It is not possible to switch on the drive-ready
state if the remote control has not been dej tected.
Proceed as follows in this case:
1.Hold the remote control with its back against
the marked area on the steering column. Pay attention to the display in the instrumentcluster.2.If the remote control is detected:
Switch on drive-ready state within 10 secj
onds.
If the remote control is not detected, slightly
change the position of the remote control and rej
peat the procedure.
BMWdisplaykey
Generalinformation The BMW display key is supplied with an addij
tional mechanical key. If the display key is used, the mechanical key should be carried with you,for instance in the wallet.
The display key supports all functions of the
standard remote control.
In addition, the following functions are also availj
able:
'xDisplay status of doors and windows.'xDisplay status of the anti-theft warning sysj
tem.'xDisplay service information.'xCall up range with available fuel.'xWith parked-car heating: operate parked-car heating.

WARNING
People or animals in the vehicle can lock the
doors from the inside and lock themselves in. In this case, the vehicle cannot be opened from
the outside. There is a risk of injury. Take the remote control with you so that the vehicle can
be opened from the outside.

For some country versions, unlocking from the inside is only possible with special knowledge.
Persons who spend a lengthy time in the vehij
cle while being exposed to extreme temperaj
tures are at risk of injury or death. Do not lock
the vehicle from the outside when there are
people in it.

The number of available display key functions depends on the distance from the vehicle.
'xWhen you are in close proximity to the vehijcle, all functions of the display key are availajble.'xThe status information can be called up in the
extended reception range.
With parked-car heating: the parked-car heatj ing can be operated.
Without parked-car heating: the parked-car
ventilation can be operated.'xOutside of the reception range of the vehicle, you can display the last transmitted status injformation from the vehicle.
The symbol is shown on the display if one of
the buttons is pressed outside of the reception
range.
Display Generalinformation
The display is divided into the upper status line,
the information area, and the lower status line.
Upperstatusline The upper status line displays the following inforjmation:
'x Vehicle secured.
Vehicle not secured.
'xSet time in the vehicle.'x Charge state of the display key battery.
Informationarea
The information area can be used to access inj
formation and perform additional functions.
If the information area contains more than one
page, then page indicators are shown beneath the information.
The indicator for the current page has
been filled in.
Swipe to the right or left with a finger to change between the pages.
If further information is available on a page, tap the appropriate symbol.
To return to the original page:
tap on the
symbol beneath the display.
Lowerstatusline The lower status line indicates whether or notthe display key is within reception range, refer topage 83.

Switchingon/off
The display will go out automatically after a brief
period to conserve battery power.
To hide the display manually:

play key.2.Then, swipe with your finger from bottom to top to unlock the screen lock.
To switch off the display to increase the usablebattery life:

The integrated key also fits the glove compartjment.

the outside door handle.

integrated key, arrow 2.

Locking/unlockingviathedoor
lock1.Pull and hold the door handle outward with one hand.2.Guide one finger of your other hand from theback under the cover, feel for the releasethere, and press it outward.3.Remove the cover.4.Unlock or lock the door lock using the
integrated key.
The other doors must be unlocked or locked from the inside.
AlarmsystemThe alarm system is not switched on if the vehijcle is locked with the integrated key.
The alarm system is triggered when the door isopened, if the vehicle has been unlocked via the
door lock.
In order to stop the alarm, unlock the vehicle with
the remote control, if necessary through emerj
gency detection of the remote control, refer to
page 81.
Buttonsforthecentral lockingsystem
Generalinformation In the event of a severe accident, the vehicle isautomatically unlocked. The hazard warning sysj

Concept
The vehicle can be accessed without activating
the remote control.
All you need to do is to have the remote control
with you, such as in your pants pocket.
The vehicle automatically detects the remote
control when it is in close proximity or in the car's
interior.
Generalinformation Comfort Access supports the following funcj
tions:
'xUnlocking and locking the vehicle.'xConvenient closing.'xOpening tailgate.'xOpen tailgate with no-touch activation.
With automatic tailgate operation: open andclose the tailgate with no-touch activation.

be located outside of the vehicle near the
doors.'xThe next unlocking and locking cycle is not

Close the driver's door.
Touch the grooved surface on the handle of a closed vehicle door with your finger for approx.1 second without grasping the door handle.

Closing
Touch the grooved surface on the handle of aclosed vehicle door with your finger and hold itthere without grasping the door handle.
This corresponds to pressing and holding the button
on the remote control.
In addition to locking, the windows and glass sunroof will be closed.
Opentailgate Generalinformation
If you open the tailgate via Comfort Access,
locked doors will not be unlocked.
To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not place the
remote control in the cargo area.

Concept
The tailgate can be opened with no-touch activaj tion using the remote control you are carrying. With automatic tailgate operation, it can also be
closed with no-touch activation. Two sensors detect a forward-directed foot motion in the cenjtral rear area and the tailgate is opened or closed.
Generalinformation To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not place the
remote control in the cargo area.
If the remote control is in the sensor area, the tailgate can be opened or closed inadvertently by
an unconscious or alleged recognized foot
movement.
The sensor has an approximate range of
5 ft/1.50 m extending from the rear of the vehij
cle.
If you open the tailgate with no-touch activation,
locked doors will not be unlocked.

1.Stand in the middle behind the vehicle at apjprox. one arm's length away from the rear of
the vehicle.2.Wave a foot under the vehicle in the direction
of travel and immediately pull it back. With
this movement, the leg must pass through
the ranges of both sensors.Opening
Perform the foot movement described earlier.
Before the trunk lid opens, the hazard warning system flashes.
Moving your foot again will stop the opening moj tion, and moving it one more time after that will close the trunk lid.
Closing The tailgate can only be closed with no-touchactivation if automatic tailgate operation is active.
