Interior equipmentVehicle features and options
This chapter describes all standard, country-spej
cific and optional features offered with the series.
It also describes features that are not necessarily
available in your vehicle, e. g., due to the selected
options or country versions. This also applies to
safety-related functions and systems. When usj
ing these functions and systems, the applicable laws and regulations must be observed.
Integrated Universal Remote Control
Concept
The integrated Universal Remote Control in the interior mirror can operate up to 3 functions ofremote-controlled systems, such as garage door
drives, barriers, or lighting systems. The
Integrated Universal Remote Control replaces up to 3 different hand-held transmitters. To operate
the remote control, the buttons on the interior mirror must be programmed with the desiredfunctions. The hand-held transmitter for the parj
ticular system is required in order to program the
remote control.
Before selling the vehicle, delete the stored funcj tions for the sake of security.

WARNING
Body parts can be jammed when operating rej mote-controlled systems, such as the garage door, using the integrated Universal Remote
Control. There is a risk of injury or risk of damj
age to property. Make sure that the area of movement of the respective system is clearduring programming and operation. Also follow
the safety information of the hand-held transj
mitter.
Compatibility If this symbol is printed on the packaging
or in the owner's manual of the system to
be controlled, the system is generally
compatible with the integrated Universal Remote
Control.

Programming
General information

Press and hold the two outer buttons on the
interior mirror simultaneously for approxij
mately 20 seconds until the LED on the intej rior mirror flashes. This erases all programj
ming of the buttons on the interior mirror.3.Hold the hand-held transmitter for the system to be controlled approx. 1 to 3 inches/2.5 to
8 cm away from the buttons of the interior mirror. The required distance depends on the
hand-held transmitter.4.Simultaneously press and hold the button of
the desired function on the hand-held transj
mitter and the button to be programmed on the interior mirror. The LED on the interiormirror will begin flashing slowly.5.Release both buttons as soon as the LED
flashes more rapidly. The LED flashing faster indicates that the button on the interior mirrorhas been programmed.
If the LED does not flash faster after at least
60 seconds, change the distance between
the interior mirror and the hand-held transj mitter and repeat the step. Several more atj
tempts at different distances may be necesj
sary. Wait at least 15 seconds between
attempts.
Canada: if programming with the hand-held transmitter was interrupted, hold down the inj
terior mirror button and repeatedly press and
release the hand-held transmitter button for
2 seconds.6.To program other functions on other buttons,
repeat steps 3 to 5.
The systems can be controlled using the interior
mirror buttons.
Special feature of the rolling code
wireless system
If you are unable to operate the system after rej
peated programming, please check if the system to be controlled features a rolling code radio sysjtem.
Read the system's owner's manual, or press the
programmed button on the interior mirror longer.
If the LED on the interior mirror starts flashing
rapidly and then stays lit constantly for 2 secj onds, the system features a rolling code radiosystem. Flashing and continuous illumination ofthe LED will repeat for approximately 20 secj
onds.
For systems with a rolling code radio system, the
integrated Universal Remote Control and the
system also have to be synchronized.
Please read the owner's manual to find out how to synchronize the system.
Synchronizing is easier with the aid of a second
person.
Synchronizing the universal remote control with the system:1.Park the vehicle within range of the remote-
controlled system.2.Program the desired button on the interior mirror as described.3.Locate and press the synchronizing button
on the system being programmed. You have approx. 30 seconds for the next step.4.Hold down the programmed button on the injterior mirror for approximately 3 seconds andthen release it. If necessary, repeat this step
up to three times in order to finish synchronij
zation. Once synchronization is complete, the
programmed function will be carried out.
Reprogramming individual buttons
1.Switch on the ignition.2.Press and hold the interior mirror button to be programmed.3.As soon as the interior mirror LED startsflashing slowly, hold the hand-held transmitjter for the system to be controlled approx. 1
to 3 inches/2.5 to 8 cm away from the butj
tons of the interior mirror. The required disj

