Windshield washer system Safety information
WARNING
The washer fluid can freeze onto the window at low temperatures and obstruct the view. There
is a risk of an accident. Only use the washer
systems, if the washer fluid cannot freeze. Use antifreeze, if needed.
NOTE
When the washer fluid reservoir is empty, the
wash pump cannot work as intended. There is a risk of damage to property. Do not use the
washer system when the washer fluid reservoir
is empty.
Cleaning the windshield
Pull the lever.
The system sprays washer fluid on the windj shield and activates the wipers briefly.
Windshield washer nozzles The windshield washer nozzles are automaticallyheated while standby state is switched on.

Fold-away position of the wipers
Concept
The fold-out position enables the wipers to be folded away from the windshield.
General information
Important, for instance when changing the wiper
blades or when folding out under frosty condij
tions.
Safety information
WARNING
If the wipers start moving in the folded away
state, body parts can be jammed or damage may occur to parts of the vehicle. There is a riskof injury or risk of damage to property. Make
sure that the vehicle is switched off when the wipers are in the folded away state and the wipj
ers are folded in when switching on.
NOTE
If the wipers are frozen to the windshield, the
wiper blades can be torn off and the wiper moj tor can overheat when switching on. There is arisk of damage to property. Defrost the windjshield prior to switching the wipers on.
Folding away the wipers
1.Switch standby state on and off again.2.With frosty conditions, make sure that theblades are not frozen to the windshield.3.Press the wiper lever up beyond the point ofresistance and hold it for approx. 3 seconds,
until the wipers remain in a nearly vertical poj sition.4.Fold the wipers all the way away from the
windshield.
Folding down the wipers
After the wipers are folded back down, the wiper
system must be reactivated.
1.Fold the wipers back down onto the windj
shield.2.Switch on standby state.3.Push wiper lever down. Wipers return to their resting position and are ready again for operj
ation.
Washer fluid
General information
All washer nozzles are supplied from one reserj
voir.
Use a mixture of tap water and windshield
washer concentrate. If desired, a windshield
washer concentrate containing antifreeze can be
used.
Recommended minimum fill quantity:
0.2 US gal/1 liter.

Safety information
WARNING
Some antifreeze agents can contain harmful substances and are flammable. There is a riskof fire and a risk of injury. Follow the instrucj
tions on the containers. Keep antifreeze away from ignition sources. Do not refill operating
materials into different bottles. Store operating
materials out of reach of children.
United States: the washer fluid mixture ratio is
regulated by the U.S. EPA and many individual
states; do not exceed the allowable washer fluid
dilution ratio limits that apply. Follow the usage
instructions on the washer fluid container.
Use of BMWss Windshield Washer Concentrate
or the equivalent is recommended.
NOTE
Silicon-containing additives in the washer fluid
for the water-repelling effect on the windows
can lead to damage to the washing system.
There is a risk of damage to property. Do not
add silicon-containing additives to the washer
fluid.
NOTE
Mixing different windshield washer concenj trates or antifreeze can damage the washing
system. There is a risk of damage to property.
Do not mix different windshield washer concenj
trates or antifreeze. Follow the information and
mixing ratios provided on the containers.
Overview
The washer fluid reservoir is located under the hood.
Malfunction The use of undiluted windshield washer concenj
trate or alcohol-based antifreeze can lead to inj
correct readings at temperatures below
+5

DisplaysVehicle features and options
This chapter describes all standard, country-spej
cific and optional features offered with the series.
It also describes features that are not necessarily
available in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Instrument cluster
Concept
The instrument cluster is a variable display.
Some of the displays in the instrument clustermay differ from the way they are shown in this
Owner's Manual.

High-voltage battery charge indicator
WARNING
Even when it is indicated that the high-voltage
battery is discharged, the high-voltage system is always still under high voltage. There is a risk
of fire or a risk of injury. Do not touch or change live parts, for instance orange high-voltage caj
bles, even when the batteries are discharged.
The fill level bars indicate the available charge
state of the high-voltage battery when standby
state and drive-ready state are switched on.
With a low range the color of the charge state inj dicator switches from blue to yellow.
In addition, the range for electric driving is disj
played.
With Range Extender: maintaining charge
state
The arrow on the charge state indicator desj
ignates the Range Extender activation time. If Range Extender is activated, the current chargestate of the high-voltage battery is maintained.
'xGray arrow: Range Extender deactivated.'xWhite arrow: Range Extender activated.
Performance display
The accelerator pedal indicator in the performjance display indicates the current efficiency of
your driving style. The efficient range of the perj
formance display is colored blue.

range, arrow 2: display when accelerating.
The blue ePOWER range in the display is rej
duced if the high-voltage battery is heavily disj
charged. The available power is automatically adj
justed.
Optimizing the driving style, refer to page 198.
Drive-ready state: READY The READY display indicates that
the vehicle is ready for driving. Drive-ready state in detail, refer topage 101.

In addition, an acoustic signal may sound and an
SMS text message may appear on the Control
Display.
Indicator/warning lights
General information
The indicator/warning lights in the instrument
cluster can light up in a variety of combinations
and colors.
Several lights indicate function checks and light up only temporarily when drive-ready state orstandby state are activated.

tected on the front passenger seat.
Indicator light flashes or is illuminated: safety belt
on the driver or passenger side is not buckled.
The safety belt reminder can also be activated if
objects are placed on the front passenger seat.
Make sure that the safety belts are positionedcorrectly.
Airbag system

ing is issued, for example when there is
the impending danger of a collision or
the distance to the vehicle ahead is too small.
Increase distance.
Indicator light flashes: acute warning of the immij nent danger of a collision when the vehicle apjproaches another vehicle at a relatively high difj
ferential speed.
Intervention by braking or make an evasive maj
neuver.
Person warning If a collision with a person detected inthis way is imminent, the symbol lights
up and a signal sounds.Seite 118CONTROLSDisplays118
