Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if needed,
by using the maximum cooling or heating caj
pacity, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temj
perature settings. Otherwise, the automatic clij
mate control will not have sufficient time to adj
just the set temperature.
Airconditioning
Concept
The air in the vehicle's interior will be cooled and dehumidified and, depending on the temj
perature setting, warmed again.
The vehicle's interior can only be cooled with
the engine running.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Air conditioning is switched on or off.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when the enj
gine is started.
The cooling function is switched on automatij
cally with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water, refer to page 186, develj
ops and drains underneath the vehicle. This is
normal.
Maximumcooling Concept
The system is set to the lowest temperature,
optimum air flow and recirculated-air mode.
Generalinformation
The function is available above an external temperature of approx. 32

AUTOprogram
Concept
Depending on the selected temperature, the
intensity of the AUTO program, and outside inj fluences, the air is directed to the windshield, side windows, upper body, and into the floor
area.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Air flow, air distribution and temperaj
ture are controlled automatically.
The cooling function, refer to page 166, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO proj gram.
At the same time, a condensation sensor conj
trols the program so as to prevent window
condensation as much as possible.
Intensity
With the AUTO program activated, the autoj
matic intensity control can be changed.
Press the left or right side of the butj
ton: decrease or increase intensity.
The selected intensity is shown on the display
of the automatic climate control.
Automaticrecirculated-aircontrol/recirculated-airmode
Concept
The automatic recirculated-air control AUC detects odors or pollutants in the outside air.The outside air supply is shut off and the intej
rior air is recirculated.
Generalinformation
If the system is activated, a sensor detects polj
lutants in the outside air and controls the shut-
off automatically. If the system is deactivated, outside air continj uously flows into the vehicle's interior.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the vehicle's interior deteriorates and the fogging of the windows increases.
Switchingon/off Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:'yLEDs off: outside air flows in continuously.'yLeft LED on, automatic recirculated-air
control: a sensor detects pollutants in the
outside air and shuts off automatically.'yRight LED on, recirculated-air mode: the
supply of outside air into the vehicle is perj manently blocked.
If the windows are fogged over, switch off the
recirculated-air mode and press the AUTO
button on the driver's side to utilize the conj densation sensor. Make sure that air can flow
to the windshield.
Controllingtheairflowmanually Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted manually.
Generalinformation
To manually adjust air flow turn off AUTO proj
gram first.
Operation Press the left or right side of the butj
ton: decrease or increase air flow.
The selected air flow is shown on the display of the automatic climate control.
The air flow of the automatic climate control
may be reduced automatically to save battery power.

Controllingtheairdistribution
manually
Concept
The air distribution for climate control can be
adjusted manually.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select a
program:'yUpper body region.'yUpper body region and floor area.'yFloor area.'yWindows and floor area.'yWindows, upper body region, and floor
area.'yWindows: driver's side only.'yWindows and upper body region.
If the windows are fogged over, press the AUTO button on the driver's side to utilize the
condensation sensor.
SYNCprogram
Concept
The system enables the transfer of current
settings on the driver's side for temperature, air flow, air distribution, and the AUTO proj
gram to the front passenger side and to the left and right rear.
Switchingon/off Press button.
Current settings on the driver's side
for the temperature, air flow, air distribution,
and AUTO program are transferred to the front
passenger side.
The program is switched off if the settings on the front passenger side are changed.
Residualheat
The heat stored in the engine is used to heat
the interior. This is possible up to 15 minutes after switching off the engine.
Functionalrequirement'yWarm engine.'yThe battery is sufficiently charged.'yExternal temperature below 77

For this purpose, point the side vents towardsthe side windows as needed.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow
active.
If the windows are fogged over, you can also
switch on the cooling function or press the AUTO button to utilize the condensation senj
sor.
Rearwindowdefroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches
off automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated-charcoalfilter
The microfilter removes dust and pollen from the incoming air.
The activated-charcoal filter removes gaseous pollutants from the outside air that enters the
vehicle.
Have this combined filter changed during vehij
cle maintenance, refer to page 230.
Ventilation Frontventilation'yThumbwheel to vary the ventilation temjperature, arrow 1.
Toward blue: colder.
Toward red: warmer. This does not change the set interior temj perature for the driver and front passenger.'yLever for changing the air flow direction,
arrow 2.'yThumbwheels for opening and closing the
vents continuously, arrows 3.
Settings
'yVentilation for cooling:
Direct vent in your direction when vehicle's interior is too hot.'yDraft-free ventilation:
Adjust the vent to let the air flow past you.
Parked-vehicleventilation
Concept
The parked-vehicle ventilation ventilates the
vehicle interior and lowers its temperature, if needed.
Generalinformation The parked-vehicle ventilation system is operj
ated via iDrive.
Functionalrequirements
Parked-carventilation
'yUsing the preset activation time or when operated directly: any external temperaj
ture.'yBattery is sufficiently charged.
If parked-car ventilation is switched on, the vehicle battery will be discharged. Thus,
limit the maximum activation time to save
the vehicle battery. The system will be available again after engine starting and/ora short trip.'yMake sure that the vehicle's date and time
are set correctly.
Open the vents to allow air to flow out.