4.Likewise, press and hold the button of the
desired function on the hand-held transmitj ter.5.Release both buttons as soon as the interior
mirror LED flashes more rapidly. The LED
flashing faster indicates that the button on the interior mirror has been programmed.
The system can then be controlled by the
button on the interior mirror.
If the LED does not flash faster after at most
60 seconds, change the distance and repeat
the programming starting with step 4. Several
more attempts at different distances may be necessary. Wait at least 15 seconds betweenattempts.
Canada: if programming with the hand-held
transmitter was interrupted, hold down the inj
terior mirror button and repeatedly press and
release the hand-held transmitter button for
2 seconds.
Operation
WARNING

age to property. Make sure that the area of
movement of the respective system is clear
during programming and operation. Also follow
the safety information of the hand-held transj
mitter.
The system, such as the garage door, can be opj
erated using the button on the interior mirror
while the engine is running or when the ignition
is started. To do this, hold down the button
within receiving range of the system until the
function is activated. The interior mirror LED
stays lit while the wireless signal is being transj mitted.
Deleting stored functions
All stored functions will be deleted. The funcj
tions cannot be deleted individually. Press and hold the two outer buttons on the interior mirrorsimultaneously for approximately 20 seconds unj
til the LED on the interior mirror flashes rapidly.

The point of the compass is displayed in the mirj ror when driving straight.
Operating concept
Various functions can be called up by pressing
the control button with a pointed object, such as
the tip of a ballpoint pen or similar object. The following setting options are displayed in succesjsion, depending on how long the control buttonis pressed:
'xPressed briefly: turns display on/off.'x3 to 6 seconds: compass zone setting.'x6 to 9 seconds: compass calibration.'x9 to 12 seconds: left/right-hand steering setj

Setting the compass zones
Sets the particular compass zones on the vehicle
so that the compass operates correctly; refer to
World map with compass zones.
World map with magnetic zones
Procedure1.Press and hold the control button for approx. 3 to 4 seconds. The number of the set comj
pass zone appears in the mirror.2.To change the zone setting, press the control button quickly and repeatedly until the numj
ber of the compass zone that corresponds with your location appears in the mirror.
The set zone is stored automatically. The comj
pass is ready for use again after approximately
10 seconds.
Calibrating the digital compass The digital compass must be calibrated in theevent of the following:
'xThe wrong compass point is displayed.'xThe point of the compass displayed does notchange despite changing the direction of
travel.'xNot all points of the compass are displayed.
Procedure
1.Make sure that there are no large metallic obj jects or overhead power lines near the vehicle
and that there is sufficient room to drive
around in a circle.2.Set the currently applicable compass zone.3.Press and hold the control button for approx. 6 to 7 seconds so that "C" appears on the
display. Next, drive in a complete circle at least once at a speed of no more than4 mph/7 km/h. If calibration is successful, the

Left/right-hand steeringThe digital compass is already set for right orleft-hand steering at the factory.
Setting the language Press and hold the control button for approx. 12
to 13 seconds. Briefly press the control button
again to switch between English "E" and German "O".
Settings are stored automatically after approxij mately 10 seconds.
Sun visor
Glare shield
Fold the sun visor down or up.
Vanity mirror A vanity mirror is located in the sun visor behind
a cover. Depending on the equipment version, the mirror lighting may switch on when the cover
is opened.
Ashtray/cigarette lighter
Ashtray
Overview
The ashtray can be inserted in the cup holder.
Emptying
Take out the insert.
Cigarette lighter
WARNING
Contact with the hot heating element or the hot
socket of the cigarette lighter can cause burns. Flammable materials can ignite if the cigarettelighter falls down or is held against the respecj
tive objects. There is a risk of fire and injuries.
Take hold of the cigarette lighter by its handle.
Make sure that children do not use the cigaj rette lighter and burn themselves.
NOTE
If metal objects fall into the socket, they can
cause a short circuit. There is a risk of damage to property. Replace the cigarette lighter or
socket cover again after using the socket.
Overview
The cigarette lighter is located between the front seats.
Push in the cigarette lighter.
The cigarette lighter can be rej
moved as soon as it pops back
out.

