System limits
Safety information
WARNING
The system can react not at all, too late, incorj
rectly, or without justification due to the system
limits. There is a risk of accidents or risk of
damage to property. Follow the information rejgarding the system limits and actively interveneif needed.
No parking assistance
The parking assistant does not offer assistance
in the following situations:
'xIn tight curves.
Functional limitations
The system may not be fully functional in the foljlowing situations:
'xOn bumpy road surfaces such as gravelroads.'xOn slippery ground.'xOn steep uphill or downhill grades.'xWith accumulations of leaves/snow in the
parking space.'xWith ditches or edges, for instance an edge
of a port.
Limits of ultrasonic measurement
Ultrasonic measurements might not function in
the following situations:
'xFor small children and animals.'xFor persons with certain clothing, for instance coats.'xWith external interference of the ultrasound,
for instance from passing vehicles or loud
machines.'xWhen sensors are dirty, iced over, damaged
or out of position.'xUnder certain weather conditions such as
high relative humidity, wet conditions, snowj
fall, extreme heat, or strong wind.'xWith tow bars and trailer couplings of other
vehicles.'xWith thin or wedge-shaped objects.'xWith moving objects.'xWith elevated, protruding objects such as ledges or cargo.'xWith objects with corners and sharp edges.'xWith objects with a fine surface structure
such as fences.'xFor objects with porous surfaces.'xIf cargo protrudes.'xLow objects already displayed, for instance
curbs, can move into the blind area of the sensors before or after a continuous tonesounds.
Parking spaces that are not suitable may be dej
tected or suitable parking spaces may not be dej tected at all.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed. The parking assistant failed. Have the system checked by a dealerss service center or anotherqualified service center or repair shop.

Climate controlVehicle features and options
This chapter describes all standard, country-spej
cific and optional features offered with the series.
It also describes features that are not necessarily
available in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Interior air quality
The air quality inside the vehicle is improved by
an emissions-tested interior, a microfilter, and a
climate-control system for regulating temperaj
ture, air flow, and recirculated-air mode.
In addition there are other functions which dej
pend on the vehicle's equipment, for instance microfilter/activated-charcoal filter, automatic clij
mate control with automatic recirculated-air conj
trol AUC, and parked-car ventilation.Air conditioner

Switching the system on/off
Switching on
Press any button except for the following:'xRear window defroster.'xSeat heating.
Switching off
Press and hold the left button until thecontrol switches off.
Temperature
Concept
The system heats or cools, depending on the set
temperature.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired
temperature.
To reduce the energy consumpj
tion, the cooling or heating output
is reduced or deactivated as per
ECO-PRO mode, refer to page 205.
Air conditioning
Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and dej humidified and, depending on the temperaturesetting, warmed again.
Cooling of the car's interior with the A/C button is
only possible with drive-ready state switched on.
Switching on/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with air conditioning
switched on.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when drive- ready state is activated.
The air conditioner produces condensation waj
ter, refer to page 201, that will exit from below
the vehicle.
Recirculated-air mode Concept
You may react to unpleasant odors or pollutants
in the immediate environment by temporarily
suspending the supply of outside air. The system
then recirculates the air flow within the vehicle.
Operation Press button repeatedly to select an opjerating mode:'xLED off: outside air flows in continuously.'xLED on, recirculated-air mode: the supply of
outside air into the vehicle is permanently
blocked.
To prevent window fogging, recirculated-air
mode switches off automatically after a certain amount of time, depending on the environmental
conditions.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air qualj ity in the car's interior deteriorates and the fogj
ging of the windows increases.
If the windows fog over, switch off recirculated-
air mode and increase the air flow, if needed.
Controlling the air flow manually Concept
The air flow for climate control can be adjusted
manually.

You may combine these programs as needed.
Defrosting windows and removing
condensation
Concept
Ice and condensation are quickly removed from
the windshield and the front side windows.
Switching on/off
Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the system
switched on.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow acj
tive.
If the windows are fogged over, you can also
switch on the air conditioning to dehumidify the air.
Rear window defroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches off
automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter In external and recirculated-air mode the microfiljter filters dust and pollen from the air.

