AdaptiveLightControl Concept
Adaptive Light Control is a variable headlight
control system that enables dynamic illumina#j
tion of the road surface.
Generalinformation
Depending on the steering angle and other pa#j rameters, the light from the headlight follows
the course of the road.
To avoid blinding oncoming traffic, the Adap#j
tive Light Control does not swivel to the driv#j
er's side when the vehicle is at a standstill.
Depending on the equipment version, Adap#j
tive Light Control consists of one or several systems:'yCornering light, refer to page 151.
Activating
Position of switch:

Adaptive Headlight Control is active when
drive-ready state is switched on.
Corneringlight
In tight curves, for instance on mountainous
roads or when turning, an additional, cornering
light is switched on that lights up the inside of
the curve when the vehicle is moving below a certain speed.
The cornering light is automatically switched on depending on the steering angle or the use
of turn signals.
When driving in reverse, the cornering lights
may be automatically switched on regardless of the steering angle.
Adaptiveheadlightrange
control
The adaptive headlight range control compen#jsates for acceleration and braking operations
in order not to blind the oncoming traffic and to
achieve optimum illumination of the roadway.
High-beamAssistant
Concept
The high-beam Assistant detects other traffic participants early on and automatically switches the high beams on or off depending
on the traffic situation.
Generalinformation
The high-beam Assistant ensures that the high
beams are switched on, whenever the traffic

situation allows. In the low speed range, thehigh beams are not switched on by the system.
The system responds to light from oncoming
traffic and traffic driving ahead of you, and to
adequate illumination, for instance in towns
and cities.
The high beams can be switched on and off at any time as usual.
Activating/deactivating
Position of switch:
Press and hold button on signal lever.
The indicator light in the instrumentcluster is illuminated when the low
beams are switched on.
The headlights are automatically switched be#j tween low beams and high beams.
The blue indicator light in the instru#j
ment cluster lights up when the system
switches on the high beams.
The high-beam Assistant is deactivated when
manually switching the high beams on and off,
refer to page 118.
To reactivate the high-beam Assistant, press
the button on the turn signal lever.
Sensitivityofthehigh-beamAssistant Generalinformation The sensitivity of the high-beam Assistant canbe adjusted.
Safetyinformation
WARNING
If adjustments have been made or the
sensitivity has been modified, oncoming traffic may be dazzled. There is a risk of an accident.
If adjustments have been made and the sensi#j tivity has been modified, make sure that on#j
coming traffic is not dazzled. Switch off the
high beams manually if required.'

Laserhighbeams
Concept The range of the high beams is increased andensures an even better illumination of the road.
Generalinformation When the high beams are switched-on, start#j
ing with a speed of approx. 37 mph/60 km/h,
the laser high beams in the headlight are auto#j
matically switched on in addition to the LED
high beams.
Depending on the country variant, further in#j formation can be obtained from the laser label
on the headlight.
Safetyinformation
The label is in the headlight and is visible from
the outside.
FoglightsFrontfoglights
Concept
The front fog lights work alongside the low
beams to illuminate a wider area of the road#j
way.
Functionalrequirement The low beams must be switched on before
switching on the front fog lights.
Switchingon/off
Press button.
The green indicator light lights up if
the front fog lights are switched on.
If the automatic headlight control, refer topage 150, is activated, the low beams will
come on automatically when you switch on the front fog lights.

SafetyVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., dueto the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Airbags

Front airbags help protect the driver and the front passenger by responding to frontal im#j
pacts in which safety belts alone would not
provide adequate protection.Sideairbag

EjectionMitigationThe head airbag system is designed as anejection mitigation countermeasure to reducethe likelihood of ejections of vehicle occupantsthrough side windows during rollovers or sideimpact events.
Kneeairbag The knee airbag supports the legs in a frontal
impact.
Protectiveaction
Generalinformation
Airbags are not triggered in every impact situa#j tion, e.g., in less severe accidents or rear-end
collisions.
Informationonoptimumeffectoftheairbags
WARNING
If the seat position is incorrect or the de#j
ployment area of the airbags is impaired, the airbag system cannot provide protection as in#jtended and may cause additional injuries dueto triggering. There is a risk of injuries or dan#j
ger to life. Follow the information on achieving
the optimum protective effect of the airbag system.'

triggering of the airbag system. There is a risk
of injury. Do not touch individual compo#j nents.'

Indicatorlampforthefront-seat
passengerairbags
The indicator lamp for the front-seat passen#j
ger airbag in the roofliner indicates the operat#j
ing state of the front-seat passenger airbag.
The lamp indicates whether the airbags are ei#j
ther activated or deactivated.
After drive-ready state is switched on, the
lamp briefly lights up and then indicates
whether the airbags are either activated or de#j
activated.
'yThe indicator lamp lights up
when a child is properly
seated in a child restraint fix#j
ing system or when the seat
is empty. The airbags on the
front passenger side are not
activated.'yThe indicator lamp does not light up when, e.g., a correctly seated person of sufficient
size is detected on the seat. The airbags
on the front passenger side are activated.
Detectedchildrestraintsystems
The system generally detects children seated in a child restraint system, particularly in child
restraint systems required by NHTSA at the
point in time when the vehicle was manufac#j
tured. After installing a child restraint system,
make sure that the indicator light for the front-
seat passenger airbags lights up. This indi#j
cates that the child restraint system has been detected and the front-seat passenger airbags
are not activated.
Strengthofthedriver'sandfront-seat
passengerairbag
The explosive power that activates driver's/
front-seat passenger airbags very much de#j
pends on the positions of the driver's/front
passenger seat.
To maintain the accuracy of this function over the long term, calibrate the front seats as soon
as a respective message appears on the Con#j
trol Display.
Calibratingthefrontseats WARNING
There is a risk of jamming when moving
the seats. There is a risk of injury or risk of property damage. Make sure that the area ofmovement of the seat is clear prior to any ad#jjustment.'
