into the driver's field of vision, e.g., the speed.
The driver can get information without averting
his or her eyes from the road.

If the image is distorted, have the basic set#j tings checked by a dealer#ss service center or
another qualified service center or repair shop.
Specialwindshield
The windshield is part of the system.
The shape of the windshield makes it possibleto display a precise image.
A film in the windshield prevents double im#j ages from being generated.
For this reason, it is strongly suggested to have the special windshield replaced by a deal#j
er#ss service center or another qualified service center or repair shop, if necessary.

LightsVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.

For example, the sensors are unable to detect
fog or hazy weather. To avoid safety risks un#j der these conditions, you should always switch
on the lights manually.
Daytimerunninglights
Generalinformation In some countries, daytime running lights aremandatory, so it may not be possible to switchthe daytime running lights off.
Switchingon/off Position of switch:

AdaptiveLightControl Concept
Adaptive Light Control is a variable headlamp
control system that enables dynamic illumina#j
tion of the road surface.
Generalinformation
Depending on the steering angle and other pa#j rameters, the light from the headlight follows
the course of the road.
To avoid blinding oncoming traffic, the Adap#j
tive Light Control does not swivel to the driv#j
er's side when the vehicle is at a standstill.
Depending on the equipment version, Adap#j
tive Light Control consists of one or several systems:'yCornering light, refer to page 136.'yAdaptive headlight range control, refer to
page 136.
Activating
Position of switch:

The Adaptive Light Control is active, when the
drive-ready state is switched on.
Corner-illuminatinglights In tight curves, e.g., on mountainous roads or
when turning, an additional, corner-illuminating
lamp is switched on that lights up the inside of the curve when the vehicle is moving below acertain speed.
The turning lights are automatically switched on depending on the steering angle or the use of turn signals.
When driving in reverse, the turning lights may be automatically switched on regardless of the steering angle.
Self-levelingheadlights
The self-leveling headlights compensate for
acceleration and braking operations in order not to blind the oncoming traffic and to achieveoptimum illumination of the roadway.
High-beamAssistant
Concept
The high-beam Assistant detects other traffic participants early on and automaticallyswitches the high beams on or off depending
on the traffic situation.
Seite 136ControlsLights136

Generalinformation
The high-beam Assistant ensures that the high beams are switched on, whenever the traffic
situation allows. In the low speed range, the high beams are not switched on by the system.
The system responds to light from oncoming
traffic and traffic driving ahead of you, and to
adequate illumination, e.g., in towns and cities.
The driver can intervene at any time and switch
the high beams on and off as usual.
Activating
Position of switch:
Press and hold button on signal lever.
The indicator lamp in the instrumentcluster is illuminated when the low
beams are switched on.
The high beams are switched on and off auto#j
matically.
The blue indicator lamp in the instru#j
ment cluster lights up when the system
switches on the high beams.
Deactivating The high-beam Assistant is deactivated when
manually switching the high beams on and off, refer to page 108.
To reactivate the high-beam Assistant, press
the button on the turn signal lever.
Systemlimits
The high-beam Assistant cannot serve as a
substitute for the driver's personal judgment of
when to use the high beams. In situation that
require this, therefore switch off manually.
The system is not fully functional in the follow#j
ing situations, and driver intervention may be
necessary:'yIn very unfavorable weather conditions,
such as fog or heavy precipitation.'yWhen detecting poorly-lit road users such
as pedestrians, cyclists, horseback riders
and wagons; when driving close to train or ship traffic; or at animal crossings.'yIn tight curves, on hilltops or in depres#j
sions, in cross traffic or half-obscured on#j coming traffic on highways.'yIn poorly-lit towns and cities or in the pres#j
ence of highly reflective signs.'yWhen the windshield in front of the interior
mirror is fogged over, dirty or covered with stickers, etc.
Laserhighbeams
Concept The range of the high beams is increased andensures an even better illumination of the road.
Generalinformation When the high beams are switched-on, start#j
ing with a speed of approx. 60 km/h the laser
high beams in the headlight are automatically switched on in addition to the LED high beams.
Depending on the country variant, further in#j formation can be obtained from the laser label
on the headlight.
