on/off
automaticallyThe Control Display is switched on automaticallyafter unlocking.
In certain situations, the Control Display is
switched off automatically, for instance if no opj
eration is performed on the vehicle for several
minutes.

Press the Controller or any button on the Conjtroller to switch it back on again.

The buttons can be used to open the menus dij

Changing
between
displays
After a menu item is selected, for instance "Radio", a new display appears. Displays can
overlap.
'xMove the Controller to the left.
Closes the current display and shows the previous display.
Reopens previous display by pressing BACK
button. In this case, the current display is not closed.'xMove the Controller to the right.
Opens a new display on top of the previous
screen.
White arrows pointing to the left or right indicate
that additional displays can be opened.

The "Options" menu is displayed.
Additional options: move the Controller to the
right repeatedly until the "Options" menu is disj played.

Entering
letters
and
numbers
Entering letters requires some practice at the bej
ginning. When entering, pay attention to the folj
lowing:
'xThe system distinguishes between upper
and lower-case letters and numbers. To
make entries, it may be necessary to change between upper and lower-case letters, numj
bers and characters, refer to page 46.'xEnter characters as they are displayed on the
Control Display.'xAlways enter associated characters, such as
accents or periods so that the letter can be
clearly recognized. The set language deterj
mines what input is possible. Where necesj
sary, enter special characters via the Controlj ler.'xTo delete a character, swipe to the left on the
touchpad.'xTo enter a blank space, swipe to the right in the center of the touchpad.'xTo enter a hyphen, swipe to the right in theupper area of the touchpad.'xTo enter an underscore, swipe to the right in
the lower area of the touchpad.

information The iDrive functions can be stored on the proj
grammable memory buttons and called up dij rectly, for instance radio stations, navigation desjtinations, phone numbers and menu entries.
Settings are stored for the profile currently used.
Storing
a
function
1.Highlight the function via iDrive.2. Press and hold the desired button,
until a signal sounds.
Running
a
function
Press button.
The function will work immediately. This
means, for instance that the number is dialed
when a phone number is selected.
Displaying
the
key
assignment
Touch buttons with finger. Do not wear gloves or use objects.
The button assignment is displayed at the top edge of screen.
Deleting
the
button
assignments

Deleting
personal
data
in
the
vehicle
Concept
Depending on the usage, the vehicle stores perj
sonal data, such as stored radio stations. This
personal data can be permanently deleted using iDrive.

Depending on the equipment package, the folj
lowing data can be deleted:'xPersonal Profile settings.'xStored radio stations.'xStored programmable memory buttons.'xTravel and Onboard Computer information.'xMusic collection.'xNavigation, for instance stored destinations.'xPhone book.'xOnline data, for instance Favorites, cookies.'xVoice notes.'xLogin accounts.
Altogether, the deletion of the data can take up to 30 minutes.

Most functions displayed on the Control Display
can be operated by voice commands via the
voice activation system. The system supports
you with announcements during input.

Activate voice command response on the smartjphone for this purpose.1.Press and hold the button on the
steering wheel for approx. 3 seconds.
Voice command response is activated on the smartphone.2.Release the button.
If activation is successful, a confirmation apj
pears on the Control Display.
If it was not possible to activate voice command
response, the list of Bluetooth devices appears
on the Control Display.

Do not use the voice activation system to initiate an Emergency Request. In stressful situations,
the voice and vocal pitch can change. This can
unnecessarily delay the establishment of a
phone connection.
