Intendeduse Comply with the following when using the vejhicle:
'yOwner's Handbook.'yInformation on the vehicle. Do not remove
stickers.'yTechnical data of the vehicle.'yThe applicable laws and safety standards of the country in which the vehicle is used.'yVehicle papers and legal documents.
Warranty
Your vehicle is technically designed for the opj erating conditions and approval requirementsprevalent in the country to which it was first
delivered - homologation. If your vehicle is to
be operated in another country, it may have to
be adapted to any prevailing different operatj
ing conditions and approval requirements. If your vehicle does not comply with the homoloj
gation requirements in a certain country you cannot lodge warranty claims for your vehicle
there. A Service Partner is able to provide furj ther information.
Maintenanceandrepairs
The advanced technology used in your vehicle,
for example the state-of-the-art materials and high-performance electronics, requires suitjably appropriate maintenance and repair methj
ods.
Consequently, the manufacturer of your vehij cle recommends having corresponding workcarried out by a BMW Service Partner. If you
select a different specialist workshop, BMW
recommends that you select a workshop that
can carry out the corresponding work such as maintenance and repair according to BMW
specifications and works with appropriately
trained personnel, referred to in this Owner's Handbook as another qualified Service Partneror a specialist workshop.
If such work, for example maintenance and rej pair, is performed inexpertly, it could result inconsequential damage and thus constitute a
safety risk.
Partsandaccessories
BMW recommends using parts and accessory products that are specifically approved for this
purpose by BMW.
You are recommended to consult a BMW
Service Partner for advice on genuine BMW parts and accessories, other BMW approved
products and expert advice on all related matj
ters.
The safety and compatibility of these products in conjunction with BMW vehicles have been
checked by BMW.
BMW accepts product responsibility for genuj ine BMW parts and accessories. BMW cannotSeite 8Notes8

accept liability for parts or accessory productsof any kind which it has not approved.
BMW is unable to assess each individual prodj
uct of outside origin as to its suitability for use
on BMW vehicles without safety risk. Nor can suitability be assured if an official permit has
been issued for it in a specific country. Tests
performed for such permits cannot always cover all operating conditions for BMW vehij
cles, and some of them therefore are insuffij
cient.
Datamemory General
A number of electronic control devices are inj
stalled in your vehicle. Some of these are necj
essary for the vehicle to function safely or proj
vide assistance during driving, for example
Driver Assistance Systems. There are also
control devices which manage comfort or infoj tainment functions.
Electronic control devices contain data memoj
ries, which are able to save information on the
vehicle condition, component wear and condij
tion, maintenance requirements, technical events or errors temporarily or permanently.
This information generally documents the conj dition of a component, a module, a system orits environment, for example:'yOperating states of system components,
for example, fill levels, tyre pressure, batj tery status.'yStatus messages of the vehicle and its inj
dividual components, for example wheel
rotation speed, wheel speed, deceleration, lateral acceleration, fastened seat belt indijcator.'yMalfunctions and faults of important sysj
tem components, for example, lights and brakes.'yInformation on vehicle-damaging events.'yResponses of the vehicle to particular drivj
ing situations, for example, triggering of an
airbag, activation of the stability control
systems.'yAmbient conditions, for example temperaj
ture, rain sensor signals.
The data is required to perform the control dej vice functions. It is also used for detecting andrectifying malfunctions, and helps the vehicle
manufacturer to optimise vehicle functions. The majority of this data is transient and is only
processed within the vehicle itself. Only a small
proportion of the data is stored in event or erj
ror memories and, if necessary, in the vehicle
key.
Readingoutdata
When service work is being carried out, for exj
ample repairs, service operations, warranty work and quality assurance measures, thistechnical information can be read out from thevehicle together with the vehicle identification
number. A Service Partner of the manufacturer or another qualified Service Partner or a spejcialist workshop can read out the information.
The legally required on-board diagnostics (OBD) socket in the vehicle is used to read out
the data. The data is collected, processed and
used by the relevant organisations in the servj
ice network. The data documents the technical
conditions of the vehicle, helps in locating
faults and improving quality, and is transferred
to the vehicle manufacturer, if necessary.
Furthermore, the manufacturer has product
monitoring obligations to meet in line with product liability law. To fulfil these obligations,
the vehicle manufacturer requires technical
data from the vehicle. Error and event memoj
ries in the vehicle can be reset when a Service
Partner of the manufacturer or another qualij
fied Service Partner or a specialist workshop
performs repair or servicing work.
Data on service work carried out and proof of
maintenance is saved in the vehicle under the
service history and transferred to the vehicle

manufacturer. The vehicle owner can contact a
Service Partner of the manufacturer to object to the data being saved and transferred to the
vehicle manufacturer. This objection applies
for as long as the vehicle owner remains the
proprietor of the vehicle.
Dataentryanddatatransferintothe
vehicle
General
Depending on the equipment, some data can
be transferred into the vehicle when using comfort and infotainment functions, for examj
ple:'yMultimedia data such as music, films or
photos for playback in an integrated multij
media system.'yAddress book data for use in conjunction
with an integrated hands-free system or an integrated navigation system.'yEntered navigation destinations.'yData on the use of Internet services.
This data can be saved locally in the vehicle or
is found on a device that has been connected
to the vehicle, for example a smartphone, USB stick or MP3 player. If this data is saved in the
vehicle, it can be deleted at any time. This data
is only transmitted to third parties if expressly desired. This depends on the personal settings
selected for using online services.
Depending on the equipment, the following
comfort and individual settings can be saved in
the vehicle and modified at any time, for examj
ple:
'ySettings for the seat and steering wheel
positions.'ySuspension and climate control settings.'yIndividual settings, for example interior
lighting.Controlviamobileuserdevices
Depending on the equipment, mobile end user devices connected to the vehicle, for examplesmartphones, can be controlled via the vehicle
controls. The sound and picture from the moj
bile user device can be played back and disj
played through the multimedia system. Certain information is transferred to the mobile user
device at the same time. Depending on the type of connection, this includes, for example
position data and other general vehicle inforj
mation. This optimises the way in which selecj
ted apps, for example navigation or music playj
back, work.
There is no further interaction between the mobile user device and the vehicle, for examj
ple active access to vehicle data. How the data
is processed further is determined by the proj vider of the particular app being used. The
range of settings depends on the respective
app and the operating system of the mobile
user device.
Services
General
If the vehicle has a wireless network connecj
tion, this enables data to be exchanged bej tween the vehicle and other systems. Thewireless network connection is established via
an in-vehicle transmitter and receiver unit or
via personal mobile user devices brought into
the vehicle, for example smartphones. This wireless network connection enables 'online
functions' to be used. These include online
services and apps supplied by the vehicle
manufacturer or by other providers.

Where online services from the vehicle manuj
