This chapter describes all standard, country-spejcific and optional features offered with the series. It also describes features that are not necessarilyavailable in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selectedoptions or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Anti-lockBrakingSystem ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during brakjing.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing acjtive safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the enj gine.
Brakeassistant
When you apply the brakes rapidly, this system
automatically boosts the vehicle braking capabilj
ity to the furthest possible extent. It reduces the
braking distance to a minimum during emerj gency stop. This system utilizes all of the capajbilities provided by the Antilock Brake SystemABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.
Adaptivebrakeassistant
In combination with Active Cruise Control, this
system ensures that the brakes respond even more rapidly when braking in critical situations.

and driving dynamics. The xDrive all-wheel-drive
system variably distributes the drive forces to the
front and rear axles as demanded by the driving
situation and road surface.
HDCHillDescentControl
Concept
HDC is a downhill driving assistant that automatij cally controls vehicle speed on steep downhillgradients. Without applying the brakes, the vehijcle moves at slightly more than walking speed. Itthe brakes are actively applied, the system disjtributes force according to the traction.
Vehicle stability and maneuverability are imj
proved on downhill gradients.
Hill Descent Control can be activated at speeds below approx. 22 mph/35 km/h. When driving
downhill, the vehicle reduces its speed and then
keeps its speed constant.
Only use HDC in low gears or in selector lever
position D or R.

IntegralActiveSteering
Concept
Integral Active Steering is a combination of Acj tive Steering and rear axle steering.
Active Steering varies the steering angle of the
wheels in relation to the steering wheel movej
ment as a function of the speed.
At speeds up to approx. 37 mph/60 km/h, for inj stance in curves, the steering angle is increased,
i.e., steering becomes more direct.
The rear axle steering acts to increase maneuj
verability by turning the rear wheels slightly in a direction opposite to the front wheels.
At higher speeds, the steering angle is increasjingly reduced.
The rear wheels are turned to the same angle as
the front wheels.
In critical situations, Integral Active Steering can specifically steer the front and rear wheels to stajbilize the vehicle before the driver intervenes, for
instance when braking where road conditions difj fer on the left and right sides of the vehicle.
Initializing
In rare cases, it may become necessary to initialj
ize the Integral Active Steering.
The warning light lights up. A Check
Control message is displayed.1.With the engine running, turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and right severaltimes in a uniform manner until the warninglight disappears.2.Have the system checked if the warning lightdoes not go out after moving the steeringwheel approx. 6 times or if the steering wheel
is at an angle.

ActiveCruiseControlwith Stop&GofunctionACC
Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a disj
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using
the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on
clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle accelerj
ates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle so that the set
distance to the vehicle ahead is maintained. The speed is adjusted as far as the given situation alj
lows.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respective
speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and then proceeds to drive again within a brief period,
the system is able to detect this within the given
system limits.
Generalinformation Depending on the driving settings, the features
of the cruise control can change in certain areas.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system cannot serve as a substitute for the
driverss personal judgment in assessing the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sysj tem, it cannot independently react to all trafficsituations. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust
driving style to traffic conditions. Watch traffic
closely and actively intervene where approprij
ate.
WARNING
An unsecured vehicle can begin to move and
possibly roll away. There is a risk of an accident.
Before exiting, secure the vehicle against rollj
ing.
In order to ensure that the vehicle is secured against rolling away, follow the following:
'xSet the parking brake.'xOn uphill grades or on a downhill slope,
