WARNING
Displays and warnings do not relieve you
of personal responsibility. System limitations can mean that warnings or system responses
are not issued or are issued too late, incorj rectly, or without justification. There is a danj
ger of accidents. Adapt your driving style to
the traffic conditions. Observe the traffic situaj
tion and intervene actively if the situation warj
rants it.'

FunctionalrestrictionsThe function may be restricted in the following
situations, for example:'yIn thick fog, wet conditions or snow.'yWith missing, worn, poorly visible, mergj
ing/separating or ambiguous boundary
lines, for example in areas where there are road works.'yIf boundary lines are covered by snow, ice,
dirt or water.'yOn sharp bends or narrow roads.'yIf the boundary lines are not white.'yIf boundary lines are obscured.'yIf the vehicle is moving too close to the vej hicle ahead.'yWith bright oncoming light.'yWhen the windscreen in front of the rear-
view mirror is covered with condensation,
dirt, stickers, labels, etc.'yDuring the camera calibration process imj
mediately after vehicle delivery.
LaneChangeWarning
PrincipleThe Lane Change Warning detects vehicles in
the blind spot, or if vehicles are approaching
from behind in the adjacent lane. A warning is issued in various gradations in these situaj
tions.
General
Two radar sensors in the rear bumper monitor
the area behind and beside the vehicle as of
approximately 20 km/h, approximately 12 mph.
In some equipment configurations, the radar
sensors are active from approximately
50 km/h, approximately 30 mph.
The system indicates when vehicles are in the
blind spot, arrow 1, or are approaching from
the rear in an adjacent lane, arrow 2.
The light in the exterior mirror housing illumij nates at a dimmed level.
Before changing lanes with the turn indicator
switched on, the system issues a warning in
the above situations.
The light in the exterior mirror housing flashes
and the steering wheel vibrates.
Safetynotes WARNING
The system does not release you from
your personal responsibility to assess the visij
bility conditions and traffic situation correctly.
There is a danger of accidents. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions. Observe
the traffic situation and intervene actively if the
situation warrants it.'

FunctionalrestrictionsThe function may be restricted in the following
situations:'yIf the speed of the approaching vehicle is very much higher than that of your own
speed.'yIn thick fog, wet conditions or snow.'yOn sharp bends or narrow roads.'yIf the bumper is dirty, iced over or covered, for example by stickers.'yWhen a projecting load is being transporjted.
A Check Control message is displayed in the
event of limited functionality.
Manualspeedlimiter PrincipleThe system enables speeds from a value of30 km/h/20 mph and above to be set as a
speed limit. Below the set speed limit, the vej hicle can be driven without restriction.
Exceedingthespeedlimit In particular situations the speed limit can be
deliberately exceeded by accelerating strongly.
The system gives a warning if the travellingspeed exceeds the set speed limit.
Nobrakeintervention
If the set speed limit has been reached or uninj
tentionally exceeded, for example when driving
downhill, there is no active brake intervention.
If you set a speed limit during the journey
which is below the current speed, the vehicle rolls until the driving speed drops below the
speed limit.

wheel.
The current speed is adopted as the speed limit.
When switching on when at a standstill or drivj ing at low speed, 30 km/h/20 mph is set as the
speed limit.
The status display is shown and, depending on
the instrument cluster, a marking in the speedj
ometer is set to the corresponding speed.
When activating the speed limit it is possible
that Dynamic Stability Control, DSC is activaj
ted.
Switchingoff Press the button on the steering
wheel.
The system switches off automatically in the following situations, for example:

