Automaticheadlampcontrol
Concept
The low beams are switched on and off autoj matically depending on the ambient brightj
ness, e.g., in tunnels, in twilight or if there is
precipitation.
Generalinformation
A blue sky with the sun low on the horizon can cause the lights to be switched on.
When emerging from a tunnel during the day,
the low beams are not switched off immedij ately but instead only after approx. 2 minutes.
Activating
Position of switch:

as a substitute for your personal judgment of
lighting conditions.

For example, the sensors are unable to detect
fog or hazy weather. To avoid safety risks unj der these conditions, you should always switch
on the lights manually.
Daytimerunninglights
Generalinformation Position of switch:
, ,
The daytime running lights light up when the
ignition is switched on. After the ignition is
switched off, the parking lights light up in posij
tion

Activating/deactivating In some countries, daytime running lights are
mandatory, so it may not be possible to deactij
vate the daytime running lights.

Settings are stored for the profile currently used.
AdaptiveLightControl
Theconcept Adaptive Light Control is a variable headlight
control system that enables dynamic illuminaj
tion of the road surface.
Generalinformation
Depending on the steering angle and other paj
rameters, the light from the headlight follows the course of the road.
To avoid blinding oncoming traffic, the Adapj tive Light Control does not swivel to the drivjer's side when the vehicle is at a standstill.
Activating
Position of switch

switched on.
Malfunction
A Check Control message is displayed.
Adaptive Light Control is malfunctioning or has failed. Have the system immediately checked
by a dealerss service center or another qualij
fied service center or repair shop.
High-beamAssistant
Concept
The high-beam Assistant detects other traffic participants early on and automatically
switches the high beams on or off depending
on the traffic situation. The assistant ensures
that the high beams are switched on, whenj
ever the traffic situation allows. In the low
speed range, the high beams are not switched
on by the system.
Generalinformation
The system responds to light from oncoming
traffic and traffic driving ahead of you, and to adequate illumination, e.g., in towns and cities.
The driver can intervene at any time and switch the high beams on and off as usual.
Activating
1.Depending on the equipment, turn the light switch into position
or .

cluster is illuminated when the low
beams are switched on.
The high beams are switched on and off autoj
matically.
The blue indicator lamp in the instruj
ment cluster lights up when the system
switches on the high beams.
Deactivating The High-beam Assistant is deactivated when
manually switching the high beams on and off, refer to page 71. To reactivate the high-beam
Assistant, press the button on the turn signal lever.
Systemlimits
The high-beam Assistant cannot serve as a
substitute for the driver's personal judgment of when to use the high beams. Therefore, manj
ually switch off the high beams in situations
where required to avoid a safety risk.
The system is not fully functional in the followj ing situations, and driver intervention may benecessary:
'yIn very unfavorable weather conditions,
such as fog or heavy precipitation.'yWhen detecting poorly-lit road users such
as pedestrians, cyclists, horseback riders
and wagons; when driving close to train or ship traffic; and at animal crossings.'yIn tight curves, on hilltops or in depresj
sions, in cross traffic or half-obscured onj coming traffic on highways.'yIn poorly-lit towns and cities and in thepresence of highly reflective signs.'yWhen the windshield in front of the interior
mirror is fogged over, dirty or covered with stickers, etc.Instrumentlighting
Settings The parking lights or low beams
must be switched on to adjust
the brightness.
Adjust the brightness with the
thumbwheel.
Interiorlights
Generalinformation
Depending on the equipment, the interior
lights, footwell lights, entry lamps, and courj tesy lamps are controlled automatically.

Airbags

Front airbags help protect the driver and front passenger by responding to frontal impacts in which safety belts alone would not provide adjequate restraint.Sideairbag
In a lateral impact, the side airbag supports the
side of the body in the chest and lap area.

EjectionMitigationThe head airbag system is designed as anejection mitigation countermeasure to reducethe likelihood of ejections of vehicle occupantsthrough side windows during rollovers or sideimpact events.
Kneeairbag The knee airbag supports the legs in a frontal
impact.
Protectiveaction
Airbags are not triggered in every impact situaj
tion, e.g., in less severe accidents or rear-end collisions.

WARNING
If the seat position is incorrect or the dej
ployment area of the airbags is impaired, the airbag system cannot protect as intended ormay cause additional injuries due to triggering.

WARNING
Improperly executed work can lead to
failure, malfunction or unintentional triggering of the airbag system. In the case of a malfuncj
tion, the airbag system might not trigger as inj
tended in the event of an accident despite rej
spective accident severity. There is a risk of injuries or danger to life. Have the airbag sysj