Switching the system on/off

The automatic climate control achieves the set
temperature as quickly as possible, if necessary
by using the maximum cooling or heating power,
and then keeps it constant.
Settings Turn the ring to set the desired

The selected temperature is shown on the disj
play of the automatic climate control.
The automatic climate control reaches this temj perature as quickly as possible, if needed, by injcreasing the cooling or heating output, and thenkeeps it constant.
Do not rapidly switch between different temperaj ture settings. Otherwise, the automatic climate
control will not have sufficient time to adjust the
set temperature.
To reduce the energy consumption, the cooling or heating output is reduced or deactivated as per ECO-PRO mode, refer to page 205.
Air conditioning
Concept
The air in the car's interior will be cooled and dej
humidified and, depending on the temperature setting, warmed again.
The car's interior can be cooled with the stationj ary climate control or via the A/C button withdrive-ready state activated.
Switching on/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with air condij
tioning switched on.
Depending on the weather, the windshield and
side windows may fog up briefly when drive- ready state is activated.
The air conditioning is switched on automatically
with the AUTO program.
When using the automatic climate control, conj densation water, refer to page 201, develops
and drains underneath the vehicle. This is norj mal.
Maximum cooling
Concept
The system is set to the lowest temperature, opj
timum air flow and recirculated-air mode.General information
The function is available above an external temj
perature of approximately 32

Intensity
With the AUTO program switched on, the intenj sity can be set. This changes the automatic conj trol for the air flow and air distribution.
Press the left or right side of the button:
decrease or increase intensity.
The intensity level is indicated by LEDs.
Automatic recirculated-air control/
recirculated-air mode
Concept
The automatic recirculated-air control AUC recj
ognizes odors or pollutants in the outside air. The outside air supply is shut off and the interiorair is recirculated.
General information
If the system is activated, a sensor detects polluj tants in the outside air and controls the shut-off
automatically.
If the system is deactivated, outside air continuj ously flows into the car's interior.
With constant recirculated-air mode, the air qualj
ity in the car's interior deteriorates and the fogj ging of the windows increases.

to utilize the condensation sensor. Make sure that air can flow to the windshield.

To manually adjust air flow switch off AUTO proj gram first.
Operation Press the left or right side of the button:
decrease or increase air flow.

be reduced automatically to save battery power.

Defrosting windows and removing
condensation
Concept
Ice and condensation are quickly removed from the windshield and the front side windows.
Switching on/off Press button.
The LED is illuminated with the system
switched on.
For this purpose, point the side vents towards the side windows as needed.
The air flow can be adjusted with the air flow acj
tive.
If the windows are fogged over, you can also switch on the air conditioning or press the AUTO
button to utilize the condensation sensor.
Rear window defroster Press button. The LED lights up.
The rear window defroster switches off
automatically after a certain period of time.
Microfilter/activated-charcoal filter
In external and recirculated-air mode the microfilj ter/activated charcoal filter filters dust, pollen, andgaseous pollutants out of the air.

Adjusting the ventilation

Direct vent in your direction when car's intej

Stationary climate control
Concept
Stationary climate control cools or heats the car's
interior prior to departure to a comfortable temj perature.
The interior temperature is lowered with high cooling output.
The system may heat the car's interior. Snow
and ice can be removed more easily.
General information
The stationary climate control can be switched on and off directly or via a pre-set departure time.

With the BMW Connected app, refer topage 180, the stationary climate control can be
switched on.
The air automatically exits through the vents to
the windshield, the side windows, the upper body region and into the floor area.
The system switches off automatically after a certain period of time.
If stationary climate control is used during the charging process, less air conditioning capacitywill be required while driving. This optimizes the
range.
Functional requirements'xDrive-ready state is deactivated.'xHigh-voltage battery sufficiently charged or
charging cable connected.
If the high-voltage battery is heavily disj
charged, it can take some time after connectj ing the charging cable, until the stationary clij
mate control will be functional.'xDeparture time preselected: depends on the
internal, external, and set desired temperaj
ture.'xDirect operation via iDrive: does not depend
on the external temperature.'xThe vents are open to allow air to flow out.
Switching on/off directly
Concept
The system can be switched on or off directly.
The system switches off automatically after a certain period of time.

Climate control at departure time
Concept
Different departure times can be adjusted to enj sure a comfortable interior temperature in the vej
hicle at the time of departure.
The activation time is automatically determined based on the temperature.
The system promptly switches on before the sej
lected departure time.
The departure time is preselected in two steps:
'xSet departure times.'xActivate departure times.
General information
If drive-ready state is switched off, changes can
be made on the Control Display. Departure time
can only be changed once. Scheduled departure times are not adjusted. Settings for climate conjtrol and charging process are also applied forscheduled departure times.

Functional requirement

remote function, the system can be switched on directly or via a preset departure time.
