without remote control using the integrated
key.

Unlocking from the inside is only possij
ble with special knowledge.
Persons who spend a lengthy time in the vehij
cle while being exposed to extreme temperaj tures are at risk of injury or death. Do not lockthe vehicle from the outside when there arepeople in it.'

To do this, slide the integrated key into the
opening from below and unlock the lid.2.Unlock or lock the door lock using the
integrated key.
The other doors must be unlocked or locked from the inside.
Alarmsystem
The alarm system is not switched on if the vej
hicle is locked with the integrated key.
The alarm system is triggered when the door is
opened, if the vehicle has been unlocked via
the door lock.
In order to stop the alarm, unlock the vehicle
with the remote control or establish the radio-
ready state, if needed, through emergency dej
tection of the remote control, refer to page 41.
Buttonsforthecentral

Generalinformation
In the event of a severe accident, the vehicle is
automatically unlocked. The hazard warning system and interior lights come on.
Overview
Buttons for the central locking system.
Locking Press the button with the doorsclosed.
The vehicle is not secured against theft when
locking.
Unlocking Press button.
The vehicle locks automatically after you drive off.
Opening

Reardoors
Generalinformation
Before exiting the vehicle, make sure that the
front safety belt is completely wound up.
Overview
The door openers are located on the inside,next to the front safety belts.
Opening
1.Open the corresponding front door.2.Pull door opener backward.
To better reach the front door's handle fold the
front seat's backrests, refer to page 56,
down.
Closing When closing, make sure that the correspondj
ing front door is far enough open.
ComfortAccess
Concept
The vehicle can be accessed without activatj ing the remote control.
All you need to do is to have the remote conj trol with you, such as in your pants pocket.
The vehicle automatically detects the remote control when it is in close proximity or in the
vehicle's interior.

Comfort Access supports the following funcj
tions:'yUnlocking and locking the vehicle.'yConvenient closing.'yOpen the tailgate.
Functionalrequirements
'yTo lock the vehicle, the remote control must be located outside of the vehicle near

activated. All settings stored in the driver proj
file are automatically applied.
If several drivers use their own remote control,
the vehicle will adjust the personal settings
during unlocking. These settings are also rej
stored, if the vehicle has been used in the
meantime by a person with a different remote control.
Changes to the settings are automatically
stored in the driver profile currently activated.
If another driver profile is selected via iDrive, the settings stored in it will be applied autoj
matically. The new driver profile is assigned to the remote control currently used.
There is an additional guest profile available
that is not assigned to any remote control: it
can be used to apply settings in the vehicle
without changing the personal driver profiles.
Functionalrequirements
For the system to be able to identify the driver profile associated to a particular driver, the dej
tected remote control must be clearly alloj
cated to the driver.
This is the case when:'yThe driver is only carrying his or her own
remote control.'yThe driver unlocks the vehicle.'yThe driver gets into the vehicle through the
driver's door.
Settings
The settings for the following systems and
functions are stored in the active profile. The
scope of storable settings depends on country
and equipment.

Profilemanagement
Openingprofiles Regardless of the remote control in use, a difjferent profile may be activated. This allows youto call up personal vehicle settings, even if you
did not unlock the vehicle with your own rej
mote control.

The following functions are executed:
'yAll settings stored in the called-up profile are automatically applied.'yThe called-up profile is assigned to the rejmote control being used at the time.'yIf the profile is already assigned to a differjent remote control, this profile will apply toboth remote controls.

The guest profile is for individual settings thatare stored in none of the three personal proj
files.

opened if the door was unlocked using the integrated key in the door lock.

The tailgate can be opened even when the
alarm system is switched on.
After the tailgate is closed, it is locked and
monitored again provided the doors are
locked. The hazard warning system flashes
once.
Panicmode You can trigger the alarm system if you findyourself in a dangerous situation.

The vehicle has not been tampered with.'yThe indicator light flashes after unlocking until the radio-ready state is switched on,
but no longer than approx. 5 minutes:
An alarm has been triggered.
Tiltalarmsensor The tilt of the vehicle is monitored.
The alarm system responds in situations such
as attempts to steal a wheel.
Interiormotionsensor The windows and the glass sunroof must be
closed for the system to function properly.
