EngineoilVehicleequipment
This chapter describes all standard, national
and special equipment available for the model
series. Therefore equipment which is not inj stalled in your vehicle, for example on account
of the selected optional equipment or the
country specification, may also be described
here. This also applies to safety-relevant funcj
tions and systems. Comply with the relevant
laws and regulations when using the correj
sponding functions and systems.
General
The engine oil consumption depends on the driving style and operating conditions.
Therefore check the engine oil level regularly
each time you fill up with fuel by taking a dej
tailed measurement.
Engine oil consumption can be increased, for
example, in the following situations:'yDynamic driving style.'yRunning in the engine.'yEngine idling.'yUse of engine oil grades categorised as
unsuitable.
Different Check Control messages are shown
on the Control Display, depending on the enj gine oil level.
Safetynotes NOTE
Too little engine oil causes engine damj
age. There is a danger of damage to property. Immediately replenish engine oil.'

Systemlimits
When frequently making short trips or using a
dynamic driving style, it may not be possible to
calculate a measurement. In this case, the
measurement for the last, sufficiently long
journey is displayed.
Detailedmeasurement
Principle The engine oil level is checked when the vehijcle is stationary and is shown on a scale.
If the engine oil level is outside its permissible
operating range, a Check Control message is
shown.
General
During the measurement, the idle speed is
slightly raised.

Addingengineoil General Do not top up engine oil unless a message is
displayed in the instrument cluster. The top-up
amount is specified in the message on the inj strument cluster.
Only replenish with suitable types of engine oil,
see page 225.
Safely park the vehicle and switch off the ignij
tion before replenishing the engine oil.
Ensure not to top up with too much engine oil.
Spilled engine oil can damage carbon parts.
Wipe up spilled engine oil with a lint-free cloth.
Safetynotes WARNING
Service products, for example oils,
greases, coolants and fuels, can contain subj stances that are harmful to health. There is a
danger of injury or even death. Comply with
the notes on the containers. Do not allow servj ice products to come into contact with clothj
ing, skin or eyes. Do not pour service products into other bottles. Keep service products out ofthe reach of children.'

NOTE
Too much engine oil can damage the enj
gine or the catalytic converter. There is a danj
ger of damage to property. Do not top up with
too much engine oil. If there is too much enj gine oil, have the engine oil level corrected by aService Partner of the manufacturer or another
qualified Service Partner or a specialist workj
shop.'

SAE 5W-30, SAE 0W-40 or SAE 5W-40 mayalso be used.
Information on suitable oil specifications and viscosities of engine oils can be obtained froma Service Partner of the manufacturer or anj
other qualified Service Partner or a specialist
workshop.
Oilchange NOTE
Engine oil not replaced in time can lead
to increased engine wear and thus engine damage. There is a danger of damage to propj
erty. Do not exceed the service date indicated in the vehicle.'

laws and regulations when using the correj
sponding functions and systems.
General
The vehicle has two coolant tanks located in
the engine compartment.
To guarantee operational safety of the vehicle,
always check the coolant levels of both coolant tanks.
Not all commercially available additives are
suitable for the vehicle. Information regarding
suitable additives is available from a Service Partner of the manufacturer or another qualij
fied Service Partner or a specialist workshop.
Safetynotes WARNING
If the cooling system is opened when the
engine is hot, coolant can escape and cause scalds. There is a danger of injury. Only open
the cooling system when the engine has
cooled down.'

here. This also applies to safety-relevant funcj

BMWMaintenanceSystem
The Maintenance System indicates what maintenance measures are required, thus projviding support in maintaining the road and opj
erational safety of the vehicle.
Scopes and intervals may vary depending on the national specifications. Replacement work,
spare parts, operating materials and wear maj
terials are calculated separately. Additional inj
formation is available from a Service Partner of
the manufacturer or another qualified Service Partner or a specialist workshop.
ConditionBasedService,
CBS
Principle Sensors and special algorithms monitor theconditions in which the vehicle is used. CBS
uses this information to determine the maintej nance requirement.
The system thus enables the scope of the maintenance work to be adapted to the individjual usage profile.General
Information on service requirements, seepage 109, can be displayed on the Control Disj
play.
Servicedataintheremotecontrol Information about the maintenance requirejment is continuously stored in the remote conj
trol. The Service Partner can read out this data and suggest a maintenance scope for your vej
hicle.
Therefore hand the service advisor the remote
control with which the vehicle was driven most
recently.
Periodsoutofuse Periods when the vehicle is out of use with its
battery disconnected are not taken into acj count.
In such cases, time-dependent maintenance procedures, such as checking brake fluid and, if applicable, changing the engine oil and themicrofilter/activated charcoal filter, should be
updated by a Service Partner of the manufacj
turer or another qualified Service Partner or a
specialist workshop.
Servicehistory Maintenanceandrepairs
Have maintenance and repairs carried out by a
Service Partner of the manufacturer or another
qualified Service Partner or a specialist workj
shop.
Entries The maintenance work carried out is entered in
the maintenance records and the vehicle data.
As with a service booklet, the entries provide
evidence of regular maintenance.Seite 229MaintenanceMobility229

If an entry is made in the electronic service hisj
tory of the vehicle, service-relevant data is
saved both in the vehicle and on the central IT systems of BMW AG, Munich.
The data entered in the electronic service hisj
tory can also be viewed by the new vehicle
owner after a change of vehicle owner. A Servj
ice Partner of the manufacturer or another
qualified Service Partner or a specialist workj
shop can view the data entered in the elecj
tronic service history.
Objection The vehicle owner can contact a Service Partjner of the manufacturer or another qualifiedService Partner or a specialist workshop to objject to any entries being made in the electronicservice history, and to any associated data rejlating to his/her time as the vehicle owner bejing stored in the vehicle or transferred to the
vehicle manufacturer. In that case, no entry is made in the electronic service history of the
vehicle.
Displays The entered maintenance activities can be disjplayed using the service history, see page 110,
