Indicatingaturnbriefly
Press the lever as far as the resistance point
and hold it there for as long as you wish to indij cate a turn.
Malfunction
If the indicator lamp flashes more rapidly than
usual, a turn signal light has failed.
High-beamheadlights,headlight
flasher
Push the lever forwards or pull it back.'yHigh-beam headlights on, arrow 1.'yHigh-beam headlights off/headlight flasher, arrow 2.
Wipersystem
General
Do not use wipers with a dry windscreen, othj
erwise the wiper blades will wear or become damaged more quickly.
Safetynotes WARNING
If the wipers start moving when they are
folded away from the windscreen, parts of the
body may become trapped or the vehicle may be damaged. There is a danger of injury or
damage to property. Make sure that the vehij
cle is switched off when the wipers are folded
away from the windscreen, and that the wipers
are in contact with the windscreen when switching on.'

Switchingoffandflick-wiping
Press the lever down.
'ySwitching off: press lever downwards until
the home position is reached.'yFlick-wiping: press lever downwards from
the home position.
The lever returns to the home position when released.
Intermittentmodeorrainsensor
Principle The rain sensor automatically controls the
wiper operation depending on the rain intenj
sity.
General
The sensor is mounted on the windscreen, dij
rectly in front of the rear-view mirror. Without
rain sensor, the interval for the wiper operation
is specified.
Safetynote NOTE
In car washes, the wipers may inadverj
tently start moving if the rain sensor is activaj ted. There is a danger of damage to property.Deactivate the rain sensor in car washes.'

3.Lift wipers completely away from the windj
screen.
Foldinthewipers
After folding the wipers in, the wiper system
must be reactivated.
1.Fold in the wipers completely onto the
windscreen.2.Switch on the ignition.3.Press the wiper lever downwards. The wipj ers move back to the rest position and areoperational once again.
Washerfluid
General All washer jets are supplied from one tank.
Use a mixture of tap water and screenwash
concentrate for the windscreen washer, if necj
essary with the addition of anti-freeze.
Recommended minimum fill level: 1 litre, apj
proximately 1.7 Imp. pints.
Safetynotes WARNING
Some anti-freezes can contain toxic subj
stances, and are flammable. There is a risk of fire and fatal injury. Comply with the notes onthe containers. Keep anti-freezes away from
sources of combustion. Do not pour service
products into other bottles. Keep service prodj
ucts out of the reach of children.'

In Drive mode, all forward gears are automatij
cally changed.
Kick-down: for maximum acceleration, for exj ample, when overtaking. To do that, press the
accelerator pedal beyond the resistance point.
Change to Sequential mode: shift using the
shift paddles or push the selector lever in the
D/S direction.
SSequentialmode
Change up or change down using the shift
paddle or selector lever without coming off the gas.'yShortly before a minimum speed dependjing on the gear, it automatically downj
shifts.'yThe gears are only shifted up or down with
the appropriate engine speed and road
speed.
For example, there is no downshift at too high an engine speed.'yKick-down: by operating the kick-downand the left shift paddle or selector lever at
the same time, you can change down to
the lowest possible gear.'yDriving off is possible even in 2nd gear on a
level carriageway, for example, when it is smooth.
To change to Drive mode: press selector leverin the D/S direction.
RReverse Engage this position only when the vehicle is
stationary.
For rocking out, even up to 10 km/h, approxij
mately 6 mph is possible. To do that, shift bej
tween forward and reverse gear without applyj ing the brakes.
NNeutral,idling In selector lever position N, the vehicle can roll,
for example in car washes, see page 244.
PPark The drive gears are locked.
Transmission position P is engaged automatij cally:'yAfter stopping the engine in the radio
ready state, see page 86, or ignition off,
see page 85, when position R or D is enj
gaged.'yPosition N is engaged and ignition is off.
Rollingorpushingthevehicle
General In some situations, the vehicle is to roll withoutits own power for a short distance, for examplein a car wash, or be pushed.
EngagingselectorleverpositionN
1.Start the engine with the brake pressed.2.If necessary, release the parking brake.3.Depress the brake pedal.4.Engage selector lever position N.5.Stop the engine.
In this way the ignition remains switched on and a Check Control message is disj played.
The vehicle will be able to roll.
NOTE
Selector lever position P is automatically
engaged when the ignition is switched off.
There is a danger of damage to property. Do
not switch the ignition off in car washes.'

5.Using the Cruise Control, change the enj
gine speed when driving off by 500 rpm.6.Release brake, vehicle accelerates. Conj tinue to press accelerator pedal.
Upshifting happens automatically as long as the accelerator pedal is fully pressed.
Launch Control is only available again after acertain distance has been travelled.
Systemlimits
This gearbox has overheat protection, which
protects the clutch against extreme loads.
'yIndicator lamp illuminates yellow:
gearbox too hot.
Avoid high engine load and frej
quent driving off.'yIndicator lamp illuminates red: gearbox overheated.
Moderate continued driving possible. Stop at the next opportunity, stop the engine
and allow the gearbox to cool.
Avoid frequent, heavy driving off and on upj
ward gradients, do not hold the vehicle by
slightly giving gas with sliding clutch, otherj
wise the gearbox may overheat.
In traffic queues or at very low speeds, use the
Low Speed Assistant, see page 96.
MEngineDynamicsControl
Principle The M Engine Dynamics Control affects the
response of the vehicle to movements of the accelerator pedal.
Programs Possibilities for adjusting the responsiveness:
'y"Sport Plus": spontaneous, direct. Maxij
mum dynamics.'y"Sport": sporty, dynamic.'y"Efficient": efficient, comfortable. Minij mised consumption
Ideal, for example, in city traffic or on snow.
Selectingachannel
