Continuingthetrip
Do not exceed the maximum permissible
speed of 50 mph/80 km/h.
Reinitialize the Flat Tire Monitor, refer to
page 307.
Reset the Tire Pressure Monitor, refer to
page 302.
Replace the nonworking tire and the sealant
container of the Mobility System promptly.
Snowchains
Fine-linksnowchains
The manufacturer of your vehicle recommends
use of fine-link snow chains. Certain types of fine-link snow chains have been tested by the
manufacturer of the vehicle and recommended as road-safe and suitable.
Information regarding suitable snow chains is
available from a dealer#ss service center or an#j other qualified service center or repair shop.
Use WARNING
With the mounting of snow chains on un#j
suitable tires, the snow chains can come into
contact with vehicle parts. There is a risk of ac#j
cidents or risk of property damage. Only mount
snow chains on tires that are designated by
their manufacturer as suitable for the use of
snow chains.'

Do not reset the Tire Pressure Monitor TPMafter mounting snow chains, as doing so mayresult in incorrect readings.
When driving with snow chains, briefly activate
Dynamic Traction Control DTC to optimize the
forward momentum.
Maximumspeedwithsnowchains Do not exceed a speed of 30 mph/50 km/h
when using snow chains.

Generalinformation
In order to guarantee free running of the wheels when operating with snow chains, rearaxle steering of the integral active steering
must be switched off when snow chains are mounted.
Safetyinformation WARNING
When rear wheel steering is switched on
and snow chains are mounted, there can be contact between snow chains and the chassis. There is a risk of accidents or risk of propertydamage. With mounted snow chains, switchoff the rear wheel steering.'

DeclarationaccordingtoNHTSA/
FMVSS138TirePressureMonitoring
System
Each tire, including the spare (if provided)should be checked monthly when cold and in#jflated to the inflation pressure recommendedby the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicleplacard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your
vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation
pressure label, you should determine the
proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.)
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring
system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pres#j
sure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when
the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, you
should stop and check your tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pres#j
sure. Driving on a significantly under-inflated
tire causes the tire to overheat and can lead to
tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel ef#j ficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the
vehicle's handling and stopping ability. Please
note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver's
responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure,
even if under-inflation has not reached the
level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low
tire pressure telltale. Your vehicle has also
been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indi#j
cator to indicate when the system is not oper#j
ating properly. The TPMS malfunction indica#j
tor is combined with the low tire pressure
telltale. When the system detects a malfunc#j
tion, the telltale will flash for approximately one
minute and then remain continuously illumi#j
nated. This sequence will continue upon sub#j
sequent vehicle start-ups as long as the mal#j
function exists. When the malfunction indicator
is illuminated, the system may not be able to
detect or signal low tire pressure as intended.
TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of
reasons, including the installation of replace#j
ment or alternate tires or wheels on the vehicle
that prevent the TPMS from functioning prop#j
erly. Always check the TPMS malfunction tell#j
tale after replacing one or more tires or wheels
on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement
or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS
to continue to function properly.Seite 306MobilityWheelsandtires306

FTMFlatTireMonitorConcept
The system detects tire inflation pressure loss
on the basis of rotation speed differences be#j
tween the individual wheels while driving.
In the event of a tire inflation pressure loss, the
diameter and therefore the rotational speed of
the corresponding wheel changes. The differ#j
ence will be detected and reported as a flat
tire.
The system does not measure the actual infla#j
tion pressure in the tires.
Functionalrequirements
The following conditions must be met for the
system; otherwise, reliable flagging of a loss of tire inflation pressure is not assured:'yAfter a tire or wheel replacement, an initial#j
ization was performed with the correct tire
inflation pressure.'yAfter the tire inflation pressure was ad#j
justed to a new value, an initialization was performed.
Statusdisplay
The current status of the flat tire monitor canbe displayed, e.g., whether the RPA is active.
Via iDrive:
1."My Vehicle"2."Vehicle status"3. "Flat Tire Monitor"
The status is displayed.
Initializationrequired
An initialization must be performed in the fol#j lowing situations:
'yAfter the tire inflation pressure has been
adjusted.'yAfter a tire or wheel replacement.Performinginitialization
When initializing, the set tire inflation pres#j sures serve as reference values in order to de#j
tect a flat tire. Initialization is started by con#j
firming the tire inflation pressures.
Do not initialize the system when driving with
snow chains.
Using iDrive:1."My Vehicle"2."Vehicle status"3."Flat Tire Monitor"4.Switch on drive-ready state and do not
drive off.5.Start the initialization with: "Perform reset"6.Drive away.
The initialization is completed while driving, which can be interrupted at any time.
The initialization automatically continues when
driving resumes.

Generalinformation
When a flat tire is indicated, DSC Dynamic Sta#j bility Control is switched on, if needed.

flat tires can maintain limited stability. There is
a risk of an accident. Do not continue driving if the vehicle is equipped with normal tires. Fol#j

Modify your driving style. Avoid abrupt steer#jing maneuvers or driving over obstacles, for in#j
stance curbs or potholes.
Finaltirefailure
Vibrations or loud noises while driving can indi#j
cate the final failure of a tire.
Reduce speed and stop; otherwise, pieces of
the tire could come loose and cause an acci#j

The system could be delayed or malfunction in
the following situations:'yA natural, even tire inflation pressure loss
in all four tires will not be recognized.
Therefore, check the tire inflation pressure
regularly.'ySudden serious tire damage caused by ex#j ternal circumstances cannot be recognized

surface.'ySporty driving style: spinning traction
wheels, high lateral acceleration (drifting).'yWhen driving with snow chains.
Changingwheels/tires
Generalinformation
When using run-flat tires or a flat tire kit, a
wheel does not always need to be changed im#j mediately when there is a loss of tire inflation
pressure due to a flat tire.
If needed, the tools for changing wheels are
available as accessories from a dealer#ss service
center or another qualified service center or re#j pair shop.
