EjectionMitigationThe head airbag system is designed as anejection mitigation countermeasure to reducethe likelihood of ejections of vehicle occupantsthrough side windows during rollovers or sideimpact events.
Kneeairbag The knee airbag supports the legs in a frontal
impact.
Protectiveaction
Generalinformation
Airbags are not triggered in every impact situa#j tion, e.g., in less severe accidents or rear-end
collisions.

WARNING
If the seat position is incorrect or the de#j
ployment area of the airbags is impaired, the airbag system cannot protect as intended or
may cause additional injuries due to triggering.
There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Fol#j

Indicatorlampforthefront-seat
passengerairbags
The indicator lamp for the front-seat passen#j
ger airbag in the roofliner indicates the operat#j
ing state of the front-seat passenger airbag.
The lamp indicates whether the airbags are ei#j
ther activated or deactivated.
After drive-ready state is switched on, the
lamp briefly lights up and then indicates
whether the airbags are either activated or de#j
activated.
'yThe indicator lamp lights up
when a child is properly
seated in a child restraint fix#j
ing system or when the seat
is empty. The airbags on the
front passenger side are not
activated.'yThe indicator lamp does not light up when, e.g., a correctly seated person of sufficient
size is detected on the seat. The airbags
on the front passenger side are activated.
Detectedchildseats
The system generally detects children seatedin a child seat, particularly in child seats re#jquired by NHTSA at the point in time when thevehicle was manufactured. After installing achild seat, make sure that the indicator lampfor the front-seat passenger airbags lights up.
This indicates that the child seat has been de#j tected and the front-seat passenger airbags
are not activated.
Strengthofthedriver'sandfront-seat
passengerairbag
The explosive power that activates driver's/
front passenger's airbags very much depends
on the positions of the driver's/front passeng#j er's seat.
To maintain the accuracy of this function overthe long term, calibrate the front seats as soon
as a respective message appears on the Con#j
trol Display.
Calibratingthefrontseats WARNING
There is a risk of jamming when moving
the seats. There is a risk of injury or risk of property damage. Make sure that the area ofmovement of the seat is clear prior to any ad#jjustment.'

Safetyinformation
WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sys#j
tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an ac#j
cident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic conditions. Watch traffic closely and activelyintervene in the respective situations.'

Approachcontrolwarning withlightbrakingfunction
Concept
The system can help prevent accidents. If an accident cannot be prevented, the system willhelp reduce the collision speed.
The system sounds a warning before an immi#j
nent collision and actuates brakes independ#j
ently, if needed.
Generalinformation The system is controlled using a camera.
If the vehicle is equipped with Active Cruise
Control with Stop & Go function, ACC, the ap#j
proach control warning is additionally control#j led via the cruise control radar sensor.
The approach control warning is available even
if cruise control has been deactivated.
With the vehicle approaching another vehicle
intentionally, the approach control warning and
braking are delayed in order to avoid false sys#j
tem reactions.
The system issues a two-phase warning of a
possible risk of collision with vehicles at
speeds above approx. 3 mph/5 km/h. Time of
warnings may vary with the current driving sit#j
uation.Detectionrange
Objects are responded to if they are detected
by the system.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sys#j tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an ac#j cident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic
conditions. Watch traffic closely and activelyintervene in the respective situations.'

Display
If a collision with a recognized vehicle is immi#j
nent a warning symbol appears in the instru#j
ment cluster and in the Head-Up Display.
SymbolMeasureSymbol lights up red: prewarning.
Brake and increase distance.Symbol flashes red and an acoustic signal sounds: acute warning.
You are requested to intervene by
braking or make an evasive maneu#j
ver.Prewarning
This warning is issued, e.g., when there is the impending danger of a collision or the distanceto the vehicle ahead is too small.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is a prewarning.
Acutewarningwithbrakingfunction
Acute warning is displayed in case of the immi#j nent danger of a collision when the vehicle ap#j
proaches another object at a high differential
speed.
The driver must intervene actively when there
is an acute warning. If necessary, the driver is
assisted by an automatic braking intervention
in a possible risk of collision.
Acute warnings can also be triggered without
previous forewarning.
Brakeintervention,Citylightbraking
function
The warning prompts the driver himself/herself
to react. During a warning, the maximum brak#j ing force is used when the brake is actuated.
Prerequisite is sufficiently quick and hard step#j ping on the brake pedal.
The system can additionally assist possibly
with automatic braking intervention if there is a risk of a collision.
At low speeds the vehicle can be decelerated
to a complete stop.
The braking intervention takes place up to ap#j
prox. 50 mph/80 km/h.
The braking intervention is executed only if ve#j
hicle stability has not been restricted, e.g., by
deactivating the DSC Dynamic Stability Con#j
trol.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by ac#j
tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Observe
the limitations of the detection range and func#j tional restrictions.Seite 148ControlsSafety148

Above approx. 130 mph/210 km/h the braking
intervention occurs as a brief braking pressure. No automatic delay occurs.
The braking intervention can be interrupted by
stepping on the accelerator pedal or by ac#j
tively moving the steering wheel.
Object detection can be restricted. Observe
the limitations of the detection range and func#j

lision with pedestrians, and support with abraking function.
Generalinformation
The system is active at speeds of approx.
6 mph/10 km/h up to approx. 35 mph/60 km/h.
Under those circumstances it reacts to people
who are within the detection range of the sys#j
tem.
The camera in the area of the rearview mirror
controls the system.
Detectionrange
The detection area in front of the vehicle is div#jided into two areas:
'yCentral area, arrow 1, directly in front of thevehicle.'yExpanded area, arrow 2, to the right and
left.
A collision is imminent if pedestrians are lo#j
cated within the central area. A warning is is#j
sued about pedestrians who are located within the extended area only if they are moving inthe direction of the central area.
Safetyinformation WARNING
Indicators and warnings do not relieve
the driver from personal responsibility. Due to
system limits, warnings or reactions of the sys#j
tem may not be output or they may be output
too late or incorrectly. There is a risk of an ac#j