Changespeedlimit
Press the rocker switch repeatedly upwards ordownwards until the desired speed limit is set.
'yEvery time the rocker switch is pressed to
the resistance point, the speed limit is inj
creased or decreased by 1 km/h, 1 mph.'yEach time the rocker switch is pressed bej
yond the resistance point, the speed limit is increased or decreased to the next multij
ple of 10 km/h on the speedometer display.
If you set a speed limit while driving which is
below the current speed, the vehicle coasts down to the set speed limit.
Exceedingthespeedlimit You can intentionally exceed the speed limit. There is no acoustic warning in such a case.
To exceed the set speed limit intentionally, fully depress the accelerator pedal.
The limit automatically becomes active again
as soon as the current speed falls below the
set speed limit.
Warningwhenthespeedlimitis exceeded
Visualwarning The indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster flashes if the set speed limit is exceeded for as long as you exceed the
set speed limit.
Acousticwarning'yIf you unintentionally exceed the set speed limit, you will hear an acoustic warning afj
ter approximately 5 seconds.'yIf the speed limit is reduced to below the driven speed during the journey, the warnjing sounds after approximately 30 secj
onds.'yIf you intentionally exceed the speed limit by fully pressing the accelerator pedal, nowarning is given.

General'yNormal braking: brake lights illuminate.'yHeavy braking: brake lights flash.
Shortly before the vehicle comes to a standj
still, the hazard warning lights are activated.
To deactivate the hazard warning lights:
'yAccelerate.'yPress the hazard warning lights button.
ActiveProtection
General
The Active Protection safety package consists
of systems independent of each other:
'yAttentiveness assistant.'yPreCrash.'yPostCrash.
Attentivenessassistant
Principle The system can detect decreasing attentivej
ness or tiring of the driver on long monotonous
journeys, for example on motorways. In this sitj
uation, it is recommended that you take a
break.
Safetynote WARNING
The system does not release you from
your personal responsibility to assess your physical condition. Increasing inattention or faj
tigue might not be detected, or may not be dej
tected in good time. There is a danger of accij dents. Make sure that the driver is rested and
alert. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conj
ditions.'

'yIn active driving situations, for example frej
quent lane changes.'yIn poor road conditions.'yIn strong crosswinds.
The system is reset approximately 45 minutes
after the vehicle is stopped, for example when
taking a break during a long motorway journey.
PreCrash
Principle The system can detect critical driving situajtions from 30 km/h/20 mph onwards, which
could cause an accident. In these situations, automatically preventative, protective measj
ures are taken to minimise the risk of accident.
Critical driving situations are, for example:
'yFull braking.'ySevere understeering.'ySevere oversteering.
When collision warning or front-end collisionwarning with light braking function is fitted, within the limits of the system, threatened colj
lisions into vehicles in front or stationary vehij
cles are detected.
Safetynote WARNING
The system does not release you from
your personal responsibility. Critical situations cannot be detected reliably or in good timedue to limitations of the system. There is a
danger of accidents. Adapt your driving style to the traffic conditions. Observe the traffic sitjuation and intervene actively if the situation
warrants it.'

DrivingStabilityControlSystemsVehicleequipmentThis chapter describes all standard, national
and special equipment available for the model
series. Therefore equipment which is not inj stalled in your vehicle, for example on account
of the selected optional equipment or the
country specification, may also be described
here. This also applies to safety-relevant funcj
tions and systems. Comply with the relevant
laws and regulations when using the correj
sponding functions and systems.
Anti-lockBrakeSystem,
ABS
ABS prevents the wheels from locking when the brakes are applied.
Steering control is retained even in the event
of full braking, thereby enhancing active road
safety.
ABS is ready to operate each time the engine is started.
Brakeassist When the brake is pressed quickly, this system
automatically applies maximum braking power assistance. With full braking, this keeps thebraking distance as short as possible. It alsomakes full use of the advantages offered by
the Anti-lock Brake System ABS.
The pressure on the brake should be mainj tained for the duration of the full-braking procj

PrincipleThe system reduces engine output and appliesthe brakes on individual wheels, helping, withinthe limits imposed by the laws of physics, to
keep the vehicle safely on course.
General
DSC detects the following unstable driving
conditions, for example:
'yLoss of traction at the rear which can lead to oversteer.'yLoss of grip of the front wheels which can
lead to understeer.Seite 150ControlsDrivingStabilityControlSystems150
