The energy recovery occurs during coasting
and braking and is displayed in the performj ance display by the accelerator pedal indicator.
The accelerator pedal pointer is within the
CHARGE range.
Efficient energy recovery:
'yThe accelerator pedal moves to the left within the blue range of the CHARGE disj
play, arrow 1.'yThe energy use while driving can be optij mized by efficient acceleration.
Efficient acceleration:
'yThe accelerator pedal moves to the right
within the blue range of the ePOWER disj
play, arrow 2.'yUse deceleration during coasting as often as possible for energy recovery.
Dischargeofthehigh-voltagebattery
Generalinformation
Longer idle periods, refer to page 224, can rej
duce the charge state of the high-voltage batj tery.
Safetyinformation NOTE
The high-voltage battery can be damj
aged by excessive discharge. There is a risk of property damage. Before storing the vehiclefor an extended period, ensure that the high-voltage battery is fully charged. During the idleperiod, connect the vehicle to a charging staj
tion at a compatible charging location. If necj
essary, the high-voltage battery will be charged automatically. Make sure that the
charging process takes place. Regularly check the charge state.
Do not allow the vehicle to sit idle for longer
than four weeks with a charge state below apj
prox. 80 %.'

Safetyinformation WARNING
High gross weight can overheat the tires,
damage them internally and cause a sudden
drop in tire inflation pressure. Driving characj
teristics may be negatively impacted, reducing
lane stability, lengthening the braking distanj ces and changing the steering response.
There is a risk of an accident. Pay attention to the permitted load capacity of the tires and
never exceed the permitted gross weight.'

5.Determine the combined weight of lugj
gage and cargo being loaded on the vehij
cle. That weight may not safely exceed the available cargo and luggage load capacity
calculated in Step 4.6.If your vehicle will be towing a trailer, load
from your trailer will be transferred to your vehicle. Consult this manual to determinehow this reduces the available cargo and
luggage load capacity of your vehicle.
Load
The maximum load is the sum of the weight of
the occupants and the cargo.
The greater the weight of the occupants, the less cargo that can be transported.
Stowingandsecuringcargo
'yDo not exceed permissible rear axle load.'yCover sharp edges and corners on the
cargo.'yHeavy cargo: stow as far forward as possij
ble, directly behind and at the bottom of
the rear passenger seat backrests.'yVery heavy cargo: when the rear seat is not occupied, secure each of the safety belts in
the opposite buckle.'yIf necessary, fold down the rear backrests to stow cargo.'yDo not stack cargo above the top edge of
the backrests.'ySmaller and light cargo: secure with
ratchet straps or draw straps.'yLarger and heavy cargo: secure with cargo
straps.
Lashingeyesinthecargo
area
There are four lashing eyes in the cargo area for securing cargo.
Attach load securing aids, such as lashing straps, retaining straps, draw straps or cargo
nets, to the lashing eyes in the cargo area.

IncreasingtherangeGeneralinformationThe vehicle contains comprehensive technoloj
gies for reducing the energy consumption and for maximizing the range.
The range depends on a number of different
factors.
The implementation of certain measures, drivj
ing style and regular maintenance can increasj
ing the range and thereby also reduce the enj vironmental impact.
RemoveunnecessarycargoAdditional weight reduces the range.
Removeattachedparts
followinguse
Attached parts on the vehicle impair the aeroj
dynamics and increase the energy consumpj tion.
Closethewindowsandglass
sunroof
Driving with the glass sunroof and windows
open results in increased air resistance and
thereby reduces the range.
Tires Generalinformation
Tires can affect energy consumption in various ways, e.g., energy consumption can be influj
enced by tire size.Checkthetireinflationpressure
regularly
Check and, if needed, correct the tire inflation
pressure at least twice a month and before
starting on a long trip.
Low tire inflation pressure increases rolling rej
sistance and thus raises energy consumption
and tire wear.
Stationaryclimatecontrol Run advance climate control, refer to
page 143, in the vehicle during charging if posj
sible before driving off.
Heating and cooling operations are very enj
ergy intensive and substantially reduce the
electric range.
Lookwellaheadwhen
driving
Driving smoothly and proactively reduces enj
ergy consumption.
Avoid unnecessary acceleration and braking.
By maintaining a suitable distance to the vehij cle driving ahead of you.
Longer braking procedures result in more effij
cient charging of the high-voltage battery via
energy recovery from braking.
Useacceleratorpedalfor
decelerationandcoasting
When approaching a red light, use accelerator
pedal for decelerating.
For going downhill use coasting function; for this purpose, press accelerator pedal just
enough that the vehicle rolls.Seite 168DrivingtipsIncreasingtherange168

Switchoffanyfunctionsthat
arenotcurrentlyneeded
Functions such as the rear window defroster
require a lot of energy and reduce the range,
especially in city and stop-and-go traffic.
Switch off these functions if they are not needed.
The ECO PRO and ECO PRO+ driving proj
grams support the energy-conserving use of
comfort features. They automatically perform a
partial or complete deactivation of these funcj
tions.
Havemaintenancecarried
out
Have the vehicle maintained regularly to achj
ieve optimal vehicle efficiency and service life. BMW recommends that maintenance work be
performed by a BMW dealerss service center.
For information on the BMW Maintenance
System, refer to page 207.
ECOPROandECOPRO+ Concept
ECO PRO and ECO PRO+ support an efficient driving style. To this end, the control of the
drive is optimized for moderate acceleration, and adapted to lighting and comfort features, such as climate control output. Some vehicle
functions cannot be used during activated
driving mode ECO PRO and ECO PRO+.
In addition, context-sensitive instructions can
be displayed that assist in driving efficiently.
Generalinformation
With ECO PRO and ECO PRO+, different setj
tings are made in the respective mode.ECOPRO'yReduction of the heating output and
switch-on duration for exterior mirror, rear window, and seat heating.'yReduction of the cooling or heating output
of the air conditioner.'yThe speed is limited to an adjustable maxij
mum value between 50 mph/80 km/h and
80 mph/130 km/h. To intentionally exceed the speed limit, press the accelerator pedal
all the way down.
ECOPRO+
The cooling and heating output of the air conj
ditioner are additionally deactivated on ECO
PRO+ activation.
