Sidecollisionwarning
Concept
The system helps to avoid imminent side colli#j
sions.
Generalinformation
Four radar sensors in the bumpers monitor thearea next to the vehicle in the speed rangefrom approx. 45 mph/70 km/h to ap#j
prox. 130 mph/210 km/h.
The front camera determines the lane marking
positions.
If, e.g., another vehicle is detected next to the vehicle and if there is a risk of collision with this
vehicle, the system helps the driver to avoid
the collision via steering intervention.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess visi#j
bility and traffic situation. There is a risk of an
accident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic
conditions. Watch traffic closely and actively
intervene in the respective situations.'

Generalinformation'yDuring normal brake application, the outerbrake lights light up.'yDuring heavy brake application, the innerbrake lights additionally light up.
ActiveProtection
Concept
Active Protection prepares occupants and the vehicle for a possible accident in critical driving
or collision situations.
Generalinformation
Active Protection consists of various PreCrash functions, which can vary depending on the
equipment.
The system is used to detect certain critical
driving situations that might lead to an acci#j
dent. This includes the following critical driving situations:
'yEmergency stop.'ySevere understeering.'ySevere oversteering.
Certain functions of several systems can -
within the system limits - lead to Active Pro#j
tection triggering:
'yApproach control warning with light brak#j ing function: automatic brake intervention.'yApproach control warning with light brak#jing function or Night Vision with DynamicMarker Light: brake booster.'yRear collision prevention: detection of im#j
minent rear collisions.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility. Due to the system lim#j its, critical situation could not be detected reli#j
ably or in time. There is a risk of an accident. Adjust the driving style to the traffic condi#jtions. Watch traffic closely and actively inter#j
vene in the respective situations.'

PostCrashniBrakeConcept
In the event of an accident, the system can
bring the vehicle to a halt automatically without intervention by the driver in certain situations.
This can reduce the risk of a further collision
and the consequences thereof.
Atstandstill After coming to a halt, the brake is releasedautomatically.
Hardervehiclebraking
It can be necessary to bring the vehicle in cer#j
tain situations to a halt quicker.
Here, a higher braking pressure must be gen#j
erated for a short period when pressing the brake pedal than during automatic braking.
This interrupts automatic braking.
Interruptingautomaticbraking It can be necessary to interrupt automatic
braking in certain situations, e.g., for an evasive maneuver.
Interrupt automatic braking:'yBy pressing the brake pedal.'yBy pressing the accelerator pedal.
Attentivenessassistant
Concept
The system can detect decreasing alertness or
fatigue of the driver during long, monotonous
trips, e.g., on highways. In this situation, it is
recommended that the driver takes a break.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess one's physical state. An increasing lack of
alertness or fatigue may not be detected or notbe detected in time. There is a risk of an acci#jdent. Make sure that the driver is rested and
alert. Adjust the driving style to the traffic con#j
ditions.'

'y"Sensitive": the break recommendation
is issued earlier.
Display
If the driver becomes less alert or fatigued, a
message is displayed in the Control Display
with the recommendation to take a break.
During the display, the following settings can
be selected:
'y"Do not ask again"'y"Places to stop"'y"Remind me later"
The break recommendation is repeated af#j
ter 20 minutes.
After a break, another recommendation to take a break cannot be displayed until after approxi#jmately 45 minutes.
Systemlimits
The function may be limited in the following
situations, e.g., and will either output an incor#j rect warning or no warning at all:
'yWhen the clock is set incorrectly.'yWhen the vehicle speed is mainly belowabout 43 mph/70 km/h.'yWith a sporty driving style, such as duringrapid acceleration or when cornering fast.'yIn active driving situations, such as when
changing lanes frequently.'yWhen the road surface is poor.'yIn the event of strong side winds.
The system is reset approx. 45 minutes after
parking the vehicle, e.g., in the case of a break during longer trips on highways.

DrivingstabilitycontrolsystemsVehiclefeaturesandoptionsThis chapter describes all standard, country-specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.
Anti-lockBrakingSystem
ABS
ABS prevents locking of the wheels during
braking.
The vehicle maintains its steering power even during full brake applications, thus increasing
active safety.
ABS is operational every time you start the en#j gine.
Brakeassistant When you apply the brakes rapidly, the system
automatically produces the greatest possible
braking force boost. It reduces the braking dis#j
tance to a minimum during emergency stop.
This system utilizes all of the benefits provided
by ABS.
Do not reduce the pressure on the brake pedal
for the duration of the emergency stop.
Adaptivebrakeassistant In combination with the Active Cruise Control,
this system ensures that the brakes respond
even more rapidly when braking in critical sit#j
uations.Drive-offassistant
Concept
This system supports driving off on inclines.
Drivingaway1.Hold the vehicle in place with the foot
brake.2.Release the foot brake and drive off with#j
out delay.
After the foot brake is released, the vehicle is held in place for approx. 2 seconds.
After the accelerator pedal is depressed, the
vehicle is held until it is driven off.
Depending on the vehicle loading, the vehicle
may roll back slightly.
DSCDynamicStability
Control
Concept Within the physical limits, the system helps to
keep the vehicle on a steady course by reduc#j
ing engine speed and by braking the individual
wheels.
Generalinformation
Dynamic Stability Control detects, e.g., the fol#j lowing unstable driving conditions:
'yFishtailing, which can lead to oversteering.'yLoss of traction of the front wheels, which
can lead to understeering.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
The system does not release from the
personal responsibility to correctly assess the
traffic situation. Based on the limits of the sys#j
