Activating
SPORT+ Press button repeatedly until SPORT+
appears in the instrument cluster and
the DSC OFF indicator light lights up.
Automatic
program
change When switching on the manual speed limiter or
activating cruise control, the program automatj ically switches to SPORT mode.

When the display is activated on the Control
Display, refer to page 142, the SPORT driving
mode can be set.
After the SPORT driving mode is activated, sej lect "Configure SPORT" on the displayed panel and configure the program.
SPORT can also be configured before it is actij
vated.
Using iDrive:1."Settings"2."SPORT mode" or: "Driving mode"3.Configure driving mode.
The configuration is stored for the profile curj rently used.
This configuration is retrieved when the SPORT driving mode is activated.
COMFORT

This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.

Concept
Using this system, a desired speed and a disj
tance to a vehicle ahead can be adjusted using the buttons on the steering wheel.
The system maintains the desired speed on clear roads. For this purpose, the vehicle acj
celerates or brakes automatically.
If a vehicle is driving ahead of you, the system
adjusts the speed of your vehicle within the
given system limits so that the set distance to
the vehicle ahead is maintained.
The distance can be adjusted in several steps.
For safety reasons, it depends on the respecj tive speed.
If the vehicle ahead of you brakes to a halt, and
then proceeds to drive again within a brief pej
riod, the system is able to detect this within the given system limits.

Depending on the driving settings, the features of the cruise control can change in certain
areas.Safety

automatically
The system is automatically interrupted in the following situations:
'yWhen the driver applies the brakes.'yWhen selector lever position D is disenj
gaged.'yWhen DTC is activated or DSC is deactij
vated.'yWhen DSC is actively controlling stability.'yWhen SPORT+ is activated with Driving
Dynamics Control.'yIf the safety belt is unbuckled and the drivj
er's door is opened while the vehicle is standing still.'yIf the system has not detected objects for
an extended period, for instance on a road
with very little traffic without curb or
shoulder markings.'yIf the detection range of the radar is imj paired, for instance by dirt or heavy fog.'yAfter a longer stationary period when the
vehicle has been braked to a stop by the system.Setting

Maintaining/storing
the
speed
Press the rocker switch while the system is inj terrupted.
When the system is switched on, the current
speed is maintained and stored as the desired
speed.
The stored speed is displayed in the speedomj
eter and briefly in the instrument cluster, refer
to page 146.
DSC will be switched on, if needed.
The speed can also be stored bypressing a button.

Changing
the
speed
Press the rocker switch up or down repeatedly
until the desired speed is set.
If active, the displayed speed is stored and the vehicle reaches the stored speed when the
road is clear.

The conditions are not adequate for
the system to work.
The system was deactivated but applies the
brakes until you actively resume control by
pressing on the brake pedal or accelerator
pedal.
Symbol flashes red and a signal

You are requested to intervene by
braking or make an evasive maneuver.

Display Some system information can also be disjplayed in the Head-up Display.
Distance
information The symbol is displayed when the disj
tance from the vehicle traveling ahead
is too short.
The distance information is active under the following circumstances:'yActive Cruise Control switched off.'yDisplay in the Head-up Display selected,refer to page 99.'yDistance too short.'ySpeed greater than approx.
40 mph/70 km/h.

Detection
range
The detection capacity of the system and the
automatic braking capacity are limited.
Two-wheeled vehicles for instance might not
be detected.

Deceleration
The system also does not decelerate in the folj lowing situations:'yFor pedestrians or similarly slow-moving
road users.'yFor red traffic lights.'yFor cross traffic.'yFor oncoming traffic.
Swerving
vehicles
A vehicle driving in front of you is not detected until it is completely within the same lane as
your vehicle.
If a vehicle driving ahead of you suddenly
swerves into your lane, the system may not be able to automatically restore the selected disj
tance. This also applies to major speed differj
ences to vehicles driving ahead of you, e.g., when rapidly approaching a truck. When a vej
hicle driving ahead of you is reliably detected,
the system requests that the driver intervene
by braking and carrying out evasive maneuj
vers, if needed.
Cornering
If the desired speed is too high for a curve, the
speed is reduced slightly, although curves canj not be anticipated in advance. Therefore, drive
into a curve at an appropriate speed.
In tight curves the system offers only restricted
detection where a vehicle ahead of you might
be detected late or not at all.
When you approach a curve the system may briefly report vehicles in the next lane due to
the bend of the curve. If the system decelerj
ates you may compensate it by briefly accelerj
ating.
After releasing the accelerator pedal the sysj tem is reactivated and controls speed indej
pendently.
Driving
away In some situations, the vehicle cannot drive off
automatically; for example:
'yOn steep inclines.'yFrom bumps in the road.
In these cases, step on the accelerator pedal.

Weather
In the event of unfavorable weather and light
conditions, e.g., if there is rain, snowfall, slush, fog or glare, this may result in poorer recognijtion of vehicles as well as short-term interrupj
tions for vehicles that are already detected. Drive attentively, and react to the current trafficsituation. If necessary, intervene actively, e.g.,by braking, steering or evading.
Engine
powerThe desired speed is also maintained downhill,but may not be maintained on uphill grades if
engine power is insufficient.
Malfunction
The system cannot be activated if the radar
sensor is not aligned correctly. This may be
caused by damage incurred, e.g., during parkj
ing.
A Check Control message is displayed if the system fails.
The function for detecting and responding when approaching stationary vehicles may be limited in the following situations:'yDuring calibration of the camera immedijately after vehicle delivery.'yIf the camera is malfunctioning or dirty. ACheck Control message is displayed.
