memory
General
A
number
of
electronic
control
devices
are
instalj
led
in
your
vehicle.
Some
of
these
are
necessary
for
the
vehicle
to
function
safely
or
provide
assisj
tance
during
driving,
for

tance
Systems.
There
are
also
control
devices
which
manage
comfort
or
infotainment
functions.
Electronic
control
devices
contain
data
memoj
ries,
which
can
temporarily
or
permanently
store
information
about
the
vehicle's
condition,
comj
ponent
use
and
wear,
maintenance
requirej
ments,
technical
events
and
faults.
This
information
generally
documents
the
condij
tion
of
a
component,
a
module,
a
system
or
its
environment,
for
example:'xOperating
states
of
system
components, for
example,
fill
levels,
tyre
inflation
pressure,
battery
status.'xStatus
messages
of
the
vehicle
and
its

components,
for

the

the

Reading
out
data
When
service
work
is
being
carried
out,
for
exj ample
repairs,
service
operations,
warranty
work
and
quality
assurance
measures,
this
technical information
can
be
read
out
from
the
vehicle
toj
gether
with
the
vehicle
identification
number.
A

Partner
of
the
manufacturer
or
another
qualified
Service
Partner
or
a
specialist
workshop
can
read
out
the
information.
The
legally
required
on-board
diagnostics
(OBD)
socket
in
the
vehicle
is
used
to
read
out
the
data.
The
data
is
collecj
ted,
processed
and
used
by
the
relevant
organij
sations
in
the
service
network.
The
data
docuj
ments
the
technical
conditions
of
the
vehicle,
helps
in
locating
faults
and
improving
quality,
and
