curbs, can move into the blind area of the sensors before or after a continuous tone
sounds.'yCargo that extends beyond the perimeter of the vehicle is not taken into account by
the system.
Parking spaces that are not suitable may be
detected or suitable parking spaces may not be detected at all.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed.
The parking assistant failed. Have the system
checked by a dealer#ss service center or an#j
other qualified service center or repair shop.
Crossingtrafficwarning Concept
Two radar sensors in the rear bumper monitor
the area behind the vehicle.
At blind driveways or when driving out of diag#j
onal parking spaces, approaching cross traffic
is detected sooner by the system than is pos#j sible from the driver's seat.
The system indicates approaching traffic.
The respective display is called up on the Con#j
trol Display. A signal tone may sound and the
light in the exterior mirror may flash.
With the respective equipment variant, the traffic area in front of the vehicle is monitored
as well. Two additional radar sensors are lo#j
cated in the front bumpers.
Safetyinformation WARNING
The system does not relieve from per#j
sonal responsibility to assess visibility and traf#j fic situation. There is a risk of an accident. Ad#jjust driving style to traffic conditions. Watchtraffic closely and actively intervene where ap#j
propriate.'

DrivingcomfortVehiclefeaturesandoptions
This chapter describes all standard, country- specific and optional features offered with theseries. It also describes features that are notnecessarily available in your vehicle, e. g., due
to the selected options or country versions.
This also applies to safety-related functions
and systems. When using these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations
must be observed.
Airsuspension
Concept Air suspension ensures best possible driving
comfort under all load conditions. Due to a var#j iable adjustment of the front and rear axles, thedamping is adjusted to the vehicle state.
Generalinformation
In the case of an uneven road surface, the ve#j
hicle level can be elevated to increase ground
clearance.'yNormal level, for normal road surface.'yRaised level, when the road surface is poor.
In the SPORT driving mode, refer to page 126,
or at higher speeds, the vehicle lowers itself.
Safetyinformation WARNING
When lowering the vehicle, body parts
can be jammed. There is a risk of injury. When lowering the vehicle, make sure that the areasof movement under the vehicle and under thewheel housing are free.'

Press button and hold for approx. 7 sec#j
onds, then release. The LED flashes rap#j
idly.
To activate system:
The system is activated again automatically
when you drive away.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed. The
system is impaired. Vehicle handling may be
altered and driving comfort may be noticeably reduced. Visit the nearest dealer#ss service cen#jter or another qualified service center or repair
shop.
Longperiodswhenvehicleisparked
During long periods when the vehicle is
parked, it can lower itself. This is not a mal#j
function.
If drive-ready state is switched on with the
doors closed, the vehicle is raised to the nor#j
mal level automatically.
DynamicDampingControl
Concept
This system reduces undesirable vehicle mo#j tion when using a dynamic driving style or trav#j
eling on uneven road surfaces.
This enhances the driving dynamics and driv#j
ing comfort depending on the road surface
condition and driving style.
Generalinformation
The system offers several different damping
settings.
The damping settings are assigned to the dif#j
ferent driving modes of the Driving Dynamics

InteriorairqualityThe air quality inside the vehicle is improvedby an emissions-tested interior, a microfilter, and a climate-control system for regulatingtemperature, air flow, and recirculated-airmode.
In addition there are other functions which de#j
pend on the vehicle's equipment, for instance microfilter/activated-charcoal filter, ionization,
fragrancing, automatic climate control with au#j
tomatic recirculated-air control AUC, and parked-car ventilation.

Temperature
Concept
The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if needed,
by using the maximum cooling or heating ca#j
pacity, and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
Do not rapidly switch between different temperature settings.
Otherwise, the automatic cli#j
mate control will not have sufficient time to ad#j just the set temperature.
Airconditioning
Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and dehumidified and, depending on the tempera#j
ture setting, warmed again.
Cooling of the car's interior is possible with the A/C button with drive-ready state switched on.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with air condi#j
tioning switched on.
Air conditioning is switched on with the engine
running.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when drive-
ready state is switched on.
The air conditioning is switched on automati#j
cally with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control,
condensation water develops and collects un#j
derneath the vehicle.
Maximumcooling Concept
The system is set to the lowest temperature,
optimum air flow and recirculated-air mode
with the drive-ready state switched on.
Generalinformation
The function is available with external temper#j
atures above approx. 32 #

Adjust air flow on the driver's side with the pro#j
gram active.
AUTOprogram Concept
Air flow, air distribution and temperature are
controlled automatically.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the AUTO
program switched on.
Depending on the selected temperature, the intensity of the AUTO program, and outside in#jfluences, the air is directed to the windshield, side windows, upper body, and into the floor
area.
The air conditioning, refer to page 229, is
switched on automatically with the AUTO pro#j gram.
At the same time, a condensation sensor con#j
trols the program so as to prevent window
condensation as much as possible.
The AUTO program is switched off automati#jcally, when manual air distribution is set.
Intensity
With the AUTO program switched on, the in#j tensity can be set. This changes the automaticcontrol for the air flow and air distribution.
Press the left or right side of the but#j
ton: decrease or increase intensity.
The selected intensity is shown on the display
of the automatic climate control.
Automaticrecirculated-aircontrol
AUC
Concept
The automatic recirculated-air control AUC recognizes odors or pollutants in the outsideair. The outside air supply is shut off and theinterior air is recirculated.
Generalinformation
If the system is activated, a sensor detects pol#j
lutants in the outside air and controls the shut-
off automatically.
If the system is deactivated, outside air contin#j uously flows into the vehicle's interior.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air
quality in the vehicle's interior deteriorates and the fogging of the windows increases.
Switchingon/off Press button.
The LED lights up if the system is
switched on using the button.

If there is window condensation, switch off re#j
circulated-air mode or defog the windows, re#j
fer to page 231.
Recirculated-airmode Concept
You may react to unpleasant odors or pollu#j
tants in the immediate environment by tempo#j
rarily suspending the supply of outside air. The
system then recirculates the air currently
within the vehicle.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select an
operating mode:
'yLED off: outside air flows in continuously.Seite 230ControlsClimatecontrol230
