Opening
Press button on the exterior of the tailgate.
This corresponds with pressing the button
on the remote control.

Concept
The tailgate can be opened and closed with no-touch activation using the remote control you are carrying. Two sensors detect a for#j
ward-directed foot motion in the central reararea and the tailgate is opened or closed.
Generalinformation
To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not place the remote control in the cargo area.
If the remote control is in the sensor range, thetailgate may open or close inadvertently if youunintentionally move your foot or if something
else moves in the detection range.
The sensor has an approximate range of
5 ft/1.50 m extending from the rear of the vehi#j
cle.
If you open the tailgate with no-touch activa#j tion, locked doors will not be unlocked.
Safetyinformation WARNING
During no-touch activation, vehicle parts
may be touched, e.g., hot exhaust system.
There is a risk of injury. When moving your
foot, make sure you have a firm stance and do not touch the vehicle.'

Before closing, the hazard warning system
flashes and an acoustic signal sounds.
You can interrupt the closing operation by
moving your foot again.
Malfunction
Remote control detection by the vehicle may
malfunction under the following circumstan#j
ces:'yThe battery of the remote control is dis#j charged. Replace the battery, refer topage 63.'yInterference of the radio connection from
transmission towers or other equipmentwith high transmitting power.'yShielding of the remote control due tometal objects.
Do not transport the remote control to#j gether with metal objects.'yInterference of the radio connection by
mobile phones or other electronic devices
in direct proximity of the remote control.
Do not transport the remote control to#j gether with electronic devices.
In the case of a malfunction, unlock and lock
the vehicle using the buttons of the remote
control or using the integrated key, refer to page 68.
Tailgate
Generalinformation To avoid locking it in the vehicle, do not placethe remote control in the cargo area.
Depending on the features and the country
version, it is also possible to have the doors unlocked. Adjusting the settings, refer to
page 76.
The tailgate cannot be opened if it is locked
using the switch in the glove compartment. Separately lock the tailgate, refer to page 73.

sure that the area of movement of the tailgate is clear during opening and closing.'

Interruptionoftheopeningprocedure
The opening operation is interrupted:'yBy pressing the button used for opening
again.'yWhen the vehicle starts moving.'yBy pressing the button on the inside of the tailgate.
Closing
Fromtheinside Pull and hold the button in the driver's
door.
The remote control must be located inside the vehicle for this function.
An acoustic signal sounds before the tailgate is
closed.
Frominsidethetailgate
Without Comfort Access:
Press button on the inside of the tailgate.
With Comfort Access:
'yPress button, arrow 1, on the inside of the
tailgate.'yPress button, arrow 2.
The vehicle will be locked after closing the
tailgate. The driver's door must be closed
for this purpose and the remote control
must be outside of the vehicle in the area
of the tailgate.
Interruptionoftheclosingprocedure
The closing operation is interrupted:
'yBy pressing the button used for closing again/releasing the button used for closing.'yIf the vehicle starts off with a jerky move#j
ment.
Malfunction
In the event of an electrical malfunction, oper#j ate the unlocked tailgate manually with a slowand smooth motion.
Lockingseparately
Generalinformation
The switch in the glove compartment decou#j
ples the tailgate from the central locking sys#j
tem, so it can no longer be opened.
If the glove compartment is locked with the
integrated key, the remote control can be
handed over without the integrated key, for in#j
stance to a valet parking service. It is then no
longer possible for objects to be removed from the cargo area even with the remote control.

even if you did not unlock the vehicle with your
own remote control.

When the vehicle is locked, the vehicle alarm
system reacts to the following changes:'yOpening a door, the hood or the tailgate.'yMovements in the car's interior.'yChanges in the vehicle tilt, e. g., during at#j tempts at stealing a wheel or when towing
the vehicle.'yDisconnected battery voltage.'yImproper use of the socket for OBD On#j
board Diagnosis.
The alarm system signals these changes visu#j

Switchingon/off
When you unlock or lock the vehicle, either
with the remote control or with Comfort Ac#j cess, the alarm system is switched on and off
at the same time.

The alarm system is triggered when a door is
opened if the door was unlocked using the integrated key in the door lock.

You can trigger the alarm system if you find yourself in a dangerous situation.'yPress button on the remote con#j

To switch off the alarm: press any button.

'yThe indicator light flashes briefly every 2 seconds:

Interior motion sensor and tilt alarm sensor
are not active, as doors, hood, or tailgate are not correctly closed. Correctly closedaccess points are secured.
When the still open access points are
closed, interior motion sensor and tilt alarm
sensor will be switched on.'yThe indicator light goes out after unlock#j
ing:
The vehicle has not been tampered with.'yThe indicator light flashes after unlocking until drive-ready state is switched on, but
no longer than approx. 5 minutes:An alarm has been triggered.
Tiltalarmsensor
The tilt of the vehicle is monitored.
The alarm system responds in situations such
as attempts to steal a wheel or when the vehi#j
cle is towed.
Interiormotionsensor
The windows and the glass sunroof must be
closed for the system to function properly.
Avoidingunintentionalalarms
Generalinformation
The tilt alarm sensor and interior motion sen#j
sor can trigger an alarm, although no unauthor#j ized action occurred.
Possible situations for an unwanted alarm:
'yIn automatic vehicle washes.'yIn duplex garages.'yDuring transport on trains carrying vehi#j
cles, at sea or on a trailer.'yWith animals in the vehicle.
The tilt alarm sensor and the interior motion sensor can be switched off in such situations.

Press the remote control button againwithin 10 seconds as soon as the vehicle
is locked.
The indicator lamp lights up for approx. 2 sec#j
onds and then continues to flash.