Sockets
General information
The lighter socket can be used as a socket for
electrical equipment when standby and drive-
ready state are switched on.
The total load of all sockets must not exceed
140 watts at 12 volts.
Do not damage the socket by using non-comj
patible connectors.
Safety information
WARNING
Devices and cables in the unfolding area of the airbags, such as portable navigation devices,can hinder the unfolding of the airbag or be
thrown around in the car's interior during unj
folding. There is a risk of injury. Make sure that
devices and cables are not in the airbag's area
of unfolding.
NOTE
Battery chargers for the vehicle battery can
work with high voltages and currents, which
means that the 12 volt on-board network can be overloaded or damaged. There is a risk ofdamage to property. Only connect battery
chargers for the vehicle battery to the starting
aid terminals in the engine compartment.
NOTE
If metal objects fall into the socket, they can
cause a short circuit. There is a risk of damage to property. Replace the cigarette lighter or
socket cover again after using the socket.
Front center console
The socket is located underneath the dashboard.
Remove the cover.
Between the front seats
The socket is located between the front seats.
Remove the cover or cigarette lighter.
In the cargo area
The socket is located on the right side in the cargo area. Remove the cover.

USB interface
Concept
Mobile devices with USB port can be connected to the USB interface.
General information
Follow the information regarding the connection
of mobile devices to the USB interface in the
section on USB connections, refer to page 54.
Overview
The USB interface is located between the front
seats.
Connecting an external device Follow the following when connecting:
'xDo not use force when plugging the connecj
tor into the USB interface.'xUse a flexible adapter cable.'xProtect the USB storage device against mej
chanical damage.'xDue to the large number of USB media availj
able on the market, it cannot be guaranteed that every device is operable on the vehicle.'xDo not expose USB media to extreme envij
ronmental conditions, such as very high temj peratures; refer to the owner's manual of the
device.'xDue to the many different compression techj niques, proper playback of the media storedon the USB storage device cannot be guarj
anteed in all cases.'xA connected USB storage device will be supj plied with charging current via the USB interj
face if the device supports this. At higher
temperatures, the USB storage device may
cause a reduction in the charging current.'xTo ensure proper transmission of the stored data, do not charge a USB storage device via
the onboard socket, when it is connected to
the USB interface.'xDepending on how the USB storage device is
being used, settings may be required on the
USB storage device, refer to the owner's
manual of the device.
Non-compatible USB media:
'xUSB hard drives.'xUSB hubs.'xUSB memory card readers with multiple inj serts.'xHFS-formatted USB media.'xDevices such as fans or lamps.
Cargo area
Cargo cover
General information
The cargo cover is raised when the tailgate is
opened.
Safety information
WARNING
Loose objects or devices with a cable connecj
tion to the vehicle, for instance mobile phones, can be thrown into the car's interior while drivj
ing, for instance in the event of an accident or
during braking and evasive maneuvers. There is
a risk of injury. Secure loose objects or devices

with a cable connection to the vehicle in the
car's interior.
Removing1.Detach the retaining straps at the tailgate.2.Raise the cover and pull it back to remove.
Installing
1.Place the cover in the brackets.2.Attach the retaining straps.
Enlarging the cargo area Concept
The cargo area can be enlarged by folding down
the rear seat backrest or moving it into the cargo position.
General information
The rear seat backrest is divided at a ratio of 50 to 50.
The rear seat backrests can be folded down from the rear or from the cargo area.
Safety information
WARNING
Danger of jamming with folding down the backj rests. There is a risk of injury or risk of damage
to property. Make sure that the area of movej ment of the rear backrest and the of the headrestraint is clear prior to folding down.
WARNING
If a rear seat backrest is not locked, unsecured cargo can be thrown into the car's interior;
for instance, in the event of an accident, braking or an evasive maneuver. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that the rear seat backrest is locked
after folding it back.
WARNING
Unexpected movements of the backrest while
driving may occur due to unintentional unlockj
ing of the rear backrests by the straps. There is
a risk of injury. Do not fasten any objects to the
straps for unlocking the rear backrests.
WARNING
The stability of the child restraint system is limj ited or compromised with incorrect seat adjustj
ment or improper installation of the child seat.
There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Make
sure that the child restraint system fits securely against the backrest. If possible, adjust the
backrest tilt for all affected backrests and corj
rectly adjust the seats. Make sure that seats
and backrests are securely engaged or locked.
If possible, adjust the height of the head rej
straints or remove them.
NOTE
Vehicle parts can be damaged when folding down the rear backrest. There is a risk of damj age to property. Make sure that the area ofmovement of the rear backrest including headrestraint is clear when folding down.
