving in curves.
You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC in the following situations:
'xWhen driving in slush or on uncleared, snow-covered roads.'xWhen driving off from deep snow or looseground.'xWhen driving with snow chains.

Automaticprogramchange
The system automatically switches to "DSC ON" in the following situations:'xIf Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go funcj
tion ACC is activated.'xOn a braking intervention by the Intelligent
Safety systems.'xThe vehicle has a flat tire.
xDrive
Concept
xDrive is the all-wheel-drive system of the vehij cle. The interaction of xDrive and DSC DynamicStability Control further optimizes traction and
driving dynamics. xDrive variably distributes the

driving forces to the front and rear axles as dejmanded by the driving situation and road surface.
IntegralActiveSteering
Concept Integral Active Steering is a combination of Acjtive Steering and rear axle steering.
The variable steering ratio amplifies the steering angle when maneuvering, thus making the steerj
ing more direct. The rear axle steering acts to inj
crease maneuverability at low speeds by turning the rear wheels slightly in the opposite direction
to the front wheels.
At higher speeds, the rear wheels are turned in
the same direction as the front wheels. This rej
sults in, for instance better directional stability
and a more harmonious change of direction.
In critical driving situations, the Integral Active
Steering can stabilize the vehicle through purj
poseful steering of the rear wheels before the
driver intervenes, for instance in case of overj
steering.
Generalinformation The system offers several different tunings.
DrivingmodeIntegralActiveSteeringCOMFORT
ECO PROcomfortable, for optimal travel comfortSPORTdynamic, for greater agility
The different tunings are assigned to the differj
ent driving modes of the Driving Dynamics Conj
trol, refer to page 140.
Usingsnowchains
When snow chains are in use, refer to page 314,
rear axle steering is deactivated.
Malfunction
In the event of a malfunction, the steering wheel
must be turned further, while the vehicle rej sponds more sensitively to steering wheel movej
ments in the higher speed range.
The stability-enhancing intervention may be dej
activated.
Proceed cautiously and drive defensively. Have the system checked by a dealerss servicecenter or another qualified service center or rej
pair shop.Seite 202CONTROLSDrivingstabilitycontrolsystems202

DriverassistancesystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country-spejcific and optional features offered with the series. It also describes features that are not necessarilyavailable in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selectedoptions or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Cruisecontrol
Concept
Using this system, a desired speed can be adj
justed using the buttons on the steering wheel. The system maintains the desired speed. The
system accelerates and brakes automatically as
needed.
GeneralinformationDepending on the vehicle setting, the cruise
control characteristic can change in certain ranges. For instance, the acceleration in ECOPRO driving mode is more gentle.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system cannot serve as a substitute for the driverss personal judgment in assessing the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysj tem, it cannot independently react to all trafficsituations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic
closely and actively intervene where approprij
ate.
WARNING
The use of the system can lead to an increased risk of accidents in the following situations,
for instance:
'xOn winding roads.'xIn heavy traffic.'xOn slippery roads, in fog, snow, or wet conditions, or on a loose road surface.
There is a risk of accidents or risk of damage to
property. Only use the system if driving at conj
stant speed is possible.
WARNING
The desired speed can be incorrectly adjusted
or called up by mistake. There is a risk of an acj cident. Adjust the desired speed to the trafficconditions. Watch traffic closely and actively injtervene where appropriate.

The system maintains the desired speed onclear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle accelerj
ates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the set
distance to the vehicle ahead is maintained. The speed is adjusted as far as the given situation alj
lows.
Generalinformation A radar sensor is located in the front bumper and
a camera on the interior mirror to detect vehicles driving ahead of you.
Depending on the vehicle setting, the cruise
control characteristic can change in certain
ranges. For instance, the acceleration in ECO
PRO driving mode is more gentle.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respective speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and then proceeds to drive again within a brief period, the system is able to detect this within the givensystem limits.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system cannot serve as a substitute for the driverss personal judgment in assessing the traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysjtem, it cannot independently react to all trafficsituations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively intervene where approprij
ate.
WARNING
An unsecured vehicle can begin to move and
possibly roll away. There is a risk of an accident.
Before exiting, secure the vehicle against rollj
ing.
In order to ensure that the vehicle is secured against rolling away, follow the following:'xSet the parking brake.'xOn uphill grades or on a downhill slope,
turn the front wheels in the direction of the
curb.'xOn uphill grades or on a downhill slope,
also secure the vehicle, for instance with a
wheel chock.
WARNING
The desired speed can be incorrectly adjusted
or called up by mistake. There is a risk of an acj
cident. Adjust the desired speed to the traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively inj
tervene where appropriate.
WARNING
Risk of accident due to too high speed differenj
ces to other vehicles, for instance in the followj
ing situations:
'xWhen fast approaching a slowly moving vehicle.'xVehicle suddenly swerving into own lane.'xWhen fast approaching standing vehicles.
There is a risk of injuries or danger to life.
Watch traffic closely and actively intervene
where appropriate.
