Snowchains
Safetyinformation
WARNING
With the mounting of snow chains on unsuitaj ble tires, the snow chains can come into conj
tact with vehicle parts. There is a risk of accij
dents or risk of damage to property. Only
mount snow chains on tires that are designated
by their manufacturer as suitable for the use of
snow chains.
WARNING
Insufficiently tight snow chains may damage tires and vehicle components. There is a risk of
accidents or risk of damage to property. Make
sure that the snow chains are always suffij
ciently tight. Re-tighten as needed according to
the snow chain manufacturer's instructions.
Fine-linksnowchains
The manufacturer of your vehicle recommendsuse of fine-link snow chains. Certain types of
fine-link snow chains have been tested by the manufacturer of the vehicle and recommendedas road-safe and suitable.
Information regarding suitable snow chains is
available from a dealerss service center or anj other qualified service center or repair shop.

TirePressureMonitorTPM
Concept
The system monitors tire inflation pressure in the
four mounted tires. The system warns you if there is a loss of pressure in one or more tires.
GeneralinformationSensors in the tire valves measure the tire inflaj
tion pressure and tire temperature.
Using the tire settings in iDrive, the system can
automatically display the specified target presj
sures and compare them with the actual tire inj
flation pressures.
If tires are being used that are not specified on the tire inflation pressure details on the vehicle,
refer to page 298, such as tires with special apj
proval, the system needs to be actively reset. The system will then take over the actual tire injflation pressures as the target pressures.
When operating the system, also note the addij
tional information found in the Tire inflation presj sure, refer to page 298, chapter.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The display of the target pressures is not a
substitute for the tire inflation pressure details
on the vehicle. Incorrect entries in the tire setj
tings can lead to incorrect target tire inflation
pressure values. In this case, it cannot be guarj
anteed that the notification of a loss of tire inflaj
tion pressure will be reliable. There is a risk of
injury and risk of damage to property. Ensure

that the tire sizes of the mounted tires are enjtered correctly and match the details on the
tires and on the vehicle.
Functionalrequirements The following conditions must be met for the
system; otherwise, reliable flagging of a loss of tire inflation pressure is not assured:'xEvery time a tire or wheel is changed, the
correct details on the mounted tires must be entered in the tire settings, refer to
page 315.'xFor tires with special approval:'xAfter a tire or wheel replacement, a reset
was performed with the correct tire inflaj
tion pressure.'xAfter the tire inflation pressure was adj
justed to a new value, a reset was perj formed.'xWheels with TPM wheel electronics.
Tiresettings
Generalinformation The tire sizes of the mounted tires can be gathj
ered from the tire inflation pressure details on the vehicle, refer to page 298, or directly on the tires.
The tire details do not need to be re-entered when the tire inflation pressure is corrected.
For summer and winter tires, the tire details enj

The specified target pressures take the influence of driving operation and external temperature on the tire temperature into account. The approprijate target pressure is always displayed, indejpendent of the weather situation, tire temperajtures and driving times.
The displayed target pressure may change and
may differ from the tire inflation pressure details on the door pillar of the driver's door. The tire injflation pressure can thus be corrected to thevalue of the displayed target pressures.
The target pressure is immediately adjusted if
the vehicle load is changed in the tire settings.

perform the reset.
If tire damage cannot be found, contact a
dealerss service center or another qualified
service center or repair shop.2.Repair the flat tire, e.g., with a flat tire kit or by changing the wheel.
Use of sealant, for instance from the flat tire kit,may damage the TPM wheel electronics. Have
the electronics replaced at the next opportunity.
Run-flattires
Safetyinformation
WARNING
Your vehicle handles differently with a run-flat with no or low inflation pressure; for instance, your lane stability when braking is reduced, braking distances are longer and the self-steerjing properties will change. There is a risk of an
accident.
Drive moderately and do not exceed a speed of 50 mph/80 km/h.
Maximumspeed
You may continue driving with a damaged tire at speeds up to 50 mph/80 km/h.
Continueddrivingwithaflattire
Follow the following when continuing to drive
with a damaged tire:
1.Avoid sudden braking and steering maneuj
vers.2.Do not exceed a speed of 50 mph/80 km/h.3.Check the tire inflation pressure in all four
tires at the next opportunity.
For tires with special approval: if the tire inflaj

Possibledrivingrangewitha
depressurizedtire
The distance for which it may be possible to
drive safely varies depending on how the vehicle
is loaded and used, e.g., speed, road conditions,
external temperature. The driving range may be
less but may also be more if an economical drivj ing style is used.
If the vehicle is loaded with an average weight
and used under favorable conditions, the disj

Vehiclehandlingwithdamagedtires
Vehicles driven with a damaged tire will handle differently, potentially leading to conditions suchas the following:'xGreater likelihood of swerving off course.'xLonger braking distances.'xChanged self-steering properties.
Modify your driving style. Avoid abrupt steeringmaneuvers or driving over obstacles, for instancecurbs or potholes.
Finaltirefailure
Vibrations or loud noises while driving can indij cate the final failure of a tire.
Reduce speed and stop; otherwise, pieces of the
tire could come loose and cause an accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact a dealerss servj
ice center or another qualified service center or repair shop.
Systemlimits
Temperature
The tire inflation pressure depends on the tire's
temperature.
Driving or exposure to the sun will increase the
tire's temperature, thus increasing the tire inflaj
tion pressure.
The tire inflation pressure is reduced when the tire temperature falls again.
These circumstances may cause a warning
when temperatures fall very sharply.
Following a temperature-related warning, the tarj
get pressures are displayed on the Control Disj play again after a short distance.
Suddentirepressureloss
The system cannot indicate sudden serious tire
damage caused by external circumstances.
