This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable country provisions
must be observed.
Hazardwarningflashers
The button is located in the center console.
The red lamp in the button flashes with the
hazard warning flashers switched on.
Intelligentemergencycall
Concept
In case of an emergency, an Emergency Re#j
quest can be made through the system.
Generalinformation Only press the SOS button in an emergency.
For technical reasons, the Emergency Request cannot be guaranteed under unfavorable con#j
ditions.
Overview

Requirements
'yThe SIM card integrated in the vehicle has been activated.'yStandby state is switched on.'yThe Assist system is functional.
InitiatinganEmergencyRequest
1.Touch the cover.2.Press the SOS button and hold until the
LED on the microphone lights up green.'yThe LED is illuminated green when an
Emergency Request has been initiated.
If a cancel prompt appears on the Control
Display, the Emergency Request can be
aborted.
If the situation allows, wait in your vehicle
until the voice connection has been estab#j
lished.'yThe LED flashes green when a connection to the BMW Response Center has been
established.
When the Emergency Request is received

further steps to help you.
Even if you are unable to respond, the
BMW Response Center can take further steps to help you under certain circum#j

For this, data is transmitted to the BMW
Response Center which serves to deter#j
mine the necessary rescue measures. E.g., the current position of the vehicle, if it canbe established.'yIf the LED is flashing green, but the BMWResponse Center can no longer be heardvia the speaker, you can nevertheless still
be heard at the BMW Response Center.

Under certain conditions, an Emergency Re#j
quest is automatically initiated immediately af#j ter a severe accident. Automatic Collision Noti#j
fication is not affected by pressing the SOS
button.
RoadsideAssistance
Serviceavailability Roadside Assistance can be reached aroundthe clock in many countries. You can obtain as#jsistance there in the event of a vehicle break#j
down.
RoadsideAssistance The Roadside Assistance phone number can
be viewed via iDrive or a connection to Road#j
side Assistance can be established directly.
Warningtriangle
The warning triangle is located on the inside of the tailgate.
Press on the release, arrow 1, and swivel the cover down, arrow 2.
First-aidkit Generalinformation Some of the articles have a limited service life.
Check the expiration dates of the first-aid kit
contents regularly.
Replace the articles prior to their expiration
date.
Storage
The first-aid kit is located in the left storage
compartment of the cargo area.

Jump-starting
Generalinformation If the battery is discharged, the engine can be
started using the battery of another vehicle and two jumper cables. Only use jumper ca#j
bles with fully insulated clamp handles.
Safetyinformation DANGER
Contact with live components can lead to
an electric shock. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Do not touch any componentsthat are under voltage.'

battery, or to the corresponding starting
aid terminal of the vehicle to be started.4.Attach one terminal clamp of the negative jumper cable to the negative terminal ofthe battery, or to the corresponding engine
or body ground of assisting vehicle.5.Attach the second terminal clamp to the
negative terminal of the battery, or to the corresponding engine or body ground of
the vehicle to be started.
Startingtheengine
Never use spray fluids to start the engine.
1.Start the engine of the assisting vehicle
and let it run for several minutes at an in#j creased idle speed.2.Start the engine of the vehicle that is to bestarted in the usual way.
If the first starting attempt is not success#j
ful, wait a few minutes before making an#j
other attempt in order to allow the dis#j
charged battery to recharge.3.Let both engines run for several minutes.4.Disconnect the jumper cables in the re#j verse order.
Check the battery and recharge, if needed.
Tow-startingandtowing Safetyinformation WARNING
Due to system limits, individual functions
can malfunction during tow-starting/towing with the Intelligent Safety systems activated,
e.g., approach control warning with light brak#j
ing function. There is a risk of an accident.
Switch all Intelligent Safety systems off prior to
tow-starting/towing.'

2.Depress brake pedal.3.Engage selector lever position N.
If there is a malfunction, it may happen thatyou cannot change the selector lever position.

Towingothervehicles
Generalinformation Switch on the hazard warning system, depend#j
ing on local regulations.
If the electrical system has failed, clearly iden#j tify the vehicle being towed by placing a signor a warning triangle in the rear window.
Safetyinformation WARNING
If the approved gross vehicle weight of
the towing vehicle is lighter than the vehicle to be towed, the tow fitting can tear off or it will
not be possible to control the vehicle's re#j
sponse. There is a risk of an accident! Make
sure that the gross vehicle weight of the tow#j
ing vehicle is heavier than the vehicle to be towed.'

Regularly remove foreign objects such as leaves in the area below the windshield when
the hood is raised.
Wash your vehicle frequently, particularly in
winter. Intense soiling and road salt can dam#j age the vehicle.
Steamblasterandhigh-pressure
washer
Safetyinformation NOTE
When cleaning with high-pressure wash#j
ers, components can be damaged due to the
pressure or temperatures being too high.
There is a risk of property damage. Maintain
sufficient distance and do not spray too long
continuously. Follow the operating instructions for the high-pressure washer.'

Leathercare
Remove dust from the leather often, using a
cloth or vacuum cleaner.
Otherwise, particles of dust and road grime chafe in pores and folds, and lead to increasedwear and premature degradation of the leathersurface.
To guard against discoloration, such as from
clothing, clean leather and provide leather care roughly every two months.
Clean light-colored leather more frequently be#j cause soiling on such surfaces is substantially
more visible.
Use leather care products; otherwise, dirt and
grease will gradually break down the protective layer of the leather surface.
Upholsterymaterialcare
Generalinformation
Vacuum the upholstery regularly with a vac#j
uum cleaner.
If upholstery is very dirty, e.g., with beverage stains, use a soft sponge or microfiber cloth with a suitable interior cleaner.
Clean the upholstery down to the seams using
large sweeping motions. Avoid rubbing the material vigorously.
Safetyinformation NOTE
Open Velcron fasteners on articles of
clothing can damage the seat covers. There is
a risk of property damage. Ensure that any Vel#j
cron fasteners are closed.'
