Detectedvehicle
Symbol lights up orange:
A vehicle has been detected ahead of
you.
Distance control is deactivated bej
cause the accelerator pedal is being
pressed; a vehicle was detected.
Flashing bar: the detected vehicle has driven away.
ACC does not accelerate. To accelerj
ate, activate ACC by briefly stepping on the acj
celerator pedal, pressing the RES button or
rocker switch.
Indicator/warninglights Symbol flashes orange:
The conditions are not adequate for
the system to work.
The system was deactivated but applies the brakes until you actively resume control by
pressing on the brake pedal or accelerator
pedal.
Symbol flashes red and a signal
sounds:
You are requested to intervene by
braking or make an evasive maneuver.
The system has been interrupted or
distance control is deactivated bej
cause the accelerator pedal is being
pressed; a vehicle was not detected.
Systemlimits
Detectionrange
The detection capacity of the system and the
automatic braking capacity are limited.
Two-wheeled vehicles for instance might not
be detected.
Deceleration
The system also does not decelerate in the folj
lowing situations:
'yFor pedestrians, cyclists or similarly slow-
moving road users.'yFor red traffic lights.'yFor cross traffic.'yFor oncoming traffic.'yUnlit vehicles or vehicles with nonworking lighting at night.
Swervingvehicles
A vehicle driving in front of you is not detecteduntil it is completely within the same lane as
your vehicle.

If a vehicle driving ahead of you suddenlyswerves into your lane, the system may not beable to automatically restore the selected disj
tance. It may not be possible to restore the sej
lected distance in certain situations, including if you are driving significantly faster than vehijcles driving ahead of you, for instance when
rapidly approaching a truck. When a vehicle
driving ahead of you is reliably detected, the
system requests that the driver intervene by
braking and carrying out evasive maneuvers, if
needed.
Cornering
If the desired speed is too high for a curve, the
speed is reduced slightly, although curves canj not be anticipated in advance. Therefore, drive
into a curve at an appropriate speed.
The system has a limited detection range. Sitj uations can arise in tight curves where a vehij
cle driving ahead will not be detected or will be
detected very late.
When you approach a curve the system may briefly report vehicles in the next lane due to
the bend of the curve. If the system decelerj
ates you may compensate it by briefly accelerj
ating.
After releasing the accelerator pedal the sysj tem is reactivated and controls speed indej
pendently.
Drivingaway In some situations, the vehicle cannot drive off
automatically; for example:'yOn steep inclines.'yFrom bumps in the road.
In these cases, step on the accelerator pedal.
Weather
The following restrictions can occur under unj
favorable weather or light conditions:
'yPoorer vehicle recognition.'yShort-term interruptions for vehicles that
are already recognized.
Examples of unfavorable weather or light conj
ditions:
'yRain.'ySnowfall.'ySlush.'yFog.'yGlare.
Drive attentively, and react to the current traffic situation. If necessary, intervene actively, for
instance by braking, steering or evading.
Enginepower The desired speed is also maintained downhill, but may not be maintained on uphill grades if
engine power is insufficient.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed if the
system fails.
The system may not be fully functional in the following situations:

PDC is a support when parking. When you
slowly approach an object in the rear - or also
in the front of the vehicle if the feature is availaj
ble - then the object is reported through:'ySignal tones.'yVisual display.
Generalinformation
The ultrasound sensors for measuring the disj
tances are located in the bumpers.
The maneuvering range, depending on the obj
stacle and environmental conditions, is approx.
6 ft/2 m.
An acoustic warning is first given in the followj ing situations:
'yBy the front sensors and the two rear corj
ner sensors at approx. 24 in/60 cm from
the object.'yBy the rear middle sensors at a distance to
the object of approx. 5 ft/1.50 m.'yWhen a collision is imminent.Seite 127DrivingcomfortControls127

WARNING
Signaltones An intermittent tone indicates when the vehijcle is approaching an object. E.g., if an object
is detected to the left rear of the vehicle, a sigj
nal tone sounds from the left rear speaker.
The shorter the distance to the object, the
shorter the intervals.
If the distance to a detected object is less than
approx. 10 inches/25 cm, a continuous tone is sounded.
With front PDC: if objects are simultaneously located both in front of and behind the vehicle, an alternating continuous signal is sounded.
The signal tone is switched off, when selector
lever position P is engaged.
Volume
The ratio of the PDC signal tone volume to the entertainment volume can be adjusted.
